This idea popped into mind after reading a backdoor thread, people were either for it or against it for varying reasons, and each had pretty solid justifications for their views. I had already posted this as a general idea in that thread but after thinking about it overnight it actually seemed to me like a decent idea. So here we are.
First off, HoN like Dota is supposed to be a team game, you use teamwork to prevail, ganking together, pushing together, covering each other, etc
My idea was that each surviving lane tower (each lane has 2 lane towers and 1 base tower) gives a % of damage reduction to the other towers in its lane, likewise base buildings could give a % of damage reduction to the 2 throne towers.
These are just random numbers, so noone should take these as exactly what could or would be implemented.
The first tower in a lane would be exactly how it is now, no change in how much damage it takes, but if the first tower is still alive then the second tower and base tower get a -25% damage from all sources modifier, likewise the base tower would also get an additional -25% damage modifier from the second tower, for a total of -50% damage. Ofcourse when a tower dies the modifier for that lane disappears.
-First tower = current 100% dmg
-Second Tower = 100% - 25% dmg (if first tower is alive)
-Base tower/rax = 100% - ( 25% (first tower) + 25% (second tower) )
This would promote team pushing, as its a team game, though backdooring would still be possible, this would prevent or deter single people for the most part killing a tower solo, while still allowing teams to backdoor together (still teamwork)
This could also be done for the 2 defending throne towers, for each full rax they could get 10%-20% damage reduction from all sources, but i doubt this is needed as the throne towers are already pretty strong.
Personally i dont like backdooring, it ruins the teamwork aspect of the game.
(think back to dota before the item pooling change, mortred in the forest...elazor farming creeps in lane.hell u didnt even know they had a mortred because they never stopped farming, suddenly it appears at lvl 16 with lifesteal, travels, bkb and 3xbattlefury, while everyone else is halfway to their endgame build...you understand the general premise. Prettymuch meant GG for the other team since they would get crit for 3k and entire team aoe'd from 1 guy, likewise he could solo towers/rax in about 5-10sec)
However if someone backdoors our team intentionally[read: killing the tower] (i normally let slide if ppl attack towers but stop and run away), as i said if someone backdoors i normally backdoor back, but still it ruins a perfectly enjoyable even game.
Went off topic a bit; summary:
-Surviving lane towers give the towers behind it -% dmg bonuses.
-This would promote lane pushing rather than backdooring.
-Backdoor would still be possible but would require someone to be farmed up hardcore, or for them to do it as a team (teamwork is teamwork).
-This would not affect current gameplay immensly (unless you're someone who plays with the intention of backdooring every game).
-Coding wise, from a stand alone perspective it would be easy enough, but im unsure of how many variables are connect to towers/lanes so it could prove quite a hassle and troublesome.
