View Full Version : Disconnect Suggestion (For leavers)

Everyone hates it.. the people playing with the person who disconnects.. and the people playing against them. It's just annoying.
I know there is already a system in place to discourage disconnects, but it's still very common.
I recently had an idea come to me after I hard locked (sorry didn't save crash log), but after restarting the game I was allowed to reconnect. Obviously there is some system in place that ties our login/playerID to the matches. Could it be expanded beyond reconnection allowance to include "blocking" leavers from joining another match until their match they left concludes?
I don't know the downfalls of this proposal, but perhaps it would persuade people even more to not disconnect if they knew they would be unable to jump into another match until that one finished.

That's because the system in place isn't "activated" yet. We currently have the leaver threshold set very high (I think 100%) and as such, no one bothers to host leaver protected games.
We'll be wiping stats and setting the threshold to something more realistic soon.

Ok.. so we know the disconnect threshold hasn't been set to its correct level yet. That will definitely solve some problems. Would it be out of the question to get an option to return to lobby or restart match if someone discons in the first 5 mins though?
I've had 3 matches where someone disconnects without ever leaving the pool, and it just doesn't seem fair that I have to wade through a horribly uneven game to save my own disconnect percentage.

is the disconnect level chosen by u at s2, or will it be a option server side so each host can say well only join if you have a 2% disconnect or lower ect?

what thresholds are you guys discussing?

Liquidsword. The disconnect % level. Look at Fielding's post. Currently the threshold set for disconnect % for leavers is very high. We were discussing whenever it does get set to its final value, whether or not other implementations could come with it.
Ie my idea of allowing a small window at game start to allow for a restart without killing discon % for those who lose a team mate in the pool (think asshat who leaves before creeps spawn)
Or.. Ulquiorra's idea of letting the game host actually set the threshold themself (instead of just a check box that assumes default threshold).

What if after the original player timed out, anyone could join in their place and play with their hero with NO stats recorded?
hmm... on second thought that could lead to abuse. You could just intentionally feed the other team getting them exp and gold :(.

You really need to come up with something better than leave percentage. There are plenty of times when some people, sometimes the entire team, just wants to leave rather than keep getting spawnraped or playing a game where they're getting butchered and are not having fun. This is different from people who leave just to be jerks to people they don't like, as sometimes happens in DotA.

is it possible to determine if a player chose to disconnect or that player just dc'd cuz of a crash? he may not be able to cause the crash on purpose on the other hand..
and you could make you dont get a dc if your team lost 2 or 3 ppl cuz of early leavers.

And just how exactly would this be done? I think the concede option will work just fine. If the whole team is getting butchered then they will concede. If a lone person is getting butchered they deserve the leave %.

Concede would be a great idea, if you join a match where all you do is get ganked by pros who want to show how good they are and want to stop yourself from having your stats and your morale obliterated, concede is a great idea. but should only be allowed after a certain amount of time :)

What if leaving in something like 5v3 doesn't count towards your 'lefts'?

My suggestion: Allow hosts to check a box that allows people to join midgame, like they do in Civ4 online games. When a player's disconnect time runs out his stats are written for the game he left (games that you leave should always count as a loss) and the hero is set neutral, if the box is checked someone can join the game and pick up from where the last person left off.
I think it should be strictly optional but it would be a decent remedy to the situation.
