We need people to port guides over to the HoN wiki as well as make their own guides for heros who don't have them yet.

List of guides we have
http://honwiki.net/w/index.php?title=Category:Guides&action=edit&redlink=1

Template for your guide
http://honwiki.net/wiki/Template:Hero_Guide

Please name the page like this HeroName:Title for example Behemoth:Big Bang Theory (http://honwiki.net/wiki/Behemoth:Big_Bang_Theory) is how we want it done. We are fine with having more then one guide for a hero since there is more then one way to play a hero. In your guide try to focus on a single way to play that hero and make another guide if you have a different way to play the hero as well.

Feel free to add things that are not in the template just make sure you use the template so they all look some what the same.

Personally i like the simple looking honwiki myself, that other site is way to clutered at first look and hard to follow. Honwiki is simple and easy on the eyes. Just my 2 cents, nice looking site hopefully it flies :)

I like the simple look to liked it better in white but they are getting the new look to work pretty well. Some one go make a guide you know you want to.

In an effort to get more people to make guides for HoNwiki i am going to write another guide for a hero. the next person to post gets to pick that hero.

Feriluce
08-03-2009, 01:12 PM
Well, very few ppl seem to pick hellbringer, and there is no guides about him on here, so I think a guide on that guy would be great.

Otherwise a blacksmith guide is also needed as far as I can see.

Drasha

will write one for hellbringer but i need a witty name first :)

You can use my Zephyr guide if you'd like.

If I have time I might take the time to format it for your wiki.

Why do you insist on the format? My guides have received very positive response from the community but I'm not going to change the format just to throw them in your wiki. It's up to you.

And gj posting a shitty guide. I doubt anyone is willing to send guides to your wiki now. You are truly experienced in community building.

I'd have to agree. My only turnoff to putting anything on there is the formatting required to adhere to your template. If I could just do a straight copy paste from these forums, it would already be there.

Drasha
08-04-2009, 04:18 AM
Thank you vary much. We are still working on the format if you would like to propose a format that would work for all heros and look about the same for each of them i would love to see it. The idea is to have some thing there even if its not the best thing ever the more you put in place the more other people will add to it. Feel free to write a better guide for hellbringer i welcome it.

While our format is far from perfect the problem with just copy pasting guides is that they will not look consistent. Every ones guide looks different and for the wiki they need to have the same general format. If you have a good format that will fit all heros i would love to replace the one we have now.

Bump!

It was brought to my attention after creating the other thread (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=12034) that we already had this thread with similar content.

I didn't know there was so much negative stuff about the old template in here. :(

The hero guide template has been reworked a bit to be more user friendly.

I see also that people don't want to put in the effort of moving their guides over. Well, I've taken up the task of updating/moving guides over from here to www.howiki.net (http://www.howiki.net), so now all we're asking for is permission to post your guides if you've written any. The content will be left intact and credit given; of course.

The only catch is that we'd like to stick to the template as much as possible. We feel that the basic template includes information that should be in any good guide (hero overview/analysis, skill build/analysis, item build/analysis, general gameplay tips and specific early/mid/late gameplay strategy.) It's always possible to include more information at the end of the template for any other info the author would like included. (For example, hero synergy, other tips, FAQ, etc.) We are open to changing the template if people can give us some contructive feedback to go by.

For an example, see ElementUser's Legionnaire guide that he allowed us to use.
On the forums (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=11992)
And on HoNwiki (http://www.honwiki.net/wiki/Legionnaire:_OMG_WHERE%27S_MY_BEARD)

You can see that the format is changed but the relevant content remains.

Thanks!

Bump again...

I've made some major revisions to the template for the hero guides... it is a LOT more flexible now.
Info can be added in between all the sections. It supports up to 3 builds (in a pretty table). We can more easily add new sections (thinking about a hero synergy section when I get the chance, since that seems popular) by just adding a new template.

I've only had a few people give permission to add their guides to the wiki, and I'm working on adding them, but I wanted to get the format working better before that. We're still looking for more (Especially those of you have write many guides, and the premium ones). If there's a reason that's discouraging you from allowing us to expand the wiki with your content, please feel free to contact me. It's a work-in-progress and I'd be happy to work with you to make it meet your needs as well.

We are always welcoming constructive feedback as well. If you don't like the format, please, let me know why and we may be able to change it up a bit.

Here is a link (http://www.honwiki.net/wiki/Category:Guides) to the current list of guides that we have. They are all currently using the new format. The Legionnaire guide is probably the most in depth and shows off the format the best. It doesn't show off the multiple build option though. To check that out, look at the Behemoth guide.

I've started a new player guide here:
http://honwiki.net/wiki/New_Player_Guide
I'm still working on completing sections and polishing it off. In the process I thought it'd be cool to have a practical overview of all the heroes with comments on which ones are good for new players.

I've started this here:
http://honwiki.net/wiki/Hero_Overview

Do you think this is a good idea/format?

put some glue on it then or it will sink and people will just make a new one. Then again people don't read so even with glue they will most likely make a new one.

The menu in your wiki is bugged. It is below the text. Or is it google chrome doing this?

edit: ok... IE is ok. Chrome is not.

Drasha, I made a new thread because one of the mods moved this one to the archive and I wasn't able to post in it. I guess Nome brought this thread back now though... so Bump...

============

Etdashou, I don't see any issue with the layout... I use Chrome at home (at work Currently, on IE) and I didn't have issues there either.

============

We're still looking for more good guides to post. I've made some more revisions to the guide template making it a lot more flexible than it was before. It should support pretty much anything you can throw at it.

Also, I'm still willing to move your already written guide over to the wiki if you give permission. All you need to do is give me the go-ahead. You can see our other guides here: http://honwiki.net/wiki/Category:Hero_Guides

The behemoth guide is the most up to date right now (though it lacks a Hero Synergy section, which is supported), while the Legionnaire guide is the most in-depth and shows off the customization the best probably.

If you've got issues with the format or something else, let me know. I'm willing to work on it if there are issues with it, but I'm pretty happy with the way it is right now. There were some people in the previous thread who had issues with the format but refused to give any comments so I've had to make the changes that seem most logical based on the format of popular guides.

Please help us build this community.

NP, simply to advise u that Chrome 4 Beta is having a small issue in display. Being an old admin of some Wikis, I know they release frequent big patches that fix this kind of issue.

I think the HoNWiki Modding page (http://honwiki.net/wiki/Category:Modding) deserves a spot on the the honwiki.net main page. I've found myself several times now doing a forum search for picklefish's UI Basics thread because that's not stickied, all to find the link to the modding page. A lot of extra effort for what should be easily available in my opinion.

Actually the entire main page is due for a major overhaul. It has been on my back burner for a while as I have been demolished at work for two straight months. I will definitely finish it this month, and it should have some forum tie ins, as well as much better links to the important parts of the wiki and outside resources.

This need a bump. I don't see why we should help the offical HonWiki if we can't even contribute our work.
I wanted to help this wiki but the already said problem won't let me change anything :/
