What is Oracle of Newerth?
It's a program that helps you find guides to heroes in the game with a single click. Just click a hero and your default web browser will open the link automagically.

What are the requirements?
You must have the following:

Windows XP/Vista/7
.NET Framework 3.5
An internet browser (duh!)

Can I use this in Linux/Mac?
Unfortunately, this program only runs in Windows XP, Vista and 7. Previous versions of Windows are untested.

Is it free of virus/trojan/other-nasty-stuff?
Of course it is! In fact, you can even download the source code here (http://sharebee.com/79248753) and compile it yourself.

Download it now, toy with it, and most importantly give some feedback. I'd love to incorporate new things into the application.

Hope you guys like it. :D

Nice, however, Keshoon suggests you order the heroes like it is in game, rather alphabetically. A lot easier to find a hero that way!

seems like an awesome idea.

How can I get this moved to the Applications subforum?

could you use a different file download service next time? These survey things are really annoying, and it blocks your download. Use mediafire or something next time.

papuccino1

I don't know what you mean by survey's. ShareBee just uploads the file to multiple sharing sites so the user can choose what's best for them.

Just scroll down a bit and you'll see link for Rapidshare, Bodongo, ZShare, Megaupload, etc.

No surveys.

That DOWNLOAD! button throws you off, it's actually an ad (It'll say to the right). PHEN and I had the same problem LOL.

I turned off AdBlock Plus just to see what you guys are talking about, I don't see anything resembling "Download" as an ad. Would you mind posting a screenshot?

Apologies for the mixup. :D

Edit: Nevermind. I know exactly what you mean now. I opened the Open Source link that I posted and was taking to that survey site. Granted you could click 'skip ad' to move along. This is just lame. I'll change the links ASAP, tonight when I get home from class.

In the mean time please just bear with the crap. :(

I believe this is what they are talking about, either way it doesn't really matter just click the links in between the download ads.

papuccino1
01-13-2010, 07:22 PM
Well that's even worse! How cheesy of them to put ads like that on their site. They used to be top class, don't know what happened.

Changing links later on tonight.

OK, finally changed the download link and added mirrors to popular hosting sites. Test it out and remember to let me know your suggestions. :)

Still no mediafire? That's the most popular one on these forums :)

I'll add it later xD

People really like using it?

MaxGhost

Minimal ads, 2 clicks to the download, good file management tools if you have an account, 200mb per file limit, etc.

What's the difference between this and my GuideHelper (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=31827) (except there are pictures)?

FulgoreSama

You probably just stated the difference.

Maybe its because people like pictures :D

What are you using that requires .NET 3.5 instead of just 2.0?

papuccino1
01-15-2010, 04:38 PM
The main difference is that this uses nice pictures and easily allows you to choose who you want to read a guide for.

Of course I'm open to suggestions to implement some new features. :)

Just let me know.

It's alphabetical except for magebane and magmus at the bottom, just wanted you to note that.

papuccino1

I'll fix the alphabetical order tomorrow night. I was thinking of adding Announcer voices when you click a Hero, but that would add about 5mb to the .exe file.

Do you guys think it's worth it?

just include all the guides , what sence to send through the browser to the forum ? just copy and write who made guide with link to the forum.

Omg yes! The announcer voices would make it epic! 5 more mb is nothing :D

Any chance of some form of collaboration between you and Simuu?
Was hoping to see a few guides for each hero, as in when a portrait is clicked, for a smaller selection of guides to be listed. That way I know that I'm not missing out on anything by using one over any other that's similar e.g. Oracle/GuideHelper

Also is it possible to launch the guide in a window within the application as opposed to an external browser? I know it may seem like a waste of time but for an app to be self contained is much more delicious, I just love seeing docked side-windows slide out.

On a programming note, I'm struggling to look through your code. I'm quite the beginner but I can't find the sections that are making the image mouseover effects and the click events (or whatever they are called in C#). Any chance of a little writing on the process of building this app?

Finally I think its a great concept with really nice graphical interfaces. Keep up the good work.

Any help on finding this section of the code? (48 hour bump)

EDIT: I understand the part that is opening the links. Still confused about the image effects happening though. I don't see a function for it ><?
EDIT2: Just saw your alternative background haha. I like space better too.

Since the application is made with WPF, i think this is XAML Code and is stored somewhere else (just use google). I have no experience in WPF.

Been playing around with your source all day, added a few little novelty functions here and there. I'll start working on inbuild web browser controls today.

A small question, what are your settings when publishing the application? Also from what section is the executable that you provided coming from i.e. is the executable built in debug or release or from a published solution?

I built in release mode with the manifests setup so that the icon is included, and that the files aren't appended with the .deploy extension and I think it's coming out at the same compression as yours.

Just letting you know I made a modification today, a few requested features such as the inbuilt browser and a couple other novelties.

I'll keep working on it, you can find it here (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?p=1738597).
Figured this would be ok as it's open source, don't worry I still credited you :)

Are these guides kept up to date? This was originally release in 2009 and we all know that 1.0 has launched since then...

I think it's safe to say that papuccino1 has had to leave the hon community for whatever reason.

I'm releasing a third and final version of Oracle tonight, and from then on I'll only be updating a guide repository built into it. Tons of huge features going in, may have to wait a day to see the release though.
Find the thread here. (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?p=1753472#post1753472)

Keep an eye out guys.
