The Problem:
Overall micro'ing appears to be the most difficult mechanic of HoN to master. A lot of times in large group fights selecting specific spawned units or controlled units can be difficult if not impossible. This difficulty leads to a lack of play of heroes like :ophe:. However, the list of heroes this issue effects goes on...:temp::vood::slit::warb::wild::engi::poll: and :GeometersBane::Puzzlebox:

The Solution:
The solution I propose is actually quite simple. Allow CTRL + SHIFT + # to bind a number 1-9 to a unit type. The bound unit type will be based on the name of the unit selected. The bind will select all units under the players control with the bound unit name.

Examples:
:temp: binds his elementals to 2 via CTRL+SHIFT+2. Then upon spawning his next wave of elementals :temp: must simply press 2 to select them all.

:warb: binds his wolves to 2 via CTRL+SHIFT+2. Then upon spawning his next wave of wolves :warb: must simply press 2 to select them all.

:slit: binds his toxic ward to 2 via CTRL+SHIFT+2 and throughout the game when wanting to select spawned wards he presses 2.

:ophe: binds all of her controlled minotaurs to 2 via CTRL+SHIFT+2, while binding her skeleton kings to 3 via CTRL+SHIFT 3. Allowing here to use these binds throughout the game.

The beauty behind this is that it makes micro'ing easier, but in no way does the micro'ing for you. It still may benefit the player to use individual units bound by the standard CTRL+2 or it may benefit them to use this group bind. It's just another tool in micromanagement.

Aaaah, thank you for bringing this up.

I was going to suggest the same thing but I couldn't have put it as eloquently as you. It's such a pain and so hectic having to bind for example Malphas/Beardulon everytime you summon him, or Geometer's Bane illusions. I see absolutely no reason why this can't be implemented.

great idea, i like it because it still doesnt allow every nub to micro efficiently and yet it just makes logical sense to control minions in this way.

There are other polls in popular suggestions, like keeping puzzlebox binds, but from my searching its seems they all just address the problem and none of them propose as solid a solution. However, if there is one I missed please link me.

Now im confused why isn't this implemented already? Should be, T-UP 100%! Have always hated to rerererererererererererebind mobs over and over, mostly this frustrated me in dota with beastmaster...

Both of the threads in popular suggestion are similar to this suggestion, but say nothing about how to fix the problem. Rather, they recognize the problem is there, great. I actually provide a useful and implementable solution. So it does matter.

I've actually thought of it myself.

I believe it won't be added, though, because it would be considered as "too easy" in competitive games.

well, the one@popular suggests same thing, remembering the control groups for future spawns. You just added "select all with same name" thing, which tbh IS breaking microing, albeit just a bit. So again, whats the difference between this and whats suggested@popular?

I'm not sure as I'm not a game developed, but I don't think it would be all that difficult.

And the one in popular just says bind the spell to 2. It provides no customization to the player and/or items. Mine is by far a better solution.

I LOVE this idea, however it does run into a small problem:

What about units of different levels? A lvl 1 elemental and a lvl 4 elemental are NOT the same unit. I believe the spawned elementals are different from the initial 3 as well (if you double click one of the initial one to select them all, the spawned ones dont get selected)

I wish that the game would ignore diff lvls of the same unit and do exactly what the op suggests here

1 for my hero, 2 for my minions, 3 for my courier always!

I know it doesn't take that long to select the units and hit the key you want them bound to, but I think this concept would be nice.

This would be really good for Hellbringer as well. Sure, he's only got 1 minion, but considering how important that minion is to his battle strategy...

Also it would be really cool if 1 was autobound to your own hero. If people wanted to use different keys, I'm sure that it could be set to some control option.

Agreed. Persistent binds are only enabled on Wildsoul atm, where a few other heroes/item effects needs these too.

This is a brilliant idea!! Too bad someone thought of it already and it still hasnt even come in. The bind commands are a pain to do all the time just once should be enough

Well with retail approaching, I doubt this will ever get implemented, but it is a great concept and as more and more diverse heroes get added to the game this idea makes more and more sense. Really wish the S2 guys would read this =(

I'd also settle simply for key binds to be kept after death, atm say on tundra you can bind bird to one key bind and Tundra and other pet to another, but on death (every 60 seconds) when you summon new pets, the game does not remember the keybinds, and so you have to rebind groups every 60 secs.

The group binds remembers wildsouls bear, so why not this on tundra ?

Yeah I'm glad this got implemented. Not rly glad I got no credit for it. but whatevs.
