The Story

Once a councilor to the Moon Queen, Pestilence betrayed his people -- for as a male, he could never have come to rule them himself. With his own powers augmented by the Hellbourne, he is as strong as the queen he served in the past. But his arts are unholy: mindless, ravenous insects he calls forth, cruel and violent skills he deploys.

Hero Summary
Pestilence is the pinnacle of a strength carry. His strong physical damage amp along with his 2.5 second aoe stun, speed boost and passive bash makes him one of the most terrifying heroes in the game. On top of that, he is a heavy anti-invisibility hero, and plays a secondary roll as an aggressive initiator.

Skill Analysis

Flight
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/heroes/95/ability1_128.jpg

Applies flight to self for 25 seconds.

Up, up, and away!

Level 1 - +10% movement speed. +10% damage taken.
Level 2 - +20% movement speed. +10% damage taken.
Level 3 - +30% movement speed. +10% damage taken.
Level 4 - +40% movement speed. +10% damage taken.

Cooldown: 45 Seconds

Pestilence's main chasing/escape mechanism. Use this ability whenever you need to lead an enemy for a second stun, catch up to him, or just juke/escape. Be careful not use this against a heavy aoe team in a team fight, as +10% damage is a lot! You'll die much faster, so use this skill properly.

Impale
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/heroes/95/ability2_128.jpg

Stuns targets in radius for x second(s), damages them for y Physical damage, and slows their movement speed by 20% for an additional two seconds after the stun.

There's more below the surface then you know!

Level 1 - Stuns for 1 second, deals 50 physical damage, and slows for 20% movement speed after the stun is over.
Level 2 - Stuns for 1.5 second, deals 100 physical damage, and slows for 20% movement speed after the stun is over.
Level 3 - Stuns for 2 second, deals 150 physical damage, and slows for 20% movement speed after the stun is over.
Level 4 - Stuns for 2.5 second, deals 200 physical damage, and slows for 20% movement speed after the stun is over.

Cooldown: 8 Seconds.

Pestilence's backbone. There are a lot of things you need to know about his stun before you truly become a master of the pestilence.

1: The radius is way larger then some newer people think. A lot of people underestimate his stun. This picture explains. Right click and "view image" if it's too hard to see the red circle.

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k257/Shigadoom/General/pestaoe-1.jpg?t=1269136388

Pestilence's stun area of effect (aoe) is actually quite large. Note also, that the creep affected by swarm took extra damage. This is because Pestilence's stun is physical damage, so remember when chasing someone, if you have time try to swarm them before you stun for extra damage. BUT NOTE: That the stun itself is magical! A lot of players seem to think that because the skill itself says physical that the stun should go through magic immunity, but it's improperly mentioned. This means that magic immune players will not get stunned, but they will still take damage!! Use this to your advantage, and save your stun until after they are no longer immune or use it to kill someone trying to escape!

2: Your enemy is slowed after stunned, so at level 4 they are disabled for pretty much 4.5 seconds. That's half your stuns cool down! If you lead them long enough you can get another stun off and possibly kill them. Always remember to lead your enemies!

3: Your stun can be used to cut off enemies and allow you to escape. if you're being pursued, try to gain an uphill advantage. Once they come into range, stun them and quickly use flight to get away. The only way this can backfire is if they have vision, so be wary! Only do this if you have to! Also note that your stun can also save the lives of your team mates, so always try to be around one if you're in an enemy forest or trying to gank!

Thus ends my wall of text. Use impale right, and you will surely became a master of the pestilence.

TL;DR: Your stun aoe is very large. Lead your enemies. Use your stun defensively and to get away if needed.

Gore
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/heroes/95/ability3_128.jpg

On attack x chance to deal y bonus Magic damage to target and stun for 1 second.
This ability contains Bashing properties. Items and abilities with Bashing properties contain a shared cooldown time.

Bring raid if you want to live!

Level 1 - 10% to deal 40 bonus magic damage and stun for 1 second.
Level 2 - 15% to deal 50 bonus magic damage and stun for 1 second.
Level 3 - 20% to deal 60 bonus magic damage and stun for 1 second.
Level 4 - 25% to deal 70 bonus magic damage and stun for 1 second.

Cooldown: 2.0 Seconds (Basically you can stun your opponent every two seconds).

Not a lot needs to be said about this skill; basically it's the opposite of Impale. Your stun from gore is physical and will go through magic immunity. Other then that, it's your passive auto attack ability which makes you viable as a carry.

(Ultimate) Swarm
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/heroes/95/ability4_128.jpg

Applies Swarm to target for 30 seconds.

They won't bite!

Level 1 - -5 Armor to target and applies Revealed. (Targets that are revealed are visible to your allies and yourself when they go invisible, or out of your line of sight. As long as the swarm is on them, you can see where they are.
Level 2 - -10 Armor to target and applies Revealed.
Level 3 - -15 Armor to target and applies Revealed.

Your second backbone. This ultimate is what makes Pestilence so strong. This ability will reveal anyone you use it on, and make them extremely vulnerable to auto attacks and physical damage spells. When playing Pestilence it is always important to remain vigilante and aware of the things and enemies on your screen. If you're laning VS a Scout or Night Hound, always use your swarm on them before you plan to chase. Remember you have 30 seconds before it wears off, so reapply it before they escape!

Cooldown: 5.0 seconds.

Skill Build

1: Impale
2: Flight
3: Impale
4: Flight
5: Impale
6: Swarm OR flight.
7: Impale
8: Flight OR swarm.
9: Flight OR swarm.
10: Gore
11: Swarm
12-14: Gore
15: Stats
16: Swarm
17-25: Stats

Explanation: This is my personal build on pestilence almost every time. You will in turn learn to exchange a level of impale for flight, or getting one level into gore for that small percent chance to stun, or getting flight up before you get your ultimate. Get swarm at level 6 if there is an invisible hero in the game or if you are roaming/ganking a lot, which the shouldn't. Adapting your skill builds is what makes you a better player. This is just my general build. Gore should almost always be maxed last unless in extreme conditions where you are never needed to chase, or never get ganked.

Items!

Starting Items

http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_LoggersHatchet.jpg http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_RunesOfTheBlight.jpg http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_MinorTotem.jpg

Depending on your lane partner, you either buy 1 or 2 sets of runes. If you have a good babysitter, just buy 1 set of 3. If you're laned with a crappy partner, buy x2. Spend the rest of your gold on Minor totems. You buy a hatchet because you will need to be getting as many last hits as possible, as you are a carry you need items to be strong.

Your Core

http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_Steamboots.jpg http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_PortalKey.jpg http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_Immunity.jpg http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_Insanitarius.jpg

Let's pretend those steam boots are of the strength (red) variety. ^_^

Your core are the items you get no matter what, and usually the first items you get and consists of these items mainly. That being said, Portal key should be picked up on Pestilence First even if you are not going to be initiating; assuming you had good farm early game. Basically how it works is, If you got great farm early game you buy your portal key first; if it wasn't so great and you're dying too quickly, buy your shrunken head first. The reasoning behind these items is basically, magic immunity grants Pestilence god-status. No one can stop him from leading into your team and stunning you all, letting his team come in and wreak havoc on you while you can't move. Portal key just helps him get in there faster and avoid taking extra damage from flight. Shrunken head also grants a nice buff to his strength and damage pools. Insanitarius is an important pickup. Great damage and strength buff, plus a 475 hp heal if you are low and are being chased. Always use this after you swarm and stun your opponent for maximum damage. Note Insanitarius is not often used in competitive games as Pestilence is usually used to initiate.

Situational

http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_PowerSupply.jpg

Usually only get this if you're playing vs. a nuke/spell heavy team. This can sometimes save your life vs. heavy nukers and spell spammers like Armadon and Slither.

Luxury

http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_Pierce.jpg http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_BehemothsHeart.jpg http://honwiki.net/w/images/thumb/a/aa/Riftshardsitem.gif/128px-Riftshardsitem.gif

Buy these items if you've already gotten your core and you're swimming in gold. Shield breaker stacks with your ultimate, and will make you hit even harder. Behemoths heart is a great item that makes you even harder to kill. Rift shards pretty much gives you super omg wtf omega mecha death Jesus 2000 status. Combine your ultimate, Shieldbreaker debuff, and a crit from Riftshards, it's a nigh insta-gib. Look that up if you don't know what it is.

Strategy

coming soon.
