So, I want to get it, but I must know what would happen if I never have any saves from Mass effect 1 on my computer. You see I played ME 1 on my 360, but since I got my new computer and new monitor and new.. everything, you can see why I want to move over to computer for ME2, but the problem is I rather not pay 20$ to rebuy ME1 just to play through it quickly for the story line setup, am I able to play guilt free with a fresh ME2 profile?

Well, the developers were toting the fact that decesions and relationships you made in me1 effecting the story as a main feature...

Highlight for sort of spoilers.

A fresh game assumes that you let the council die, picked Udina, let your non love interest die on Virmire, and also shot Wrex on Virmire

You can play ME2 without having played ME1, but since you have it played, nothing will go bad.

All the decisions you made will just not copy over because you change to PC. So the game makes up a ME1 "Story" for you i think.

i'd definately recommend playin ME1 tbh, the stories for both 1 2 and the upcoming 3 (just read those loading screen tips :P) are very linked together.

download it off a torrent and use the givesupergun console command, do a quick run through the game. thats what i ended up doing.
seeing as youve already bought the game and its only for personal use your downloading it off a torrent isnt going to give you any renegade points if youre worried about that.

nine whole post without someone derailing the topic, new record?

IMO just torrent ME1 (You already bought it on 360, why not?) Rush through it and make the choices you want, play ME2.

Question to all that played ME2, is the annoying vehicle crap still in the game? that's what killed re playability in ME1 for me was having to drive that ****ing rover thing.

Tyrando

na they removed the Marv? was it, all you do now is just scan planets from orbit and its just trial and error when scoping over the planet to find a large amount of resources, though i must say with all the upgrades in the game it gets rather tiresome scanning planets all the time.

best bet is to just finish ME2 once and then start up a new game, you'll recieve a 50,000 bonus of all resources when you begin the new game, makes it much easier especially with Element Zero.

If you get ME2 on PC you can very easily get ME1 save files from the internet to use. I've seen sites where they have about every sort of relationship and decision combination very nicely organized.

The amount of immersion you get by importing an ME1 save makes it almost cheating yourself if you don't import one.

EDIT: this game is so awesome. ME1 is my favorite game ever (I'm a sucker for space opera, what can I say), so...yeah.

Also, you won't really understand a whole lot about ME2 if you don't play ME1 first, since it's a direct sequel.

I started a new game on Mass Effect 2 without importing a save game. The game made up the storyline from the first almost like I played it back when it came out. In my new game Kaidan and Wrex were dead so I didn't miss much by not importing the old game. (Only difference was that Wrex didn't die in my original game.)

Great game. 20h in now and mostly just been farming planets and gaining the loyalty of my crew.

I imported my save from ME1 and it boosted XP and minerals for research mostly, but nothing that a half an hour couldn't grind up.

Like said above you choose at the beginning of the game all the major choices from the previous game.

It's a seriously fun game with way more plot and interesting worlds than the last game.

So, I just slept with Miranda. If only every girl I knew was biotically altered to be perfect, AND had daddy problems that enabled them to have a clone sister who I get to save, thus making her eternally debtful to my alter-ego, commander Shepard.

You know, typing that whore fiasco out, I'd rather a hooker.

You can play Mass Effect 2 unhindered without any saves. You just get small bonuses and follow the same storyline if you have saves.

Wish I could get my damn copy. I have it waiting at Gamestop with my names on it but a ****ing blizzard came through and everything is closed.

SPOILER ALERT

I just finished the game, recruited everyone, even did the DLC of the Normandy Crash and the mercenary (which I failed to see in the end cutscenes). I made sure everyone was loyal and pursued the relationship with Tali (Which I was dissapoint that I didn't get to see her face, but instead of just people wanting a sex scene it was really funny, especially Mordins talk about interspecies relations) (http://www.eveonline.com/externalLink.aspx?l=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eyoutube%2Ec om%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dt1yp78vjKao) <[Warning, more spoiler there too].

Beyond that doing the last final mission and having everyone loyal I did get them all out alive, but there were some places I was bitting my fingers screaming "C'MON DON'T DIE!" Not only that but the last level took an approach that was familiar and it still felt fresh, like I was doing it for the first time. But the last boss.. well the last boss will give me nightmares for awhile, especially when it came alive. It seemed to throwback to other bosses in older games, IE: 5:03 on this video (http://www.eveonline.com/externalLink.aspx?l=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eyoutube%2Ec om%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dl06rRIeCTws)

Other than that I loved the game, being able to save the ship as "Someone other than Shepard" was surprising. I went Soldier, took a save off this site that had me pursue relations with the Asari, had me keep the council alive, and put Anderson in charge along with few other keypoint decisions that wanted to bite me in the ass. I had a lot of fun with the new combat system, absolutely zero time spent melting down extra weapons and gear into medi-gel and playing around with upgrades for hours. Instead I spent those hours using the new scanning system which kept me occupied (Seriously? Why can't we mine like this in Eve Online!?) for awhile. Other than that I spent most of my time doing decisions that felt "Right" to me in my eyes, but it doesn't mean I can't be an ******* and kill a few people or headbutt a Krogan.

Overall Enjoyable Game, I would recommend at least one play through (I usually only do one play through, or more playthroughs after a few months). On a scale of 1-10 I'd give it a 9, there was just some weird feelings while conversing where it felt dead, or that the options didn't exactly reflect what Shepard actually said (And not in a good way). Was glad to go places I never been for before, and I was even imagining in my head while playing ME1. I enjoyed the change of pace and change to most if not all the combat system and travel system. I miss some of the conversations between characters (Would love to see how Legion and Tali do in an elevator together, hell most my missions after I got them involved Legion and Tali tagging along) but those 2 different confrontations between teammates kind of made up for it.

And of course, Seth Green delivers, and delivers well. I enjoyed it, I hope everyone else did. Can't wait for ME3.

I just finished the game, and I'd have to say it is probably the best damn game I've ever played (for the genre, anyway). Everything felt very polished and the game was an improvement over the original in every way. That said, there were a few things I wasn't satisfied with:

Mineral scanning felt pretty tedious after the first few times.
The new Normandy fuel system seemed completely pointless. It added no depth.
An abundance of star systems that don't seem to have any notable purpose.
Lack of council interaction. The Citadel was so central to the first game and I felt like it was too glossed over.
No follow-up to the Rachni choice from the first game. The decision to free or kill the queen was the most interesting choice in the first game, in my opinion. I was hoping it would at least have a minor tie in to the sequel.
Fewer big choices than the original game. The final decision at the end was the only one that made me pause and think.
I finished a smuggling quest for Ish on Omega, but it bugged out and is still stuck in my journal as incomplete.
At the end of the Horizon mission, Ashley coming out from behind a crate was really bizarre. It should have at least showed her and the remaining colonists unfreezing or something.
I found the design of the end boss too comedic. I can't imagine how it would be a practical shape for a large space warship (if it had been completed).
I banged Tali but I didn't get to see her face!

Despite completing all major and loyalty quests, I've only explored about a third of the galaxy. I'm probably going to go through the whole thing now. I'm hoping there are still some interesting side-missions. If I don't find any, I'll still be impressed though. Most of the main quests had me pumped and they did a good job making all the characters seem like total badasses (notably the one for Garrus).

I played through as a Soldier. My first end run I lost Thane and Legion. I redid it (because I saved right before Omega-4) and didn't lose anyone. I think I'll probably start a new game as a Vanguard and see how that is. Biotic charge looks like it could be fun.

Overall, I'd give the game a 95/100.

I encountered a funny exchange about this. I had Garrus and Tali with me in the Citadel. I was on the stairs between decks and Garrus asked Tali if she missed the conversations they used to have in elevators. Tali said something to the effect of "Hell no". I got a pretty good laugh from it.

There was actually a fair bit of humor in this game. The game nerd on the Citadel (especially the reference to Hanar/Asari porn), the Krogan comparing a presidium fish to screwing the consort, the cross-species bachelor party on Illium, and pretty much everything that came out of Mordin's mouth. I bet the writers for the game love their job.

Ya rachni don't have a huge impact this game but they may have in the next game. I turned over the base to Cerberus, I hope that doesn't bite me in the ass.

I may have to do a playthrough where I just dont give him the base. Other than that I would find it hard finding a save with that option and still have all the teammates alive like I did.

Considering how choices from the last game only made superficial differences in this one, you probably don't have to worry about it. I decided to save the base on my first end run (and lost two guys). I loaded the game back to the Omega-4 jump, kept all my guys alive, and decided to blow it up. The only difference is that the illusive man is pissed off (and his whole room is tinted blue instead of red) and my teammates didn't second guess me like the first time.

No, that's what sucked about it. Sheppard takes off her mask and they start making out, but the camera angle is behind Tali, so you never see her face.

Even if you don't see her face, her acting through all of it and all of the conversations that led up to it were A+ in my book, I thought it was great.
