View Full Version : Noob games not Noob friendly

First of let me say I like this game. A lot. I recommend it to old DOTA players. I sucked at DOTA so therefore I figured I'd suck here. I was prepared for that. What I wasn't prepared for was the noob servers. I thought thank god, a place where I can play with others my skill teir and not have to worry about being yelled at by the more experinced players. I wasn't to teribly surprised to see those hopes dashed.

There's alot of nice features in this game but the ones that make it friendly to noobs are also makeing us easy targets. I have played maybe five leget noob games. To often has it been all stacked and locked on one side. Many times I've seen players on my side sit, do nothing, and then be ignored by the other team. Not to lift a finger except to vote down a concede vote, and to rapidly have a kick vote shoot out of the sky.

Not to sound like I'm *****ing, because this is a fair concern in the long run imo, but the noob games aren't for noobs. I realize that because this is beta and that caters hard to hard core DOTA players there are gonna be some better players in lower teir, but this is getting rediculus.

The learning curve, lack of training mode, and easy exploits are makeing it hard to be a noob. Would I say you have a good game. Yes I would. Would I say your gonna atract a new player to the game? Probably not. This is all in my opinion though. I've only been here about a week, but this is what I've noticed and it's extreamly frustrateing.

PSR is there, use it. If it says your team has a 10% chance of winning you should probably leave before/during the countdown. Host your own games and use autobalance to spread out the noobs/stompers. The game may not be noob friendly now but trust me they're working on it. If you aren't enjoying it right now then just leave it for a month or two and come back and see how it's improved, or learn to compensate.

The beta isn't too old and some really good DotA-players try HoN atm, so you are naturally being faced with good players that may participate in Newb-Games (below lvl 6 i think). This won't happen in the long run.

This sort of game needs a PvE map that new player can start experimenting and practicing without the competitive environment.

Well new players can create a private game et play alone to practice and test the heroes/items

That is an awful place to practice anything other than jungle farming, pushing and to some extent last hitting. Every time you want to try a another hero you need to restart the game. Note that trying another starting build when level 13 is ridiculous. Not to mention ganking or basic teamwork. There should be a 3vE to learn synergies and a practice mode with 'cheats' enabled. By cheats I mean the ability to control XP, Gold, Reset the game that the towers respawn and creeps degenerate to level one. The ability to change your hero in-game would be a big plus.

Not having to create a new game and sit through the loading screen every time would help. Not to mention private games still count for games played,as far as I know, it's not playing.

A practice mode would be nice. Especially if it had AI controlled heroes. Be a bit easier to learn then. It would also be nice if one person's no vote didn't matter as much as everyone else's yes vote.

I'd like to see a training mode. Where you take control of a few basic heroes and are taught some of the basic and more advanced strategies of the game. That or something similar to what Metal Gear 4 has, where more experienced players actually take on the role of instructer.

PSR is so wrong in many ways when trying to do a stabile game.....

FOR EXAMPLE.. this have happened some times... my team consist of me and one more with 1650 + PSR then we have 3 who have like 1500 and below... and the other team got 5 with ~1550 PSR, so we are stuck with 3 people who don't know when to back, don't speak english/or can't read for some reason.... while the other team got people who are maybe not the best but they know how to play and back....

AND (a little contradiction to above but should be added for noobgames) there are a lot of people who are very good but still have ~1400 psr, they have just had some bad luck in winning games...

Because someone revived it. That's why. This forum was previously the interface forum, then got converted to a mods forum. So everything interface related ended up coming here, but it really shouldn't be here.
