this is a copy of the post i made in the general forums http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=69291

So many people, especially since this is a beta, have to deal with people joining a game with 2 accounts, one on each team, and then leaving at the start of the game so it's 5v4. this is an all too common occurence that really has been seen as "too bad just concede its beta stats dont matter" attitude.

that's all well and fine, but to preserve the continuity of gameplay and overall enjoyment something must really be done. i can recall several times in a game of 5v4, that we'd still play just to see how it turned out, a friend getting online and saying "hey are you guys almost done?"

well it would be very nice if i were to say to my friend "this game has 'join in progress' enabled so just join in bc we're 5v4". instead of a leavers hero being destroyed and their assets distributed to the team. the hero is merely put on 'standby' so when a person re-enters the game it's like they never left.

now obviously there will have to be a timelimit since level differences will happen. so i propose that after the 5 minute dc timeout, there is a 2-3 minute window for someone to join the game and take the hero over so the game can continue 5v5. obviously one hero will be behind in experience and money but as long as you have a decent team you can make the difference up with some well mannered gameplay.

this would have NO competitive value and would only help out the pub games, which are the majority of games. it would also prevent people from purposefully leaving a game to "grief" when it can just be continued no problem by other people.

an overall enjoyment would go up as the completion of full 5v5 games would rise, think of games like l4d2 where you can join in progress just with no ai controlling the hero while there's no one there.

Sounds like a solid idea, although:

1) What about PSR differencials?

2) Would the ringing player be able to get PSR/Statistics?
