Near bottom, where they talk about custom maps. Watch the custom maps list.

It's simply an example, as it is one of the most popular WC3 maps. Nothing more.

It's just an example, not a Blizzard developed DotA map. Jeez.

You guys don't know blizzard. If they show something, it means they're doing it. Plus the list is a mix from classic blizzard-made, epic fan-made and unknown custom maps. Sure it's an example, but blizzard has always had the habit of revealing stuff like that.

If icefrog was allright with S2 making a dota like game, why wouldn't he agree on something similar from blizzard?

Icefrog doesn't have to "be alright" with anyone, seeing as he doesn't own anything. Blizzard owns all the copyrights to all of DotA. S2 asked Icefrog just to be on good terms. What do you think would happen if Blizzard just swooped in and took over DotA under Icefrog's nose, all of his followers would be outraged.

They are gonna make so much money.

The three first titles, SC2, D3 & WoW are already some of the most popular games in their genre, and without a doubt, Blizzards next-gen MMO will be so massive everything will be dust compared to it.

Yes, it's probably over the top but I can't stop thinking what incredible things Blizzard can do with todays hard&software compared to when SC/D1(2) & WoW was made.

Except that they already announced that the SDK is being released with SC2, so even if they did charge for maps, someone could make an exact copy of it and release that.

You're reading WAY too much into this...

All it's saying is "Hey look, you can make dota easily". It doesn't imply in any way that THEY'RE going to make dota.

And I was at blizzcon, I don't remember that, but I might have just missed it.

Yeah I should but I won't. I already paid for this greater game, why pay $49.99 for another Dota game...(now I know how people who don't want to pay for HoN feel )

SC2 DotA might beat HoN, at least in popularity. I'm going to purchase both HoN and SC2. But I won't buy SC2 for custom maps, I'll buy it because SC2 will most likely be one of the best games ever made.

The PIcture where you read Dota Allstars and ElementTD is the new BattleNet 2.0 INterface kids.

it only shows a combination of mods from the games which are listed in the battlenet.

im sorry to say, but no Dota for SC2.

RIP Dota

dota depends a lot on the mechanics of animations, if sc2 is smoother in terms of unit attack animations (eliminating the need for animation cancelling) etc., a lot of the core gameplay of dota will be lost. Dota might feel way different in sc2, but anyways I have high hopes for it.

t9sniper
02-11-2010, 12:05 PM
Well considering ICEfrog won't have anything to do with a sc2 dota then i don't think it will end up doing that well.

(i say he won't have time to do that because hes working with valve on something supposedly)

LOL its an example. You think Blizzard would be worried about making a DotA 2.0 with the release of SC2? SC2 is and will be a much bigger competitive game than DotA or any DotA 2.0 will ever be.

SC2 owns HoN. It will have millions of players.

Can't wait.

Shabla
02-11-2010, 01:04 PM
Agreed, Blizzard won't do a dota map themself, the players will have all they need to do it. And why would it needs to be a dota port. I mean, the principe is pretty simple: bunch of heroes, towers and creep waves.

As for SC2 > Hon or Hon > SC2, they are not comparable, SC2 is a full fledged RTS, HoN is "just" a dota style game.

I'm pretty sure SC2/D3/Cataclysm are already best sellers, whatever Blizzard show or doesn't show won't change that.

its a template dota map.. they said that at blizzcon , and in the links posted in this topic..

its probably map, creep scripts.. few heroes few items.. and stuff.. but nothing like original dota.. while still being dota.. template

simple enough ?

MsChoksOnDik

Elarain

This game was $30. It's a good game and worth that price. SC2 will probably have a dota but with a new engine who knows how much of the code can just be brought over and still function? They may have to start from scratch, and it'll be awhile before a dota with tons of heroes is out.

And we don't know what other features will come along with it. Models? Mechanics? Reconnection? Since HoN was built for this, it may still prove to be superior. Even if it isn't, S2 earned my $30.

Of course i'll be buying SC2 regardless. SC2 ME> HoN mythical ME. And the player base will ensure tons of decently fun and creative custom maps. The fact that blizz is offering to sort of sponsor fantastic mods and even allow modders to charge for their work means you'll probably have pretty large groups of talented modders hoping to get some well done mods with penny price tags out there.

Well, penny tags or not, if i had paid a penny for every single dota map i had on my computer then id feel ripped off. Not incredibly ripped off, but i would feel some grief about the fact that the intial price of the game i played was less than 1/80th the amount i paid for its updates/mods.

That can be worked around, no doubt about that, but a reasonable business model for it will be hard to decide on.

oh lawd, i get so sad on behalf of the people involved when someone actually gets mad about who posted what first (at least when its something like this).

I mean, i can understand the whole Bell vs Grey deal, but a post about SC2 dota?

And when i put it into perspective and thinks more about it, my sad just becomes so much bigger. What sort of life must a person have to actually want to take credit for posting about SC2 dota first?

I really hope it was some unfunny joke that i just totally missed, but its not like its the first time ive seen something like this.

Yes, i know its called Warcraft Adventures now, back when i first heard about it, they called it World of Warcraft. Kinda obvious why it needed a namechange deed.

Not even blizzard are lame/stupid enough to call an ADVENTURE game set in the WARCRAFT universe Warcraft Adventures, back when they were respectable the game had a real name.
