View Full Version : Names and Titles for all Heroes

I'm suggesting that each hero be given a Name as well as a Title. Right now it seems that heroes tend to have one or the other (with the Title being the most common).

This may seem like a minor cosmetic change to some, but for some of us, it makes a huge difference in not only immersion, but in the overall perceived polish of HoN. Additionally, Title names tend to be quite a mouthful to say in the heat of battle, or even when trying to talk about a hero in casual. Phrases like "Pollywog Priest" can become lengthy to write or speak, in when one needs to call out a target in the heat of battle, it's just downright akward. Providing a first name AND title for each of the heroes helps to alleviate all of this, as well as make each one more unique and flavorful.

Below I've provided a tentative list of some name/title suggestions for various heroes - the community is more than welcome to provide their own as well; I'll do my best to keep this post updated!

I like the idea of homogenizing whether it be just names, just titles, or both.

As long as the names don't sound stupid, I don't care if the characters have names, or names and tittles. So far I think the names you came up with are good though :P. I just started a couple of days ago, but in Dota, the abbreviation depends on the hero. Balanar the Nightstalker is typically abbreviated to "ns", and Darkterror the Voidwalker is abbreviated to "void". Sometimes people go by color and just memorize what hero is what color. I'm sure really short abbreviations for each hero will come through in time. Your idea will also make it easier for 2 letter abbreviations.

I don't really mind, calling them one name only is good enough for me, cause it is simpler, but this can work too. I'm up for anything.

A small note towards this is most heroes in DotA have a name and a title, and at least one of them has a single-sylable pronouncable short name or at the very least an acronym. I think this is missing for a few heroes in HoN at the moment and makes calling miss a little annoying at times.

Or maybe we are all just too used to DotA? :)

I like this idea!

I agree with some sort of consistency but I don't feel like having both a title and a name is neccessary. That would just lead to 1 random word (name) more to learn for newbies in order to understand what everybody else is talking about.
Naming all heroes by a title/class would be best IMO.

Not every hero should have a title, but every hero damn well should have a name. At least in my opinion.

I say no to this. It always bothered me in DotA when I was used to Razor, and everyone refereed to me by lightning revenant. One name is enough... it prevent confusion to have 100 heroes with 2 names.
