This mod adds a bunch of sound effects from the Mario universe to Heroes of Newerth.

It contains the following.
-Mushroom growth sound when you or a teammate collects a rune
-Jump noise when jump abilities/items are used
-Star Power song when Shrunken Head is used
-Pipe sound when a homecoming stone/post haste is used
-Coin sound when a creep is last hit
-Yoshi jump sound when a creep is denied
-1-up noise when you level
-Special noices for UI functions (Login, Logout, Game start, vote pass/fail, defeat/victory)
-Death music when heroes die
-And a bunch more random mario effects

This mod is guaranteed to make you feel nostalgic, or very silly when you wonder why you're enjoying a mod like this so much.

Not at all in my opinion.. You can actually hear all the creep kills, even the ones your enemies get, it's really cool :D

I doubt that is possible since they both use the same sound afaik.

Nope, it's possible. You just edit the effect file and change which sound is uses.

Thanks for pointing out the bug. I updated the main s2z and added a honmod.

Thanks for the honmod Sephinator, I was going to do it but I made this super late last night and was much too lazy at the time :P

Oh, I also toyed around with the coin sound file. I took out all the blank noise, it plays as instantly as possible now.

I can get the first one, but the second one's not going to be possible.

EDIT : I messed around, and catapults and neutrals don't have different sounds for last hits and just regular deaths. I can just change the neutral death sound to the coin, since it's rare that someone won't be last hitting them. But, the catapults aren't going to work. (Unless someone knows where lasthit.effect is called, so I can make the catapults call it) Also, some neutrals don't have any sound effect on death, so I wouldn't be able to do it for all the neutrals.

Also, it still plays the coin sound when the missile HITS creeps. I'll work on fixing that. (Fixed now)

agreed about no sound for enemy getting kills. it should only sound for YOU YOURSELF so that you know YOU got the kill. Visuals are there already, so it's only your own kills that need an accent with a sound.

EDIT : Ok, one of my friends came up with the idea to play the sound when your creep kill score increases. I could figure out how to do this, but I don't know where that variable is stored. If anyone does, please let me know.

Lol maybe you should make a mod with loads of Super Mario sounds. Like maybe when you get a Regeneration rune or take a healing pot you would hear the sound when you take a mushroom? And when you teleport anywhere you hear the sound when you enter a pipe. :D Haha!

Actually, I think it might be possible to get the sound effect only when you get last hits, but I don't know how well it will work. If you look at Warchamp7's Falcon Punch mod, he managed to get sound to only go off if the target dies. You might be able to do the same with regular attacks. Check it out.

That's a great idea. If I could get that to work it'd solve all the problems I have right now. Thanks, i'll take a look at it.

EDIT : Took a look, this is a lot more involved than the script he used for the Deadwood mod. It seems that it just takes the current rank of Willowmaker you have and subtracts it by the targets armor and then subtracts the targets health by the damage it'll do and if it kills it it plays the noise.

To do that with this i'd need the variable for player damage (if it's even stored like that) and even then it would only play the noise on auto attack last hits, not spells.

I think the best way to go about this is simply play the noise whenever your creep kill counter increases, but I need to find out how to call that variable.

the "1 up" sound may not be fitting for denies, but i think it would fit perfectly for getting the last hit on buildings

need to come up with a deny sound.... hm.... how about a single instance of the swim sound?

Have the 1-up sound when you level up! :) Annoying or not annoying, you could always have a disable option for every sound. But I dislike having it for denies, just seems random. Love Grandiose's suggestions otherwise. Die sound, YES!!
What do you guys think of "enter pipe"-sound when teleporting? Oh and don't forget to add the mario "jump"-sound whenever Valk or Zephyr is leaping, or when someone is using Tablet of Command!

You all have awesome ideas, I especially love the pipe sound on teleports and the 1-up sound when leveling (the jump idea is pretty awesome too).

This should all be very doable, so i'll check into it later today.

And if anyone can help out with making the coin sound only happen when YOU last hit and happen when you last hit towers/neutrals/siege I would be eternally greatful.

Nope, haven't gotten it done yet. I haven't been working on this much, been playing Bayonetta pretty much 24/7. So far I have done...

-Pipe sound on teleporting
-Star power song when Shrunken head used (5 second song right now, until I can figure out how to make it based off the duration)
-Mushroom sound when someone gets a rune

I'll be diving in this weekend, messing around with everything until I figure out a way to get the things to do what I want them to.

That reminds me, killing neutral creeps don't seem to play the sound for me. Does this happen to anyone else?

Known issue. neutral creeps don't have a last hit effect like normal creeps do, so I either have to add the sound to their death sound or figure out a way to add a last hit effect to them.

Honestly, I think I might just add the sound to their death sound. It's pretty rare that a neutral creep dies from something other than a player controlled unit.

Thanks for the code, but the issue i'm having isn't adding the sound, it's making it so the sound lasts for the duration of the shruken head buff. The buff is dynamic (starting at 10 seconds, decreasing every use until 5 seconds) so I can't simply make the song last for a specific amount of time. Right now in the version i'm testing I have it set to 5 seconds, so it'll be too short at first but it'll even out after you use it enough, but i'd rather have it always be correct.

What I was thinking is having separate song files (each for 10/9/8/7/6/5 seconds) and then checking to see what the modifier key is.

An unused Shrunken Head would have no modifier key, a Shrunken Head with 1 use has the key "key="shb9", 2 uses is "key=shb8", and n uses being "key=shb(10-n)" uses (only true for integers of 0<n<5) and then play the appropriate song file based on what the key is.

But I'm no programming expert so I don't know if you can actually do this or not

After trying endlessly to get the star power song to work, I decided to give it a rest and try again tomorrow. I got on HoN and played a normal game, still using the test version of my mod. Someone on the enemy team popped a shrunken head and the star power song started playing, and before the 5 seconds were over the guy died, and the song stopped.

*facepalm* It's part of the default code for the sound it makes to stop playing when the buff goes away. I am an idiot.

Anyway, now that I have that figured out it's time to work on the rest of the stuff on the to-do list, which won't be nearly as difficult.

When you say "death sound" it may be that it would have to be replaced for all heroes...

Due to loving this so much.. i have collaborated your files with ones i have created for mario/HoN :D
still doing some more work but what ive done so far is:
added defeat/victory sounds
created a lvl up sound
hero spawn as egg hatching
lets get it on replaced by "hurry up already"-mario

things ive seen bugged:
post haste doesnt use the pipe sound

and last but not least, why i am doing now.. :
mini mushroom sound when hexed
adding sounds as requested in this forum
thinking of new ides to implement

note: better for me to go verboard on mario'ness then consider what to draw back on

Any chance of keeping some of the effects separate? Or toggles? I'm only interested in the creep kill coin sound part myself.
Currently using the old version so that is all I have, but if in the future you end up fixing other issues with it, it would be nice to be able to only get that part of the mod.

I'm using the coin sound on death mod, it's damn awesome. Finally I know when my enemy successfully lasthits.

Hello all once again..
Features:
-mario style death sound for all heroes(who have death sounds)
-all neutrals having coin sound upon death(if they have a death sound)
-creeps having coin sound upon death
-special announcer sounds in game (runes, victory/defeat)
-special sounds within game (some heroes, spawn, lvling up, voting, teleporting)
-special login/quit sounds

Known issues:
-proper sound isnt playing on some occasions(for post haste)

Does it play if neutrals die in fog in your mod?

I have just replaced the death sounds for each of the neutrals, so if their sound played without this mod, then it will play with the mod.
Hope it helped...

EDIT: have just checked, through practice mode and i couldnt hear any coin sounds through fog

ReDsKiN, the work you did to help move the mod along is cool, but you did some of it very differently than I had planned.

Like for the death sounds, I was going to combine the mario sound and the original hero sounds together so both played, instead of just the mario death sound.

The portal key jump sound and deny coin sound are also something I don't like as well, but I know some people wanted that.

I love some of the other small touches you did though (like the cyclone stick sound). So, thanks for helping to update the mod, but I would have appreciated you PMing before doing so.

I was actually thinking of doing the hero death/mario sound, but it just seemed too odd, although the new deaths now is kinda plain.. might as well just try it out (my first impressions were to mux them over eachother, but through further thought they should be timed individually eg babayaga's death sound would be longer than alot of other heroes

for .sz2 just get it from the honmod version ;)
(download and rename it to resourcesXXXX.s2z , where XXXX can be any number) and place into your Heroes of Newerth/game folder

Updates:
-"jumping" abilities been modified so both original and mario sounds are played
-"death" sounds now feature original sounds as well (although some heroes do not have sounds)
-portal key jump sound removed
-deny sound changed (its more noticable now)

Note:
-some abilities times may be off, please notify to be changed for future updates
-some heroes do not have death sounds, or they do and i forgot to add them, so please tell :smile:

For future:
- mario'd up main menu (background) / anyone thinking of a good pic for the HoN main menu?
-any other ideas are welcome too
-ui for mario mod (Bearsmith's quest) :p

I've been around HoN for awhile, looked @ many mods, never downloaded one. This changed that. I salute you sir, this is amazing. Makes farming and denying 10x more motivating. I'm going to blatantly advertise this now because its so awesome.

w00t, epic new patch. :) New cool sounds, especially the win/loss sounds. Sound when match sounds is pretty cool too. The deny sound is ok but it's just so random. Oh and respawn is great!

Something have happened with the Pipe sound on teleporting: usually it played a sound when you started channeling a teleport and one sound upon actually teleporting. But now, it plays both sounds simultaneously when you start channeling a teleport. It's pretty annoying because since it's 2 sounds coming off at the same time it's getting very high in volume.
Oh and about the death sound, can you make it instant? :) When you die in Mario you don't wait 3 seconds and then hear the sound now do ya!? ;)

Something have happened with the Pipe sound on teleporting: usually it played a sound when you started channeling a teleport and one sound upon actually teleporting. But now, it plays both sounds simultaneously when you start channeling a teleport. It's pretty annoying because since it's 2 sounds coming off at the same time it's getting very high in volume.
Oh and about the death sound, can you make it instant? :) When you die in Mario you don't wait 3 seconds and then hear the sound now do ya!? ;)

-deny sound going to be changed to the "jump on enemy sound" (bearsmith's idea)
-working on teleport fix, as normally two sounds will be playing, so might be abit harder to fix
-death sound was muxed in with original hero death sound,so it may seem delayed

please be more specific(with annoyingness and volume), and i can normalise them, although some sounds will have to remain as is


...and yeah we do need to be able to pick which sounds are used. For the meantime just upload the original mario coin sound cause thats what some people would want anyway

from first page dl the s2z file and go to shared/sounds/ui and delete login.ogg and quit.ogg
this process will be harder with the honmod version, as the mod.xml will also have to be edited, so best to just use the s2z

That can be entirely possible, once a longer version is found(for the 2 mins, otherwise just looping) and can be put into next version :D

More stuff for new version:
-changed deny sound, again, now "jump on yoshi"
-fixed the pipe teleport sound (ahh so simple)
-changed countdown timer sound (to fit in with the startgame sound)
-new icon (check my sig)

Possible new ideas (please comment)
-super mario galaxy soundtrack for BGM
-donkey kong kongor:sounds,and maybe textures :eek:

The mod conflicts with basically anything that edits any sounds, including a lot of hero voice mods. For now you can simply delete the file from the s2z or go into the .xml file using notepad and delete the line that copies the file if you're using the honmod version.

I'll add compatability versions for the TTGL mod tomorrow, and any additional compatability mods people want.

all heroes have death sounds apart from behemoth, deadwood, blacksmith, engineer, forsaken archer, maliken, scout, succubis, thunderbringer, warbeast, zephyr and torturer( as they do not normally have death sounds)

Yes, the death sound should play for all heroes. Since just after a day of using this mod I've come accustomed to that noise = someone died.

It will only interfere with any death sound he has, when the mod's released I'll make a version of this mod that works with it (unless ReDsKiN beats me to it... :P)

I've used that for invis, with the normal sound to show the .5 sec fade time, it lasts for 9 secs altogether no matter what, but ill have a look and see what i can do so it cancels when invis breaks

yah doing it now, and i fixed the fa sound bug.. skele's death sound is like a neutrals yet they are given own sounds.. -.-
this now means all heroes will have a mario'd sound (by editing the model .mdf files)
from this im trying to make the honmod version, which might be released a bit later than the s2z version if i decide to have original .mdf files updated, although i can just use the copyfile function if all else fails xD

new update will be available after soundwizard releases his deadwood set, so i can update with that :D (if u want a soundset yet the mario death ensure this s2z will have a higher number than the other s2z) simple eh
If that still doesnt work, please post so we can make a special file for you :P

Anyhow i think maybe the "tree death" sound (when you kill a tree via... anything?) could be changed into something marioish. Just thinking about what to change it into, as the current "tree death" sound really grates on the nerves after listening to it for a few games in a row.

Invisibility should get a sound and really be something having to do with "Boo's" (Mario ghost). Maybe a boo giggle or something.

Also could you stick in the death sound into the rest of the chars? it really does help keep track of things as well as being absolutely amazing.

So far really good job with this mod.

PS: the honmod version will be best, as no need to replace the model.mdf files for deaths...this also means it could cause incompatibility with other mods, via the model.mdf
if needed i can create a special file for the compatibility, though you have to provide the post/link for me, and i will create the new mod.xml (you can add it urself)

Simple to use, gives u pic as one above in previous post, although to do your own, you have to convert your picture into a tga using 32 bits per pixel, for me it didnt work when i converted to 24 or 16.
Also, you have to rename the tga to mario (the easiest way) and open the honmod up using 7z or other applicable and go to ui/mainmenu and just copy it there.
Anyone asking for advanced way should already be able to do it themselves (just edit the mod.xml)

now that ain't too hard :P

hero selection musci wasnt removed, its just that its now playing as music, and not as part of the announcer sound, in background u can hear it
you also might be able to find your sound in mushroom kingdom, i was thinking of doing the multiplayer start one for mario kart 64, this was after i released v8 xD, just gotta wait for v9 now

Any and all suggestions for sounds can be thought of, even if you just want a sound to be played while in HoN and have no idea where it should be, have a think :)

Or better yet (imo), make it play for yourself only. I don't really feel that "doh" feeling the sound brings when I kill an enemy hero O.o, and it gets more hilarious if it's for you only, rather than just being repetitive.
Sound when you kill a hero should be, I don't know, when you stomp a goomba or something?

In theory it's possible, although to actually do it requires much more coding. A new effect file would be created for each hero,stipulating it to play a sound once your end-user hero dies. The actual sound which plays can be debated once the effect file is functioning...

little bit confused...whats the diffenrence between last update and previous version, that filesize didnt in but decreased? im using on s2z file and in charselect menu theres no background music thought i never changed sound options...but announcer can be heared

Yes that happens at the moment, as normally the death sound plays when his illusion dies. Not sure atm on how to fix it though (i'm not pro at XAML coding)

Any sound suggestions? I just got the epic SSBB OST, so many tracks and wanting to add them for BGM.

Also note a UI is being worked on, although its future is not 100%

IF my eyes decieve me yet again and it doesnt work, open up mod.xml in notepad and look for a line which says <copyfile name="shared/sounds/announcer/prepare_for_battle.ogg" /> and delete that

Redskin, I edited my previous post, but you probably didn't see it, so I'm writing a new one. The fix for the Sexy Female Announcer Mod didn't work for me, not sure why. I open v8 with 7zip, replaced the .xml file with the one in your link. Loaded it with modman and tried to apply both, but it didn't work. The one thing I noticed was that the .xml file in the original and the one you provided in your link were the exact same size, so maybe you linked the wrong thing? Other problem could be that I just don't understand and am messing something up...

Another thing to add (I don't know if it's intended or not), but the Super Smash Bros "character picking" music doesn't stop until 10 seconds before the first creep wave spawns. Yeah I found this out when I entered Practice Mode and started the game like 1 minute ahead of the starting time of most games.

Is there some way to make that music track end right when the classic Mario Music Track begins (the one that includes "LET'S HAVE FUN!")? Reason being because the 2 tracks play at the same time if the game is started earlier than you expected it to have started.

I cant be sure, as im not very pro at the coding, i just set it too play under normal conditions.
If you could lead me to some indepth information that would be nice though :P

Should be possible if you force HoN to use an mp3 intead of .ogg/.wav.
And mp3 will not overlap another one.

I had it as an mp3, and the file wouldnt play. It seems you will just have to wait for it to finish

For Everyone: as we have a new patch some sounds may be different, such as Zephyr with no leap... so they will be fixed for next version

MA, the mp3/ogg thing was just that in practice the file plays within start of game too
In regards of abilities, zephyr has a different one, although you could keep it in for his "hop"
This means afaik it works perfectly still

How would you all think if the files were seperated, ie
one honmod for death sounds
honmod for rest of sounds (can debate on seperation)

I'm welcome to sound suggestions if there is something you want to change or something to add. Tested a mario BGM and it was kinda bad, and imo big sound files for music cause really annoying lag spike when they change

IF you are using honmod, open up the package using 7zip or equivalent then open up the mod.xml using notepad++ or equivalent and delete this line:
<copyfile name="shared/sounds/effects/deny.ogg" />
Then reapply the mod and it should be gone

If s2z just go into the package and go to shared/sounds/effects/ and delete deny.ogg

Alot easier to give advice on how to remove then give u new one ;)

Equivalent to notepad++ includes plain old notepad by the way :P and if you're using windows your computer comes with a zip archiver, so there's nothing you have to go and download to edit it.

Using the s2z version I also have the agility only problem in banning pick. Gonna try the honmod version.

I uninstalled all my other mods and tested them one by one, this one is the sure reason BP looks like this.

EDIT: I just tried the honmod version and it works flawlessly. Apparently the s2z version breaks it.

I've just started university, so my mind is fuddled with everything (I'm also in the Fan Media forums too)

I lost some of the sounds I had (including that one) but i'll see what i can do. I know I have a whole bunch of his sounds somewhere on my comp.

My thoughts atm are to release a fix, like using requirement, applyafter and whatnot
Also, the s2z would break it as it edits model.mdf's of heroes, and they haven't been updated since the new patches.

In any case i think ill just have his do do do do do and the sound clip. Is the cutoff after that ok, or did you want it any longer?

As well, someone is making an SSBB BGM for HoN (i hope)in the near future (check the forums). I would've liked to do it, just so much hassle from picking suitable ones from 300+ tracks.

blackAngel's mod uses resources666 yet honmod uses resources999, so the honmod gets preference with alot of files
My first thoughts of incompatibility would be due to them editing the same files. You could rename blackangel88's mod to something like resources1000 and see what happens.

nvm it worked out with just the s2z file =D thanks mate =)

Im wondering is there anyway for me to just get all those s2z from the mod file? so i can manually place em in the folder? So i can have the menu sounds and all the extras 2

I'm not exactly sure what that mod edit's but yes you can create an s2z version of it and make its resources# lower than BA's mod. (Once I take a better look I could make a custom mod.xml)

I love this mod. Altho there were some sounds that bothered me, so I removed them. The sound effects I removed was: Teleport, deny, runes of blight, elder parasite, phase boots, quit and levelup.

I don't mind, actually it gives me an idea. Was thinking to just release the big pack then have user requested mod.xml files. The coin and star power would still be seperate (as they work on all versions).

If any users of this mod have created a custom mod.xml please give a description of what you have done. It becomes great feedback into what is liked/not liked.

I forgot to mention, the "fulll" mod stopped working, the "coin" only HonMod is working for me, which is a plus since it helps me know when people are getting the last hits.

But i hope the full mod is fixed soon.

Thanks to Penance for the fix, I can maybe get some work done for the next version on the weekend, but don't get your hopes up. Also started work for a video, so I might release them simultaneously.

Some updates I have planned are to:
-lower the neutral kill sound, so when multiple neuts are killed the sound isn't deafening.
-updates for newer heroes ^_^
-general sound bug fixes

Any suggestions in want of implementation, could include some OST, other sounds to add within and some things in want of changing, just post here or PM me and I could probably work something out ^_^

i know this is kind of a weird request, but is there a .s2z version of this anywhere or does it require the mod manager? I can't get the mod manager to work on a mac... if anyone has an .s2z version of this epic mod, could you post it? or do all mods now require the .honmod type?
