The Blackguard is a hero whose skills overwhelming depend on the concept of armor. Trial by Fire will reduce armor for everyone caught in your path. Armored Fury passively increases your armor and regen every time you use a spell or item. Coward's Call is a stackable AoE slow that will quickly stack up your armor and regen. Finally, Smite is a finisher that will stun and deal the difference in your armor and your target's as damage. All three of his active skills are low-cooldown and low-mana, which encourages active play.
The versatility of his skills allow him to be played as a carry, support, and ganker all within the same game.

The Blackguard is a heavily armored knight on an armored horse. He wields a long, wicked lance with one hand, while the other is an oversized armored fist complete with spikes. He should move in a heavy fashion, such that opposing players will want to run when they see him approaching. You should hear the clank of his armor when he moves--when he charges with Trial by Fire, it should be even louder!

Trial by Fire
http://i29.tinypic.com/30cc2fm.jpg

The Blackguard lights his lance aflame with unholy energy and charges forward, burning those who stand before him.

Skill Mechanics: Disarms the Blackguard. For 4 seconds, enemies in front of him will be burned, have reduced armor, and be silenced. At the end of the duration, he will fire a projectile that further deals damage, reduce armor, and silence.

Lance Fireball
(1) 20 DPS, -1 armor, and silence. Fireball deals 60 damage, -1 armor, and silence.
(2) 30 DPS, -2 armor, and silence. Fireball deals 90 damage, -2 armor, and silence.
(3) 40 DPS, -3 armor, and silence. Fireball deals 120 damage, -3 armor, and silence.
(4) 50 DPS, -4 armor, and silence. Fireball deals 150 damage, -4 armor, and silence.

Skill Type: Active, No Target
Damage Type: Magic
Mana Cost: 120
Cooldown: 20/18/16/14
Duration: 4

Lance Range: 300
Lance AoE: 100

Fireball Range: 450
Fireball AoE: 100
Fireball Debuff Duration: 2

Requires you to personally be there to silence. The relatively small AoE makes it difficult to catch multiple heroes, so you're vulnerable to enemy stun. Total damage comes out to 350 if you follow the same enemy for 4 seconds and land the fireball at the end.
[Visual] The Blackguard lowers his lance, which burns with black fire. At the end of the duration, he thrusts it forward, ejecting the fire in the direction he's facing.

Smite

[B]The Blackguard's mighty steed rises on its hind legs before crashing down on its target along with his armored fist.

Skill Mechanics: Charge at maximum movespeed towards your target if you reach within a certain distance. Stuns and deals damage based on the armor difference between you and the target.

Charge Smite

(1) Charge within 300 distance. Deals [100 + 2*armor difference] damage, 1.25 stun.
(2) Charge within 350 distance. Deals [120 + 3*armor difference] damage, 1.50 stun.
(3) Charge within 400 distance. Deals [140 + 4*armor difference] damage, 1.75 stun.
(4) Charge within 450 distance. Deals [160 + 5*armor difference] damage, 2.00 stun.

Skill Type: Active, Single Target
Damage Type: Physical
Mana Cost: 90
Cooldown: 13

[Balance] Assuming a 40 armor difference, you'll do 360 damage. You can realistically obtain around 24 armor from Armored Fury--the rest will have to come from items.
[Visual] The Blackguard charges towards his opponent. Upon reaching him, he rises on his horse before crashing down. The target is hit so hard that he is knocked down.

Coward's Call
http://i26.tinypic.com/2cqh9p0.jpg

The Blackguard lets out a deep howl, demotivating fleeing enemies and delaying their flight from the battlefield.

Skill Mechanics: Enemies with their back turned to you will be slowed. Stacks.

(1) 5% slow per cast. 80 mana cost.
(2) 6% slow per cast. 70 mana cost.
(3) 7% slow per cast. 60 mana cost.
(4) 8% slow per cast. 50 mana cost.

Skill Type: Active, No Target
Cast Time: Instant
AoE: 500
Cooldown: 3
Duration: 8

[Balance] Max of 32% slow in a large AoE. Can be used to buff your HP and armor with Armored Fury, but is useless in a head-on fight.
[Visual] The Blackguard lets out a laugh or roar. Enemies receive the Coward's Call buff and are slowed.

Armored Fury (ULTIMATE)
http://i29.tinypic.com/5wvzfo.jpg

The Blackguard's armor is cursed with an enchantment that hardens to physical assault when he is on the attack.

Skill Mechanics: Passively heals and gives you an armor boost whenever a spell is cast or item is used. Will only trigger on mana-consuming items (no consumables, Steam Boot switches, or Enhanced Marchers). Stacks indefinitely.

(1) 4 HP/s and +1 armor for spells.
(2) 6 HP/s and +2 armor for spells.
(3) 8 HP/s and +3 armor for spells.

Type: Passive
Duration: 5

[Balance] You can realistically squeeze 8 casts of this at maximum (6 from skills, 2 from items)--this will give you 80 HP regen/second, for a total of 400 HP over 5 seconds, which might sound imbalanced, but consider that a single cast of Jereziah's Inner Light instantly heals for 360 HP. However, 8 charges will also give you +24 armor, which is around the same that a Legionnaire using Taunt would get.

[Visual] The Blackguard's armor darkens momentarily as he casts a spell.
