View Full Version : How do you avoid raging?

Well basically as the title says, i've been playing hon for a while now and everytime i play with friends(who aren't really that good) i always end up raging like hell at them. And everytime the other team trashtalks i always trashtalk back, which ends up frustrating me even more.

So basically, is there anything i should think of when im getting frustrated or start to rage?

Smoking weed calms your nerves and makes things significantly less stressful. Not my fault you don't approve of it, or that most of the US doesn't approve of it. You asked for a way to help with stress, I offered advice.

or on the cases where someone is raging ALL GAME from less then five minutes till the very end when we win/lose. I can't stand listening to people ***** constantly CONSTANTLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY YYYYYYYYYYYY

After playing CS:S all year last year, I've basically given up on raging, unless I get owned many times in quick succession, usually I just sigh and give up, watch some videos, get inspired, come back, fail, then I just do something else.

make an alt and play on that. when you're about to lose, buy a blink dagger and a hatchet and ****ing making a path to their fountain.

Yes. The ability to restrain yourself from raging will come in time. Just keep practicing. First of all, remember this.

If you're in an argument, insults have no merit whatsoever. So if you're telling someone they shouldn't start with boots, and they say "**** you", then don't get mad. They're just being immature. It may not feel like it, but if you handle the situation professionally (for example, asking him why he swore at you or such in a non-negative tone), others will see that in you, even if they don't say it out loud.

If they trashtalk and flame, you can play along, and pretend you're having some friendly conversation. They will usually get even madder by doing this, but it is a good way to sort of vent yourself out without actually trashtalking. And it's not bad on your part because you're trying to be friendly. In some occasions though, they may stop raging and start trolling around with you cause they might find it fun too. In the end, there's less rage :).

If they keep yelling at you for some thing and don't listen to what you have to say, then say something like this. "If you're not going to listen, then I'm not going to explain. Go on ahead and keep thinking I'm wrong and you're right." You can even give them a sort of compliment by saying "I respect your right to ignore me."

If they keep saying things like "umad?" then just play along (like above) and say may be, no, or even yes in a comical manner. You could even make a joke out of it... "I just spilled my coke over my piano..."

And other stuffz like that. Hope this helps :). Remember... PEOPLE WILL SEE IT if you act professionally! (Not game-wise, but maturity wise). If they keep trashtalking back, it is normal. Those who trashtalk are those that are (or seem to want to show that they are) unable to argue or discuss something properly and productively, and instead have to turn to trashtalking to try to make the other person feel bad. So even if you handle it professionally, they may still flame. But they will see the maturity in the way you speak, or rather, type.

Hope this helps!

This is kind of unrelated, but this morning I learned that if the opposing team has a disconnect, if your team gets a flying courier and parks it behind the enemy fountain, you can steal all of the items the d/c drops into the fountain by waiting for him to drop out of the game, using the invulnerability on the courier, flying in, nabbing all the items, and flying out before invulnerability wears off.

Saw someone do it today, and was in complete awe/lulz.

i make them rage instead.

EDIT:

for more details it really depends on the situation. Some players, usually the ones with X's in their name, just rage at anyone that doesn't dive into fights with them. And no there is no warning, they are just wandering around, run into 5 people, and get upset their team wasn't following them.

answer: Call them a feeder and no matter what he says say... "I understand what you're saying, but please stop feeding."

Sometimes you'll run into the kid who took a philosphy class and thinks he's amazing. Usually bringing up logic / someone being "retarded".

answer: Make 0 sense and don't stop calling him a kid / saying he lives with his mother. 100% of the time they'll reply with their academic / other achievements they claim to have done. Then you just make less sense than you did before and say things like "you suck dick at hon" or just anything relating to their player skill, whether it be true or not.

I could go on and on about the type of people on this game, just don't forget you only really lose if you take anything on the internet seriously.

Exercise to burn pent up energy and release happy hormones into your system. Have responsibilities in your life, such as a job or classes, that make you realize the game isn't important in the grand scheme of things.

*shrug*

When Counter-Strike was new, I played it a lot and raged so hard all the time. What it basically came down to was that I spent too much time playing it and lacked a good balance of other activities.

You should learn to channel your anger into something constructive. It's really not okay to throw tantrums over anything, let alone over what some guy you'll never play with again does. Try to recognize when you're going to lose it and stop to think about what is really bothering you. If everything in your life is peachy and you still can't help but rage when you're losing a game, you need to spend some time figuring yourself out.

For the short term:
-Don't play HoN when you're already upset about something.
-Before you rage at someone, take a second and figure out if it's really worth it.
-Accept some responsibility. If you're better than your friends and you CHOOSE to play with them, you need to lead them in game or find constructive ways to give them advice.

Weed might help you not rage but it will just make your team rage at you even more, also saying "I'm high" makes you look like a retard, it's cool that you're high but saying you are doesn't make you cool

It has a lot to do with your personality. Raging at a video game is not much different than raging at anything else, it simply means you're fast to anger.

You also have to ask yourself how 'important' it is for you to WIN in HoN. Do you take gaming that seriously? You rage over it because you feel it's important. You obviously wouldn't rage over losing in a game that is not important to you.

It's all perception. Somebody might say "It's just a game, relax", but they wouldn't understand it from the point of a professional gamer who's dedicated to playing video games for a living (example).

So ask yourself why you rage. I never rage in HoN because there's no goal other than to have FUN. And I guess losing is not the definition of FUN, so maybe you're a sore loser?

How did I avoid raging? Growing up. I just don't get mad much at stuff anymore.

Losing in a video game means nothing after you've seen the loss in real life.

This is hilarious. I play with a bunch of ragers, and sometimes I egg them on for the lulz.(used to call two of them the qqbros over vent) But if I start doing this theres no way anyone could rage haha.

Anyway, from elementary through high school I was the only kid in my district with a filing cabinet for misbehavior, everybody else had a manila folder. So they threw me in with the burnouts and retards in special ed when I got kicked out of class.(Anger management bundled in with that)

I seriously advise everyone to take anger management. I haven't been the slightest bit angry since I left middle school. When I say that, I'm 100% serious. The closest I've gotten to anger is mild frustration in ?6? years.(granted I didn't get angry very much before that, but still) If you're serious about it, anger management can work wonders. The best analogy I can come up with is; if you're watching a sad movie, you can't joke with friends otherwise you won't get the message, but if you keep a dapper atmosphere and analyze the movie as it plays you'll attain the correct emotions the movie tries to express.

tl;dr take anger management

well all i can say is remember its a game, remember its a beta. Its just not worth getting upset about a game that you play for fun.

On the other hand i just dont get the Dota/HoN community anymore. Just 5 minutes ago i felt like playing a game but the host forgot to lock 2 people before ab. He made a mistake, everybody should understand that he didnt do it on purpose or because of a lack of intelligence. But as soon as we get to the selectionscreen people just loose it. Retard, noob, morron etc etc. What is wrong with people???
You could say something like "Host you forgot to lock us we need a remake" but instead its just insult after insult.
The game hasnt even started yet and people just snap at the first opportunity.

I rarely find a game where i have the feeling that i play with normal people.
Can anybody explain to me how the hell you can get worked up this much over a normal public game (on top of that in BETA) ? HoN is an extremly situational game and there are so many factors to consider. Yet people always need another person to blame and insult.

I have the feeling that 50% of all people playing HoN are exactly like this kid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8SWMAQYQf0
atleast that is how i imagine them when they start to rage.

and its just a game. Did I mention it's just a game

any raging is usualy if i **** up heaps. Or if some1 pisses me off ill rage out loud (like IRL) but won't rage @ the other person through text/voice. Just to myself at how bad they are lol.

People don't seem to realize yelling/abusing someone will not make them listen to you.

If someone starts swaring/yelling at me and telling me what to do through insults etc I'll ignore them. If they offer advice and do it in a proper way I'll listen :).
