damn, just barely, probably if i spent more time sculpting the flames and sparks better i would be in 3rd or possibly 2nd, oh well

I know Varmit's piece came from a Prince of Persia stock, so I can't really see what was manipulated. It is probably my lousy eyes, but it looks similar to the stock still. :p

Not sure about Mediocrity's one though. If it was a complete fire manip, then I'd say that is your best so far.

I think SausageEx's one was pretty tight tbh.

Good entries this round.

well i used a render and created the background on the left. did a lot of recoloring/lighting
pasting the render/smudging to create the fire effect around him
but yes it was really simple, consisting of only about 12-20 layers

the results were really close! gj to all

Me either, just because I might have put less work into it, doesn't mean I took shortcuts. I found a nice stock, rendered it and tadah.

how bout for next week, you have to send in the stock used for your image, and on the voting you can include the stock under each one in a link so people can see the before and after and how much work was put into it (if any)

that way all this disputing could be solved before the voting results

yes? no?

Nah, it won't be much use.
Probably the only way this would be obvious enough would be for a Specified Stock theme. We can always do that every once in a while.

It is a learning process I suppose. Nothing is really "wrong" here.

would be pointless, the voting is for how appealing the work is not how much effort was put in

if a sig had only 3 layers or so but looked amazing, who cares how much work was put in

I like this myself (If that counts at all :P), I honestly would have voted for someone else if I knew Mediocrity only resized the stock image for his signature. As a great artist she is, I have become to expect more from her in the past, just high expectations in play here nothing to go drama about (sry) ;)

I never knew I had a vagina.

+also, I didnt only resize the stock...I rendered it out, placed it, and made the rest of it myself. It's not like I copied and pasted it into photoshop as a complete signature.

Well, the artists themselves do.
I know the voting is decided by the public, but I'm sure fellow gfxers that vote or participate in the sotw value skill and manipulation ability rather than a person just finding a good stock.

Yes, I am pretty sure they don't mean a direct copy-paste.
But still, it looks pretty much similar to the stock.
====

All the entries were nice though, both Varmit's and Mediocrity's included.
The sotw is over and the results were in though, so no point qq-ing. We'll do better next week ok? :)

I can post my stock up if you guys want, and you can see what was changed.

Fair enough and sorry for any misunderstandings :)

It's something with your name, I've always assumed you're a she as well, might be the purple-themed signature.

I do, I don't want a person to win who have hardly put any work into his project.

I suppose it's all about what the competition is out after, the most skilled- or the ones who can find the best picture to render a bit. If the latter is the right, you might see me participate soon 8).

Put it like this, If i knew how Mediocrity's original picture looked like, i would never-ever vote on that, however- at first glance, ignorant of the original picture and their similarities, I might have.

*edit* The winning sig, that's War! One of the 4 horsemen!

Yea, good job all the top3, though all your pieces are almost the same as stocks :D not just the prince and flaming woman, but also darksiders ;)
