Out of the 2000(ish) games I've played since I started playing HoN... I've run into exactly 3 females and all 3 of them tried to be extremely secretive of their gender.

So I can safely say, the ratio of males to females is something like 5000:1 or there are a lot of females which attempt to avoid interacting with our abrasive community at all costs.

The problem isn't really about women being secretive or not, it's about how some women spoiled it for everyone. For every 5 girls there are playing a game like normal individuals there's one that's just a social reject attention whore that makes her femininity the focus of any conversation that takes place around her. They can't get attention from the real world or whatever so they decide to make a universe revolve around then. (They also nearly invariably suck at the game this is taking place in.) This type is, what I hope to be, the vast minority. However, it's also the type you tend to notice more. Squeaky wheel, so to speak.

Said type girl wants to build a cult of personality... which makes some guys pissed off at how the girl is manipulating other people... which makes guys hate this girl and generalize that all girls in games are like this... which leads to the constant trolling girls get.

A vicious cycle because a couple of girls decided to crap in the apple pie for everyone.

I used to play with a kid on xbox live who's voice was high, he'd get the no balls thing a lot. So one day he started saying that he was a girl online, and people went batshit insane. Usually guys only laugh/make fun for like.. a couple minutes. The important thing is winning the game, so I usually tell them to just stfu and play. Communicating ganks and pushes helps for a quick win! :3
