Best game you have ever played?

As the title suggests, I was bored so im just wondering what some of your favorite games you ever played are. (Any console, system, etc.) Any year it came out is fine, but for the sake of buttkissery don't say HEROES OF NEWERTH lol.


Anyway, I think honestly the best game I ever played so far is going to be CS:S, not because of perhaps its gameplay, but the years of playing it, countless hours wasted away scrimming with buds. :) What about you guys?

Shooters: Halo and Halo 2 were the first shooter games that I didn't think sucked. Goldeneye in it's prime was okay, but not great for me.
Right now I've got 6.5 days or something logged on Modern Warfare 2 and I don't even play it at my house.

RPGs: Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario are my favorite RPGs.

Awesome: Starfox 64 was awesome, I still play it today from time to time.

MMOs: Phantasy Star Online is the only MMO that I liked, even though it was just as terrible as any MMO. I bought City of Heroes cuz i made a few heroes at my friends house and that was pretty fun, but my computer didn't live up to specs.

agreed, it only got good acclaim because it was the best FPS on console. Compared to other FPSers on the PC the Halo series is average. Proof is in the scores, on the XBOX it received 97% on average, when it was released on PC it scored 83%

You played it at the right time in your life is all. I had some fun on Halo, but not nearly as much fun as me and my buds did staying up all night playing Goldeneye or Perfect Dark or Power Stone.

I still think Perfect Dark was the superior console FPS, fun-wise.

Think it's sort of a nostalgia thing. I don't think I could go into it fresh as recently as a decade ago and still like it the way I did the rainy weekend I rented it from Blockbuster as a kid. It was a weird quirky RPG that had a lot of heart that stood out from the crowd.

FFX is my fav game through all time, I still listen to To Zanarkand. Such an epic piece with so much memories attached to it.

TES III: Morrowind was an awesome game too. I love games where you can roam freely in a big world, exploring cool places, kill anyone you wish, decide wtf you wanna do.

I also love games where you can sneak. Steal stuff or stealthkill someone, infiltrate a facility, knock out a guard and hide him in a closet, proceed to disable the alarm and so on. Deus Ex: Invisible War was a game where you could do this. I really enjoyed that game.

I love games where you can complete stuff in different ways. I hope more games like the ones mentioned above gets developed.

Edit: I just came up with some more.

Half Life 2. I love the clever use of the in game physics to make it through the game, a pretty good story too. Played it through twice.

Star Craft. Awesome RTS, had so much fun with this game.

Age of empires 2 conquerors expansion. Also a very good RTS, still play it at LAN parties on occasion.

Might of magic VIII. Not that great of a game but I enjoyed it.

Heroes of might and magic III. Yeah I liked that game too.

Kingdom hearts 1&2. Yeah lame with the disney crap but still good games. 1st one is better imo.

CoD UO, CoD 2, CoD MW. Great series, end of story.

I can probably come up with more games, but this wil have to do. And yeah, I know the thread is about my favourite game but I played so many good games, and plenty to come I hope.

Ico, storywise it was fun. Gameplay was simple but it had an ambience to it I haven't found elsewhere. It's one of those "games are art" kind of games. It plays like a puzzle game with a little bit of combat mixed in. Highly recommend it.

Honestly I prolly spent the Most time in Starcraft. ya I know it's a generic response, but I had SOOOO many good times playing that games with friends. Diablo II and WC3 would def be runners up. Dragon Age/ME2 come close to that fun level but not as much replayability. Oblivion and Morrowind also kept me entertained for ages, big props to those too

On Console however I would have to give a big shout out to The Zelda games, specifically OOT and Wind Waker, (TP was great too) aswell as Armored Core 2 for PS2. I spent alot of time in those games.

It's really hard to say. At the time when I was a kid I was really loving games alot more than now, more enthusiastic, but those games seem like total crap right now. I am talking nes games basicly.

I have played a ton of games throughout my life and enjoyed many different genres. Some multiplayer games that stick out has been quake, ultima online, but these games are easily toppled by newer titles of the same genres, but they were extremely epic.

One singleplayer game I enjoyed more than any other must have been master of magic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_of_Magic), I mean look at the reviews on gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/masterofmagic/) for this one!

Other than that, if HoN comes equipped with its own version of the custom map editor (like warcraft3) which allows for even better custom maps to be created, then I think HoN will, for me atleast, take the inevitable throne as the master of all games.

I am basing that on the fact that most titles that come out nowadays are either very short, cinematic singleplayer games, which have enormous production value but offer very little in the way of actual good gaming (see: dragon age, mass effect 2, neverwinter nights 2, metal gear solid 2, oblivion, fallout 3, I could go on with this list, also, its still just my opinion.)

Or they are massive timesink mmorpg WoW wannabe cashcows trying to make a buck instead of sticking with any type of integrity, its like they use focus groups testing to try and make the game that will please as many as possible instead of thoroughly pleasing gamers.

So left we are with a very simple concept of make your own games in an old title like warcraft 3 and obviously they had the right idea when they made the mapeditor because people still play dota, and obviously dota was pure win as it spawned numerous standalone titles. Likewise as halflife spawned counterstrike for free and got to reap massive benefits.

The point is that a game has to last, it has to have lategame potential (mmorpgs don't count because they are often trash), and be strong in the end, for that it needs a foundation that gives players incentive to keep playing. Allowing players to use a great mapeditor could potentially make the game immortal!

Not surprised at all the Final Fantasy 7's I'm seeing, but I still don't get why noone is mentioning Final Fantasy 9, in my opinion it's the best of the series.

-Neverwinter Nights (NWN 1 and 2) : it's just epic and...awesome.
-World of Warcraft Vanilla time and TBC maybe.Now WoW is just another crap.
-The Elder Scrolls Morrowind / Oblivion.Even tho Morrowind is more of a classic.

Planetside Torment for PC

Do you mean Planescape Torment? Or was Torment some expansion for Planetside?

Planescape Torment was great though, i loved it as well. I'd go as far as to rate it best game of that engine, but i never was much of a Baldurs fan anyway.
