View Full Version : Critique my Chronos strategy

I have always been a huge fan of Darkterror in DotA. Naturally, when a friend of mine sent me the invite for the HoN beta, I immediately tried out Chronos. Unfortunately, I have not been as successful with him in HoN. I need some help from you guys.

Here is the build that I currently use for him (the same one I used for DotA).

1. Two Wraith Bands (I sometimes get three)
2. Marchers (bought while i'm building my wraiths)
3. Mask of Madness (Elder Parasite)
4. Upgrade to Steamboots (usually toggled to Agi but changed when the situation merits it)
5. Wingbow
6. Buriza (I don't remember the HoN equivalent)
7. The game never gets this far (I'm either a pwnsaur or food for the other team at this point)... but I would consider a Heart here.

For my skills, I usually get one level of timewalk (which is basically all you need early game) followed by maxing bash and rewind. After those two are maxed, I finish maxing Timewalk. (Of course, I level Chronosphere at the soonest opportunity).

I would appreciate it if you guys could critique my Chronos strategy. Here are the main issues I am thinking about. If you guys could answer these questions, that would be grand.

1. Should I opt for Bracers instead of Wraith Bands for survivability?
2. Should I prioritize rewind over bash?
3. Does getting bracers and prioritizing rewind seem redundant?
4. Should I try Hand of Midas? When should I get it?
5. Does anyone else feel that the Chronos+MoM combo is somewhat underpowered in HoN (compared to DotA)?

Also, feel free to post your own builds/ideas for Chronos.

1) Usually I try to get bracers to melee agi heroes, but in most games you pretty much start with 2 circlets and tree consumables, so depending on your lane you can get either bracers to live up to nukes or bands if you're agains melee heroes. If you can make it without bracers, it could be nice idea to ignore the bands, since you can find something better for thise 1000 gold.

4) If you're able to get it really fast - it owns, but let's say you get HoM like on 17th minute - it would be complete waste, since you'd have to farm even more to get your money back, time is of the essence here. Usually people tend not to get it before 14th minute, otherwise it's better to go for something else.

5) I think mom is just ok, maybe a bit weaker, than dota one, but yet it remains core item for any Chronos build

It depends on how you build his abilities, I find that abyssal skull is quite handy mid-game due to Chronos' low health, and shield breaker(The morph-attack item, I think that's what it's called)... Is also quite handy due to his relatively low damage-output.

1 timewalk, 4 rewind, rest stats until you get the necessary gank equipment.

Chronos' priority in the beginning is purely surviving, if you're using his ultimate to damage heroes, you're doing it wrong. I only save it early game for denying towers and getting the hell out of a gank.

You're also not addressing his low HP, going pure damage just means you die by insta-gibbers a whole lot faster.

And I don't see why everyone gets Elder Parasite on Chronos, you're better off just getting a Hyper Stone.

You know, Vesper25, that strat seems quite viable and maybe even preferable to trying to be an early-game dominator. Chronos is, after all, an end game hero. The builds I see on winning teams in HoN have lots of stats and health the rest is really your creative preference to weapons if the game progresses that far

1. Wraith bands are ok, in a higher skilled game I'd definitely get the bracers.
2. Boots, well, I usually tend to farm/jungle a lot and end up putting off marchers till later.
3. Why elder parasite, you aren't a permabash hero, nor should you be building one.
4. Meh, personal preference / situational
5. Wingbow is good, but I always feel it's a waste to rush as a first item.

Typically I get timewalk at level 1, then max rewind/bash, if I have a fairly easy lane I'll get bash to help with last hitting, rewind for tougher lanes. Always get ulti. I normally farm a quick Whispering Helm (HoD) so I can farm easy in the jungle with my maxed bash/rewind. I normally only come out if I see a teamfight about to happen, and I time my leap/ulti very carefully, trying to land the best Chronosphere possible. In my opinion playing Chronos is more about getting that perfect ultimate off than what items you can farm.

Elder Parasite during Chronofield rocks, and I like to go Hack and Slash for chasing purposes and it works well with the bash when it doesn't maim. To finish it off, I go shiledbreaker.

Depending on whether manta illusions work in chronosphere I would go diffusal -> manta over mask.

When they fix the orbs in this game, this build will be known as "the waste of money" and Hack and Slash is still a waste of money.

You have a stun, a slow and a blink.

If you want a slow, get nullfire. But it aint that great on chronos anyways.. Geomancers bane(I think its called that at least) could be good late game but still, sort of a meh item.

There is no orb-fixing. Orbs are meant to stack in this game as it was a limitation of the WC3 engine and since it opens up to way more possibilities.

Turpinos is correct, and S&Y is not a bad item... not my choice, but not bad.
