View Full Version : [Suggestion] Random by attribute

This was implemented in DotA 6.60 and I think it's a reasonable, simple, and useful addition to the game. In DotA you can type -random to pick a random hero, which is already implemented in HoN via the random hero button. But in DotA you can also type "-random xxx" where xxx is str, agi, or int and it will guarantee you a hero with this stat as its primary attribute. You gain 100 less gold randoming this way compared to normal random, but it gives you somewhat more of an idea of what you will be getting (if your team needs a tank you can random str and start with an extra 150 gold).

This would probably only apply to normal (AP) mode, and would be quite simple to add considering the hero selection screen is already organized by primary attribute. Simply put a random button next to each of the 3 stats.

Thoughts?

Yeah, this would be great. Once 3 people on my team randomed and we all got agi carries... in addition to the 2 glass cannons that were already picked by the people who didn't random. Needless to say, it would have been nice if we'd randomed str or int.

Never knew that, but I actually like this idea, one big dice for comeplete random, three smaller dices representing each attribute for str/agi/int randoming.

This could be achived by having a random button along side of each of the attribute type lables as well as the one at the top for "random anything"

http://honwiki.net/wiki/Heroes

If you use that page as a guide where it says agilty/strength/intelligence you could put little random-dice icons to random into those specifics?

Nice idea :)

I think this would be a nice feature to have. I personally don't really like to play the carry hero, but I like almost all support heroes.

In terms of an AR game, I would say that that type would stay the same (ALL random), but a new type could be implemented, something like CR (Choose [attribute] Random) where you get to choose what you want to play. This might be similar to SD.

Another mode I wouldn't mind seeing would be an Attribute Draft - you get three heroes to pick out of what ever attribute you picked or something to that effect. The idea of the attribute random made me think this might be interesting.

I also support this.

This kind of thing can be really fun when everyone on a team runs with this, and does one attribute. I also like it as a means of trying to balance a team while still doing random. I've been in that situation a few times where I just couldn't decide what hero in a pick and end up randoming after the time runs out.

I think so too :)

Although looking at that page it might be better to put the dice in the space between the legion and hellbourne hero's as opposed to on the side, so you know it's picking from all the hero's with that attribute on either faction, and it would make it more noticeable. And color the dice red/blue/green :D

The only problem is that heroes often aren't bound to their Attribute. STR doesn't necessarily mean tank, INT doesn't necessarily mean Disabler and/or Support. You could random a STR hero expecting a tank and/or jungler and get stuck with Behemoth -- which plays like an initiative disabler. Why not have random based on role instead?

The -random int, -random str, etc could come eventually. Just more of the mode stuff we want to touch on when we get the chance. Since I got a dev response (although it didn't say much) I won't be bumping this anymore.

Sooooo, yeah... bump?
