THE HIGHLANDER (Legion STR hero)
Browsing around the net for some hero guides, I stumbled upon this contest. I soon learned that the deadline was today so I thought I should put something together as quickly as possible. Being a Scott, I wanted to represent my people by contributing to the game a fun team-player type hero, while hopefully adding some variety to the game's mechanics. I think that with any new heroes, we should steer away from giving them 2-3 "point and click" nuke/aoe skills, and start thinking about new ways for heroes to interact with each other, and the environment. Environmental interaction, if done right, could really set this game apart from the likes of DOTA,
But I digress. I should add that I do not claim to be a HON pro, nor am I an artist. These facts coupled with the time contraint may leave a little to be desired for this hero's build, SO if you guys like this hero, please post below on how the numbers should look for the base stats/gains and damages/cooldowns/mana costs etc.
Onto what you were looking to find in this post!
The Highlander is Legion hero, and as such, his skills are aligned to the light side. However, he is somewhat of a dark and mysterious hero that can call upon the power of the gods, be they good or evil, to aid him in battle. As such, he needs darker artwork, and a stern, gruff scott's voice. Each of his skills (which involve some sort of battle cry) should have the associated voice acting for a great effect in game. Enemy heroes familiar with his calls will literally be forced into disarray, giving the Highlander the intended effect.
Skills:
Righteous Steed
The Highlander's battle cry echoes between the mountains, calling his
Righteous Steed to aid him in purging the lands of evil.
Summons a mount that grants Highlander greatly increased movement speed
(320/360/400/420)? and increased damage (10/15/25/35%)?
but at the cost of lowering defense (-3/-5/-7/-11)?.
Cooldown: (30/20/15/15s)
Notes:
You can dismount your steed at any time. The movement speed of your mount replaces your own movement speed. So if you had a 390 movement speed with Post Haste, this skill would only give you 420 movement speed. This skill finally allows a character that doesn't need to buy boots to be effective.
Purge
The Highlander's battle cry is so thunderous that it causes nearby enemies to
tremble while empowering nearby allies to overcome any wounds they may
have received in battle.
Dispells debuffs on allies and silences enemies in a (400/450/500/500)? radius for
(0.5/1/1.5/2)? seconds.
Note: Can be used on allies for debuff, or can be used in conjunction with his ultimate, Sword of the Heavens. This skill, if heard by the enemy, will make them want to run as far and as fast as possible if they know whats good for them.
Sacrifice
The Highlander uses some of his own life force to rejuvenate an ally in battle.
If the Highlander is near death, his ultimate sacrifice transfers his entire life
force to the ally.
Activated ability: Donate transfers (5/10/15/20%)? of the Highlander's
current hit points to target ally. If the Highlander has below (60/100/125/200)
hit points, the Highlander is killed, and target ally hero's hit points are fully restored.
Cooldown: 20s? perhaps this should be variable?)
Notes: This skill will make playing this char very different, as it will be a very complex choice as to whether making the sacrifice is worth the death. You can imagine all the different situations to use/not use this skill. If you are about to die FOR SURE, and you are with an ally, sacrifice yourself and hope they get the kill, and the enemy gets denied a kill. If you are alone and get ganked, this skill won't help you deny yourself.
Sword of the Heavens
The Highlander calls up the skies, channeling the power of the heavens into
his sword. He then plunges his sword into the ground, dealing massive
amounts of damage to all enemies foolish enough to face him in battle.
Channeling Time: (3/2/1s)
Radiates a single bolt of lightening through the ground towards each enemy in
a 800? radius around the Highlander. Deals (350/550/700)
magic damage to each target.
Notes: You may think at first that this skill has too large of a radius for the high damage it deals. If you drop this in the middle of 5 enemies, for example, many of them will be at half health. The problem is the channeling time. He has to call to the heavens and stay in one place for 3/2/1 seconds before the damage is dealt, giving many heroes a chance to run. However, this would make a good combo with aoe stuns, or tempest for example.
Simple analysis of playstyle:
Clearly, there are many ways to play this hero, as well as many hero-hero combinations that would work very well with him. But the most obvious is perhaps the following: He is likely going to be a team fight initiator. Hop on your steed, run into the fray (hopefully not taking too many hits along the way), dismount so you get your armor back, call your Purge skill and hope to catch anyone with a disable in it, and then pop your ulti, dealing massive damage. At this point, the rest of your team should be on the enemy, mopping up. If, by chance, things do not go well (you get silenced, you take massive damage, your team leaves you high and dry, etc) you can use sacrifice to deny yourself and heal an ally, and maybe that will change the course of the battle. Hopefully S2 will make him a hero so we can find out!
Thats about it! So if you have any comments/suggestions, please post them.
And for the artistically inclined, maybe you can make some skill icons, too :)
