This mod displays a range circle around the hero displaying the maximum range that any selected item may be used.

READ: The range indicators prevent items from activating in practice mode, they DO work correctly ingame though.

for some reason in practice when using this mod u cant see malikens sword throw or dark lady's 3rd ability doesnt work is there a reason for this? haven't tested in an actual game mod is pro tho

has anyone tried this in non-practice mode? I can see the target circles for all of the abilities, but none of the abilities with circles actually work (abilities without the new circles work fine)

For some reason the range circles break the skills in practice mode, they do work in a real game however. The practice mode thing has always been the case ever since the initial devourer hook only version. Added some pictures.

Don't know why, but I couldn't use Kuldras/Portal Key/Stormspirit when I had this enabled. The circles were shown, but I couldn't activate them.

Maybe it doesn't work with the Click Click Item?

EDIT: My bad, practice mode.

Edit: Yes, this does remove the portal key. Also I keep disconnecting ("unread bits").

Tested it, the removal of portal key only happens if also the ability range indicator mod is activated...

Maybe cause of the wrong mod version? ;)
The thread title calls it version 0.3 but honmod manager says 0.1...

idk why not just use the other mod, as far as i know it has always worked with all items AND skills, including sheep portal etc.etc. not just skills so idk wat u ppl are smoking

The support for items has been removed in the "other" mod (know as ability range indicator), i think because there is no need for two similar mods...

Anyone got "bad bits error" from this? Not sure what causing it but Im 90% sure its this mod since I havent had that problem before I started using this one :/

That depends where you put them there's no set range, so I imagine that would be harder to code?

I can buy it and click on it but when I click somewhere so warp there my hero just doesnt warp. Any suggestions? =/

If you mean in practice, it is known. In game it should work properly. However, in my case, ingame there is no portal key in the shop. I just can't buy it...

It was fixed already. I use the mod for 10 games now.
Just autoupdate it from the modmanager.

Not really. No Wallhack and you dont know how the enemy used his skillpoints.
Actually i think both Ability Range Indicators and this should be implemented...its pretty handy to know the range of your spells so that you can use blink or stun with maximum precision.

Thread-related: Does the Portal Key work now? Any chance for an auto-update?

This totally ruins the game's purpose IMO.
Knowing your items/skills range with a mod rather than experience is just lame, as will keep new/bad players from getting better. They'll always be mod-dependent, and probably won't be able to play without them, even though they might say it helps them.

This kinda mod ruins this game :/

Eh, you already know the ranges, now you can see them. Big deal. I thought seeing ranges was already a console feature somewhere that I was too lazy to dig for. You don't want the competition? Is it somehow an unfair advantage? So you know exactly where your blink will end up if your char is off screen. So what?

The game is fine. You just don't want it to be easier to get owned by a new guy with a portal key and a rangefinder, Boohoo.

If you're a better player, you'll still win.

In my humble opinion its quite the opposite. I played 3 corridors and after that Dota for a long time and the abilityrange mod still helps me. I don't use this mod due to the portal key bug.
But this is the tricky part. Either you allow all mods (including this) giving unfair advantages over the ppl who don't use it or you forbid em all and force a clean vanilla play.
See what the release brings :).

I don't see what all the QQing is about. I don't see an unfair advantage to using this mod. Hell, if I'm up against someone in a line with this mod I'd be happy: They'd have giant red circles distracting the **** out of them all game.

Range indicators don't break the game imo, if you don't have this mod, and you try to use a skill on an opponent, and your hero walks towards where you clicked rather than using the skill, then you know your out of range. End of story.

adn it will be then compatible.

both item range indicators and ability range indicators are broken in practice mode, this has been mentioned before...

One of those mods which are definitely nice but on the very edge of what is considered good sportmanship. Mods that display stuff like HP regen are not affecting gameplay and can be looked up otherwise, but this kind of stuff (along with last hit assist and tower range indicater and of course the ability range indicater) have a big impact on a player's gameplay by providing extra information otherwise impossible to obtain.

No disrespect to you Mattie42, awesome job on actually implementing this functionality, but I don't think this should be allowed in regular play. Luckily, I saw an S2 Dev's post in which he also pointed out some mods should clearly be banned (he named last hit assist specifically).

Anyway, again nice work but please think about some useful mods which are not shady. Though yours is not even close to last hit assist I guess (and League of Legends -- you know, that sloooow (gameplay wise) and bad looking dota variant -- has actually implemented ability range indicator if I recall correctly haha).

No one cares. If you have a problem with the mod, take it up with S2. This is not the place to preach about sportsmanship and such.

would either of you be able to add an enable/disable option in mod options framework for this mod so that when creating practice mode games i do not need to close Hon, disable it via modman, then reopen HoN (and the reverse when playing normal games again)

A completely new player can download this mod and instantly have a skill which would otherwise take hundreds of games to master. I use this mod simply because it exists and isn't banned - it gives me a big advantage.

..which is an unfair advantage. Like a new type of tennis racquet that lets you play a federer-esque game when you're a beginner. Less intelligent people such as yourself would scream "ALLOW IT! IT JUST SHORTENS THE LEARNING CURVE!" but others would like a more fair game. I will continue using this mod. :behe:
