Model: Teeming mass of slimy dark red leeches. Attack animation is one or more amoeba like arm(s) that stretch out and attach breifly to the target, wriggling or swelling as they make contact, and spraying blood as the 'arm(s)' retract after each strike.

Concept: Writhing Mass is the creation of a demented Sorceror. It has gained a level of sentience and now swarms across Newerth, drinking from the lifeblood of all living creatures. The Writhing Mass has a high Strength, moderate-low Agility, and moderate Intelligence. He has a moderate-high movespeed, and moderate-low armor. He has a medium-fast attack animation.

Expel Parasite (Active)

Mana Cost: 120
Cooldown: 17/16/15/14

Releases one of the larger leeches that make up Writhing Mass's body. Projectile speed Medium-Fast. Attaches to target hero or unit, stunning for .1sec and draining 90/140/170/200 HP and 0/0/3/6% Max HP over 6 seconds, then returns to Writhing Mass and heals him for the same amount, at the same rate.

Compare to Succubus's Heartbreak. Lacks True damage and takes a while to have its full effect, but has a shorter cooldown and a scaling damage component.


Nauseating Burst (Passive)

8/11/15/18% of Writhing Mass's attacks contain a leech which has an organ filled with putrid bile. When such an attack is made, the organ bursts, spraying the area with the foul smelling substance. Enemy units within the AOE are silenced for 1.5 seconds and slowed by 10% for three seconds. There is an equal chance for this effect to proc every time writhing mass is attacked.

Similar to many on-hit (Pestilence Bash) or on-attacked (Swiftblade Counter-Attack) effects. All numbers subject to change based on your feedback and by S2's balance team, assuming that (hopefully!) this hero gets that far!


Propagation (Active)

The Writhing Mass grows so large that it splits off to form a second mass (illusion). This propagation takes 300% damage and deals 35/50/65/80% damage. The propagation has half the chance to proc a Nauseating Burst (3s Cooldown) as Writhing Mass when it attacks or is attacked. The propagation has the Infestation ability which has a range of 350, cooldown of 10s and gives true sight (but not sight) of a target unit for 6s. The propagation takes 25% of its max hp in pure damage when it uses this ability.

A nice illusion that can help you against stealth heroes if you are quick enough to micro it. Only one illusion, though, so there's a higher chance of single target spells hitting the real version of you.


Thrive (Passive and Toggled)

Each Level of Thrive improves Writhing Mass's other Abillities in the following Ways

Parasite: Increases drain amount by 20 and 2% of Max HP, and reduces the time it takes to drain and return HP by one second, for a total of two seconds faster. Reduces cooldown by 2s.

Nauseating Burst: Increases chance to activate by 2%, increases slow quantity by 2%

Propagate: Reduces the damage Propagations take by 40%, and increases the damage they deal by 6%.

Also

Increases Writhing Mass's Armor and HP regeneration by 1/2/3.

While toggled on, causes Writhing Mass to drop a 150/200/250 hp leech every 9/8/7 seconds, which is neither mobile nor invisible, and has a sight range of 350/400/450. It lasts 20 seconds and automatically flings itself up to 350/400/450 units at enemy heros, taking one second to reach the target location, and proccing a Nauseating Burst upon landing. Can be dodged by moving away from the initial target position. Gives a bounty of 8/10/12g if slain.

A combination passive/toggled ultimate that significantly increases the usefulness of Writhing Mass's other abilities, and also adds a bit of survivability. Has a cool little toggled 'ward' drop feature which is a double edged sword, as it can give bounty to heros with ranged attacks and/or abilities, and can help enemies track you, but can also give you extra vision and slow/silence unwary pursuers.


Item Suggestions

Writhing Mass operates on a few key maxims: Movement Speed, Attack Speed, and Tankiness. Alchemist's bones would help him proc his Slow/Silence, and would help him farm. Helm of the Black Legion would be useful as it is for any tank. Shrunken Head would help him avoid spells which might prevent him from procing his slow/silence. In the Late Game, a good item set for him would be Helm of the Black Legion, Alchemist's Bones, Homecoming Stones, Shrunken Head, Behemoth's Heart, and your choice of boots. Frostburn could also be considered for the Movement/Attack Speed and Strength, and would probably be a good replacement for Alchemist's Bones in that build.

Nice! I like the theme a lot and seems balanced enough. Is the ult bonuses at their max at what you have shown? I hope so, seems like they are well off enough with that being the max. I mean otherwise his illusion will deal 98% damage at lv 3 ult. A little on edge.

I kept trying to post yesterday but my lappy kept closing page when i was halfway through qq

Anyway onto the hero

Concept: Cool, as much as i hate leeches im all for a giant slug monster, he can be slithers BFF.

Stats: I think very high strength and moderately low agi would be more appropriate. When i think mass i think like the blob, borderline unkillable but slow. So like 3.5 strength gain, 1.2 agi gain type thing. I also think slower than average MS 290? would be better as it would seem weird this leech cluster running down a person.

First skill: Great. It has great synergy with theme and roll. A self heal on a tank is always a good, so this was a nice skill choice. My only issue is that if the passive buff from ulti stacks per level to 12% which i am cool with but i dont think it needs micro stun. When a parasite attaches itself to you it releases chemicals to prevent the host from knowing its been attacked. A micro stun i dont think is appropriate, as the heal itself is strong.

Second skill: I like the idea of when you attack him bad things happen, but i dont understand why its a silence. An AoE,
I) Slow/Nuke
II) DoT/Heal
III) Nuke/DoT
IV) Slow/DoT
V) Summon Leeches
I think would make more sense. I think if he is a heavy tank a Slow + something effect would be fun. So as they beat on you they get slower and slower and take damage (maybe stackign DoT). This would make you difficult to kill and a great radiance holder. If they try chase they take the stacking dota damage, get slowed and are taking radiance damage.

Third Skill: Its fine. Was expecting something more exciting TBH tho.

Ulti: A good choice to have a psuedo passive. 4 actives on a strength doesnt normally work (damn you panda). Good ulti, like the leech drop.

All in all a good hero. T-up from me

3s AoEsilence is too much, But I like it (opposite of Scout).

Yet another really well made hero, it combines regular skills (such as bash, HP drain and illusions) with an unique style, improving gameplay. Huge T-Up =)

I agree with yrr_, silence has no sense. Damage is way better, stackinslow/damage would make things really, really funny (and annoying).

And you should change first icon with second one, makes more sense ^^

Writhing Mass's body contains leaches which have an organ filled with putrid bile. Attacks made by or against the Writhing Mass cause these leeches to explode, spreading putrid bile around the area. After 7/6/5/4 attacks made by or against the Writhing Mass, the Writhing Mass performs a Nauseating Burst, silencing nearby enemies for 1.5 seconds, and slowing their movement speed by 10% for 3 seconds.

(Basically this removes the randomness from your skill and punishes heroes who attack you or your illusion or don't attack you and your illusion)

The Writhing Mass grows so large that it splits off to form a second mass (illusion). This propagation takes 200% damage and deals 35/50/65/80% of your damage. The propagation gains all passives (Nauseating Burst) and item effects. Attacks caused by your Propagation afflict the opponent with Infestation, revealing them giving you True Sight of the foe for 3 seconds. The Propagation lasts until killed or until the skill is reused.

(Makes this skill more useful, 300% was to much and it dealing 1/4th of its hp every Infestation was a bit much to)

Passive Effects

Parasite: Increases the initial amount of health drained by 50/75/100 and increases the percentage damage to 7/8/9%.

Nauseating Burst: Causes your Nauseating Burst to deal 45/90/135 magic damage every time it activates.

Propagation: Reduces the damage Propagations take by 33/66/100% and increase its damage caused by 3/6/10%.

Active Ability

Cooldown: 20/15/10 seconds.

Place a 100/200/300 Hp immobile Leach under the Writhing Mass that has a sight range of 350/400/450. It lasts 20 seconds and automatically flings itself up to 350/400/450 units at enemy heros, taking one second to reach the target location, and proccing a Nauseating Burst upon landing. Upon Landing it will fling again after 3 seconds. Gives a bounty of 8/10/12g if slain.

I like the concept.
I think it would be actually quite fun to be ambushed by a ball of ... disgusting things haha.
Beside the silence thing, i wouldnt change a thing.
as they already said maybe a dot/slow would fit better in the role, but its nicely done (:

Thanks for the comments! I'm not sure I want to make the nauseating burst into a damage effect, seems like that could be hard to balance and would kind of resemble Devourer's decay a lot. Perhaps the silence effect will silence the first nearby unit with mana, then only have a chance to silence others nearby. The idea was that if you were gagging, puking, and generally not enjoying the smell you wouldn't be able to talk much (in order to cast spells).

This is by far one of the most interesting and original ideas ive seen for the suggestions. Reminds me slightly of what would happen if devourer and predator mixed. Though Im concerned about the life leech. It may be a bit too strong. Everything else Im cool with.

I like the concept a lot, especially with Passthechips modifications. The only thing I dislike is the current leeches. They can be sort of compared to slither's wards-- except for a few key differences. You can only put one out at a time. They move when enemies get near, which can disrupt the sight you intended for them to have initially. Also, they simply aren't useful enough with just giving a silence, or even a bit of magic damage.

Here is my proposed changes to the leeches:

Writhing Mass spawns a leech at target location within 500 range (so that the leech can be in strategic places). The leech lasts for 20 seconds and has a sight range of 450 units. If an enemy hero comes with 450 units of the leech, the leech pounces on it, dealing 75/125/175 magic damage and slowing the target for 10% for 2 seconds. The leech then multiplies into two leeches at the location it pounced to, each with a new lifespan. They can pounce again after 3 seconds.

This skill would have 1/2/3 charges, a cooldown of 20 seconds, and the rest of the info would be the same. The new skill would have far more utility, allowing them to be more effective semiwards and also useful in team fights.
