View Full Version : Where to find comprehensive replays of tournaments?

Okay my first thread apparently got deleted right away since I posted it into a wrong section.. I will try again and save the text this time. :)
So I would really like to watch replays of the standard tournaments in a systematic way. However I have yet to find a source where I can access all the replays of a given tournament.
I mean match IDs would already be enough, for we could download the replays ingame.
Look for example at this:
http://www.gamereplays.org/heroesofnewerth/portals.php?show=news&news_id=592677
It is a nice screenshot, but no match IDs are included. If I click on the "See all replays from this tournament (http://www.gamereplays.org/heroesofnewerth/replays.php?game=58&show=event&id=143)" link on the bottom, I will get an unsorted list of *some* replays, but not all of them. Especially the important ones are missing.
Am I just stupid? Have you guys found a way around this issue? Or does no one besides me care?

go to replays ( hon page ), check for a player ( e.g. chu` ) and then search his matches until you found the tournament match ( compare it to the line-ups / players he was against ).

I understand this is one way to do it... but a rather time-intensive one. :)
Apparently, there's no better way as of now.
Maybe some time in the future, gamereplays will have all the replays of at least their own GR tournaments. :)
For the time being, I found out people will often give match IDs in the gamereplays forum thread for any given tournament. Beware of spoilers though, as they also write the match's winner right next to the ID.
f.e. here:
http://www.gamereplays.org/community/index.php?showtopic=590430&st=0
All these solutions are far from ideal though..

Hi psyclog
Gamereplays has been working on making replays available by event, here's the link
http://www.gamereplays.org/heroesofnewerth/replays.php?game=58&show=events
Basically, you'll click the tab that says replays, and there is another tab inside of that, it says "Events", when we upload the tournament replays we can add an event to it, you can also.
Here's a link to that newspost if your interested

Thanks Sn00py2gos (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/member.php?u=604414), I have discovered the tag system already.
Turns out there simply aren't many replays of GR VI on your site, for some reason.
The system is good enough, since by checking both the tournament roster:
http://www.gamereplays.org/heroesofnewerth/portals.php?show=news&news_id=595684
and the appropriate replay list:
http://www.gamereplays.org/heroesofnewerth/replays.php?game=58&show=event&id=154
you can eventually find most of the replays of ordinary tournaments (not GR VI though).
It's not ideal though. I understand I can't except GR themselves to publish mere replay IDs in an easy-to-copy way, as they probably want us to download the files from their servers.
The replay lists of any given tournament on GR are still unsorted though, the replay names follow no apparent rule and when checking the tournament roster, you will immediately see who has won the tournament. Only sites like honcast have somewhat addressed this issue.

I see 18 replays from Gr VI The system for organizing replays is still generally new, and will improve for future tournaments.
When you hover over a matchID you can just left click and it should auto-copy the matchID

Edit:**Ah I see what your saying. You want just a post with matchID's? No team names?

And how is that going to help him find replays from tournaments?

The reason we don't have too many replays from the VI tournament, is because they are not available on the S2 servers so they cannot be submitted. As you can see on the Events tab (http://www.gamereplays.org/heroesofnewerth/replays.php?game=58&show=events), we have all the replays from our VII tournament, since S2 fixed the server issue and they all have the same name pattern. We will also be including the link to the replays from a particular event, when we post the results newspost on our HonReplays.org (http://www.honreplays.org/) portal. I hope this will help you find tournament replays much easier.

How did honcast address this issue, when they don't have a list of replays from events, they only make gamecasts from VoDs of tournaments. What exactly did you have on your mind? You don't want to know who the winner is or what?

This is one of many issues where GR can improve their marketing, not necessary their casts.
If you want people to watch your commentaries, make them worth watching, don't make it difficult to find the games otherwise.
For example, you could spend 15 minutes and just map that image so that clicking on various matchups is a hyperlink to HoN's replay database with MatchID. Or you could spend another 15 minutes and get those replays on your site to begin with.

If I understood the topic starter correctly this has nothing to do with commentaries, but how to find a list of replays from tournaments and other events.

Mapping that image with links is not as easy as you think, you cannot just select a part of an image and make it a link. Regarding replay submitting on our site they were all submitted from our VII tourney (http://www.gamereplays.org/heroesofnewerth/replays.php?game=58&show=event&id=154), as I mentioned in my previous post. The only reason they were not submitted from our previous tourneys is because they were not available on the S2 servers.
We are also working on our new tourney system which will have everything automated, you will have dynamically generated brackets, on which you will be able to click on any match and see the match details as well as download the replay.

Correct. But it seems to me that you are deliberately making it hard to find the Match ID's for various games of the tournament. If that's not the case, my mistake.

Um. Yes you can:

Awesome, I love hearing about new features and that sounds like it could be very useful. In the meantime, making something functional and useful takes about a half hour per tournament.

Have you even visited one of the links I gave you? This link (http://www.gamereplays.org/heroesofnewerth/replays.php?game=58&show=event&id=154) will lead you to the list of all replays from our last tournament in where you can easily copy a match ID by just clicking on one button and those replays were available during about 5 minutes from the tourney has finished. If you didn't notice how to get a match ID, I will use Snoopy's picture:

That is very easy to do in HTML, but it is impossible to do in a forum like environment.

My mistake then, I assumed that since the replays were so unordered there was just a smattering of them, not the entirety of the tournament which it seems to be.
In any case, it'd be nice to have an easy way to access them in a more neat fashion. I find it really hard to believe that you can't create an HTML page on a website. =o

It's not as easy as you may think, but I'll see if I can sort something out in the future.

If you are looking for competitive REPLAYS to download and watch yourself with control of the camera, then Gamereplays right now is the place for that, they have done a very good job of making a nice section for replays and even I have used it time and time again to find some. Although honcast has a replay section where whenever we cast a game it will upload that replay, our interface for it is bleh (that is in the works though!).
But if you are actually looking for VOD's of HoN games where you can just sit and listen to commentary, then HONCAST has that and we consider ourselves pretty good at it! Gamereplays does have VOD's as well though that you can check out.

sorry for kinda tuning out on the discussion;
I think Decency understands my needs, and probably feels the same way.
Without knowing anything about feasability, basically what I would love to see is something like this screenshot below, but with click-to-copy match IDs for each match.
It doesn't have to be a picture or anything, just a basic representation of the tournament as opposed to the unsorted list of replays we currently see on the GR site.
When I mentioned honcast in my posting, I was referring to them publishing 3 replay games for each "best of 3" series, even if one clan advanced after 2 straight wins. If you clicked on the 3rd link, it would only say "there was no game 3".
This doesn't spoil anything for you until you have finished watching the 2nd game.

We do in fact have VOD's of pretty much every GR tournament ever.

Also, if you're looking specifically for GameReplays Tournament stuff on honcast the search function is easy.
http://hon.esportmedia.com/search/?query=gamereplays&type=video
That pulls up all content
Also, stickied in the shoutcasting section is the gamereplays vods in chronological order, and honcast vods by event.
Hope that helps!
