Honcast Dreamhack Summer coverage feedback

So, since it was asked, and Emperor is willing to be receptive, I want to share some thoughts I had while watching the dreamhack summer coverage,...

So, since it was asked, and Emperor is willing to be receptive, I want to share some thoughts I had while watching the dreamhack summer coverage, I've watched about 10 hours of the footage and here's what I think:

First off, the production values compared to previous events was astonishing, especially the team introductions with player information, those segments looked really professional. The replay system was cool, but very overused, and the overall transition felt a tiny bit awkward, the grand finals was too sparing with the replays, while all other games seemed to be filled with them covering every single play, sometimes missing important kongor kills or even fights.
How to improve: Try to really look for downtime, or else, just leave it as is, you cannot miss action, it's confusing and even frustrating, alternatively, you could save some of the big plays for post game, or pauses. Also, the replay loses it's cool effect if it's used for every single fight, really try to use it for important clarification and bigplays, rather than trying to prove your point/right.
The extra segments, like the "Where's WZA?" episodes, are very much welcomed, bringing some fresh variety to the otherwise (and kinda still) boring downtimes. I'd like to see more content of this nature of course.
I still end up closing or muting the stream during downtime, mainly because this new subscriber song request system doesn't really mesh with me, I preferred the VTZ times simply because I started associating good Honcast coverage with them, again, might be irrelevant to the big picture.
Some other minor things you could add or improve:
-Links/text on screen, e.g. when BreakyCPK is mentioning the brackets, you could put some text onscreen saying: "Find DHS brackets/results at www.gosugamers.com/hon"
-Better transition timings
-More event floor footage; I want to feel like I'm there, or at least be feeling more of the dreamhack experience.

Moving on from my thoughts on the production, here comes the important part, the actual Casting.
A bit less positive to be honest, I find the Casts to be very confusing, to the point of frustrating.
Firstly, both casters used to frequently interrupt each other, this was annoying, sure, but now they've switched to talking over each other, aswell as interruption occurring here and there. This is incredibly confusing.
I've got to say that Emperor is the worst offender here, you have to really try to assess the situation every time you want to say something, you can hold onto some thoughts as well, sometimes less is more. Instead of trying to shout and comment on everything, try to refine your casting by explaining some important details crucial to the game but hard for the average hon player to observe.
Breaky, try calm down and word yourself better, I feel that due to Emperor's Comment-hogging you've become very frustrated, and you seem to still be fighting for control, it leads to an awkward pace of cast from your side, causing weird hype-spikes during the cast, if this is controlled properly you'll be delivering a better paced, more exciting cast.

Excuse the jumble, let me know if anything requires clarification.
Much Love
-Infinity.

So, in the end it seems like not sending BreakyCPK & Emperor to Dreamhack had some good things going. The production value was actually decent.

Some interviews were a bit meh. The "Where's Wza" was entertaining enough, Smyger had me crying of laughter despite having seen it so many times before.
This almost made up for not seeing Breaky doing whoknowswhat in between games.
Overall the tournament went through really well.

But something was missing, it kept bothering me all throughout saturday and sunday. It kept feeling like an online tournament, not a LAN.
It wasn't until the DreamArena Finals that it hit me exactly what left me feeling so empty, so unentertained. There were no applauses, no crowd cheering.

In the end it was doable I guess, but for the next "LAN" event, just include a sound source where you hear the audience.
Hearing massive applauds after a big play is what makes all of these games, the finals especially, SO AWESOME.

Considering the face cams etc, and the actual applauds when you filmed the DreamArena, it should've been easy for you too add.
And I believe there's a lot of others out there who completely agree that the audience and the applauds are really important to create the "LAN" feeling for the online viewer.

First off, the s2faux account has crowd sound but horrid camera work so it's useless. Second off, announcers are giving out creep scores and announcing that tempest ult actually went off on that 0-3 start and is now on cooldown when Col wouldn't of known for sure. Pretty sure that tempest ult being on cooldown isn't information you should announce. He got silenced almost immediately after casting it so there was hardly even an animation, you shouldn't reaffirm that it went off for the enemy team

I really enjoyed the coverage from Honcast and Colcast ( watched every game), but the finals feel so awkward.

It's been a really great event.

But why do we have to cater the cast to 200 people in the arena, while 19k people on stream have to watch an awkward cast.

Soundproof booths or something would be dope for the next finals. I don't know how the competitors feel, but casters could be annoying to hear while trying to concentrate.

Other than that, yay 19.5k viewers!

What improved exactly?

Interviews: Great to have some fast postgame interviews, AceJR did great pretty good here imo. (It seems like there is different opinions here. This might leave some room for improvment?)

Instant replay function: Simply worked amazing. Could see all the big plays once more.

The music: Not the same VTZ music all over - subscribers could request music!

The downtime in between games: Top 5 plays of the week, Smyger etc. Just simply worked out great and kept me hanging in when there was 20min/1hour breaks.

The minitrivia: Factquizes about hon and honplayers.

The "Where is WZA": A great fun minigame trying to find WZA at dreamhack.

The teamvideo presentations before the matches, worked as a great hype!

The giveaways: Gold coins, silver coins and DJ rhapsody skins !

Breaky and Emperor you guys are amazing together and make watching competitive HoN incredibly fun! But don't forget about the almighty Beef, who in his own way gives us an amazing time watching HoN. You guys make e-sports look better!

This is getting a bit irritating I think. Its all fair and square that most of the honcast chat contest/trivia/fun is reserved for subscribers now but you have to consider the fact that there are (currently) almost 10k viewers out there who would like to talk and interact. Limiting the chat to just subscribers only means only a handful of viewers who subscribed can actually interact with an event that 10k are watching. I feel its starting to be a tad bit silly (specially when you restrict the chat for up to ~10 minutes).

A few minutes ago even Breaky/Emperor voiced out how its silly that the votes were limited to subscriber only and had to make a strawpoll to get around that.

Food for though, be considerate when you restrict chat specially during big events where Honcast has its peak rate in terms of viewers!

I've been watching honcast for years(amazing to say that.. but it's true) now. and i remember when s2 acquired honcast and I remember thinking there's be some different content coming out. And while the production quality is awesome, I think there could be more content available. Maybe even do some of these things on a secondary channel and not the primary channel.

replay casts (yes it's not as fun as the live main event but still) do a replay cast and subscriber only mode or somethign so people don't spoil?

vent/skype/teamspeak/mumble/whatever casts. I remember eg and msi doing this, and it was pretty awesome.

different competitive cocasters

switch it up have emp play by play and breaky do color

funcasts/manhouses/ opposing team picks for you.

all sorts of options with midwars. the diva vs dogkaiser thing was fun.

different color commentators, dogkaiser/diva/wza, why not even maliken? So much insight into the world of hon could be had now i think.

maybe something like casting a game with only vision from one team?

Obviously for the hontour/major tournaments you want breaky and emp in the studio doing the best quality casts that you realistically can. But for so much of it, it would just take breaky/emp/whoever just sitting at their desk using skype or whatever. And these sorts of things aren't things you'd do everyday but, still. So often there's no vods/livestream up.

One thing has been bothering me a lot these past few days while watching casts and it's with everyone's obsession over yelling out every single skill name during a team fight.

I don't really have a proposal to fix or address this but I was just wondering on what everyone elses take was on this.

Every team fight nowdays I feel like turning on my own music because so many of the casters are keen on saying every single skill name during a team fight whether its during or after the fight. It's like listening to a HoN abilities encyclopedia, there are sooooo many spells used during a team fight and to try to say all of them or most of them is pretty ridiculous. If I was a new player just tuning into the stream for the first time I don't think i'd even be able to pick and choose what skill names are actually being said because they are spoken in such rapid succession.

This isn't a bash post or anything, I was simply curious if anybody else was as bothered by it as I was and if the casters actually view this as something to be considered when it comes to the quality of your cast.

To be fair, its only fairly recent that this started bugging me, not really sure why either.
