The HoNtraband Game


Two teams, six players each, twelve players total.
Teams will be randomized.
Players pick a hero during registration to represent yourself.

There will be 3 matches. Each match consists of 6 rounds, for a total of 18 rounds.

Teams start with 1000 gold in the bank.

Each round, a player from one team will be designated "smuggler," and a player from the other team will be designated "inspector."

The smuggler can choose to smuggle anywhere from zero to 500 gold, by PMing me. I will then announce that the smuggler has decided on his amount. This gold is NOT coming out of either teams' banks.

The designated inspector will then attempt to guess how much gold the smuggler is trying to steal.

If he believes the smuggler is trying to smuggle, he can call "doubt X" where X is a number between 1 and 500.
If he believes the smuggler is not smuggling, he can call "pass."



Possibilities and outcomes



1. Inspector Doubts, Smuggler smuggles more than zero gold:
If Doubt > Smuggle, Inspector wins the Smuggle.
If Doubt < Smuggle, Smuggler wins the Smuggle and half the Doubt.

2. Inspector Doubts, Smuggler smuggles zero gold:
Smuggler wins half the Doubt, Inspector loses half the Doubt.

3. Inspector Passes:
Smuggler wins the Smuggle.

Bullseye Rule



If the inspector guesses...

between +10 and -10 of the smuggler's amount, inspector's team gets a bonus of 200 gold.
between +20 and -20 of the smuggler's amount, the inspector's team gets a bonus of 100 gold.

However, if the inspector's guess is less than the smuggler's amount yet within the bullseye range, the smuggler will still win the gold as well as the indemnity, but the inspector will receive the bullseye bonus.At the end of 10, 20, and 30 rounds, teams will decide how to use their gold to equip their hero. All item prices will be official HoN item prices. Once teams have decided on their gear, there will be an actual duel between two players. Teams may choose which player/hero to represent them. The hero will have the items that the teams have purchased. Heroes will be level 6 in the first duel, level 12 in the second, and level 18 in the third.

At the end of 3 matches, the team with more duel victories wins.

Edit: And Honi-ify I see now, after reading the whole post. The whole dueling-thing doesn't seem as fun as the two previous games, but I think I'll follow this one for a bit anyways!

About why the smuggler shouldn't always smuggle 500g, I think SpasticMouse meant to have a slash between > and =. If the smuggler smuggles 500g and the inspector guesses 500g, the inspector will take it all home.

Edit: Whoopsie, didn't read carefully enough. I'll just do this then. SpasticMouse is getting his game ideas from a manga which is really thought out, so he will most likely revise it soon, it's probably just something he missed

Hmm I think you should add something with the inspector gaining some gold if he correctly guesses that the smuggler didn't smuggle any gold. Without this the smuggler has a no-loss situation when he decides not to smuggle any gold, he can only win or tie.

I'm in but I still think that the Inspector is highly favored. Just guess 500 no matter what. You either have 0 gold, or gain all the gold that the person smuggled. If you have 0 gold they also have 0 gold for smuggling nothing.

I have...a little criticism on this game.

Say if i wanted to steal 100 gold... and i was speculating that there was going to be a theft...i will just say 500 and get the gold. Therefore..


If theif steals, inspector claiming 500 gold="you stole, I am taking your X amount."

however this reminds me of street fighter that you must mix up your game, (by not stealing all the time but in uneven tempos), however i don't see any reason to steal anything within 1-499 range when an inspector can just claim 500 every time they think a steal is happening.

It could be more balanced IF we had limited resources, meaning that you can create gold out of thin air, but stealing eachothers.

That's a good idea, so how about...

If the inspector guesses...

I'm thinking about how the duels would work.

Originally I planned to have each team pick a hero from their team and choose their abilities and stuff for first 6 levels, but then some heroes would be extremely imba in a 1v1 situation with no creeps around (like MQ). Any ideas would be appreciated.

First duel each player will be lvl 6 (since it's round 6)

The gold they start with is irrelevant, because they can only purchase the items that the team has bought with their gold (decided on forums, will notify after next round).

There will be a time limit (let's say, 300 seconds). Once that is over, the hero with the greater HP pool % is the victor.

Only one of each unstackable item can be equipped.

All of this is temporary.

As much as i like this game, there really should be some sort of victory for the inspector if they correctly pass when the smuggler is smuggling nothing. that shouldn't be a neutral victory. Smuggling 0 gold is basically autowin for smuggler :(

lol i completely agree with you miley even though your butthurt. i think the premise is that smuggling is basically the opportunity to get some rly good gold up for your team, so if you just go 0 gold all the time youll never get anything. but yeah, there should be a reward for passing when the smuggler smuggles nothing.

maybe 200 gold? like how if the inspector guesses within 10 of the smugglers amount, they get 200 gold extra. just a thought. it isnt much, but it does add more risk to just going nothing for the smuggler and risking nothing.

actually yeah, smuggling 500 is bad, if the inspector guessing 500 not only will they get the usual benefits they also get an extra 200 gold for being within 10 gold of your amount. so smuggling 500 is bad. also, smuggling 0 doesnt get you anywhere if the inspector passes.

yeh, i suggested to spastic to make it so that if u guessed close to what was being smuggled you should get bonus gold.

so he made it that if u guess within +/- 10 of the smuggler you get 200 bonus gold
if u guess within +/- 20 you get 100 bonus gold

Actually I've decided that when the inspector's doubt is lower than the smuggler's smuggle, the smuggler will receive the indemnity bonus, but the inspector will NOT be taxed.

However if the smuggler smuggles zero and the inspector doubts, the inspector WILL be taxed.

Will make a recap of these rules.

Let's make this interesting.

The total gold of each team is first divided into six equal portions.
For example, Hellbourne's 2456 gold will be divided into 409.

Each player on the Hellbourne team is in charge of their share of the gold.
They will PM me what they wish to use their 409 gold on.

Rules on buying:

1. You may only purchase as many items as one item slot can hold.
This means you can buy, for example, 99 mana potions, but can only buy one Circlet.

2. For items that require a recipe,
you may buy all items and the recipe ONLY IF you have enough gold for the entire item.

Players have 48 hours from now to PM me what they wish to do with their gold.
Obviously teams can talk amongst themselves about how to spend if they like.
The duel starts 48 hours from now, all gold unspent before then will be unused.

Items from duel 1 carry over to duel 2, but heroes may only carry up to 6 items maximum.
You may discard items for later duels at any time.

Legion, you each have 338 gold to spend.
Hellbourne, you each have 409 gold to spend.

PM me when you have decided.
