Activation [Q]

Target Position
Type: Magic
Range: 1200
Mana cost: 125/140/155/170
Cooldown: 15 seconds

Deals 125/175/225/275 Damage to all targets in a line and stuns for 1/1.25/1.5/1.75 seconds. Leaves an impassable mound for 8 seconds.

This skill is one of the best in the game. You can use this to block off lanes and cut off heroes as shown.
http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/5886/beheblock.th.jpg (http://img190.imageshack.us/my.php?image=beheblock.jpg)
This allows you to keep enemies trapped for a whole 8 seconds while they go “Oh ****” and you beat them senseless.

Applies Enraged to self. Adds 50/100/150/200% Base Damage to next attack.

Activation [R]
Self Position
Enemy Units and Corpses
Deals 165/230/285 Magic damage to enemies in 500 Radius around self. Deals 35/45/65 extra magic damage for each additional enemy unit in radius.

One of the most powerful spells in the game. Combined with a Portal Key you will rip apart entire teams with just this single spell. With upwards of 10-15 creeps and 4-5 heroes you will be putting out 1000+ damage to all heroes, stunning and adding on fissure and enrage damage leaving the enemy team wondering why they didn’t kill you earlier.
__________________________________________________ _________________

Item Build:

There is only one item you will need by end game. Portal Key.
__________________________________________________ _________________

Starting Items:

2 x Runes of the Blight
3 x Mana Potions
4 x Minor Totem

OR

2 x Mark of the Novice
2 x Runes of Blight
2 x Minor Totem

These are just two options. Bottle is viable as well. As long as you get some regen and a bit of stats you are good to go. If you go for mark of the novice, eventually upgrade them.
__________________________________________________ _________________

Mid Game Items:

1x Portal Key
1 x Enhanced Marchers OR 1x Post Haste

Use your fissure to set up a few kills early game by trapping heroes and calling for a gank or two. You will learn how to do this with time. The general idea is fire it behind the enemy hero, but far enough back that it doesn’t push him to the wrong side. You want to cut off his escape route along the trees so your teammate and you can begin to bust his skull. Taunting in all chat is optional. I suggest “OM NOM NOM”. The faster you get your portal key the sooner you can begin making the other team cry. There’s no way around this other than well timed last hits and a few hero kills. You may go for a Ring of Sorcery if there is an ally on your team or 3 that can really use it, but it will slow your progression down, however it will help you farm.

__________________________________________________ _________________

Late Game Items:

1 x Frostfield Plate
1 x Beastheart

OR

1 x Sacrificial Stone

What better way to add damage to your portal key than a frostfield plate? Not only is the enemy now stunned, they will wake up slowed and even worse off than before. The beastheart is for a little extra health as Behemoth suffers from low HP if he doesn’t get something to boost it. Your favorite HP item will do, but most of the time you can expect to die after you jump into the fight. As long as you get your ultimate off and a few extra spells you’ve done your job. If you want, you can go for a Stone and when you inevitably die you will return quicker and you will heal your team up very nicely upon your death. Aren’t you a great friend?
__________________________________________________ _________________

Skill Build:
1. Fissure
2. Heavyweight
3. Fissure
4. Enrage
5. Fissure
6. Shockwave
7. Fissure
8-10. Heavyweight
11. Shockwave
12-15. Stats
16. Shockwave
17-19. Enrage
20-25. Stats

Fissure is your best spell, you want it maxed. The early heavyweight/enrage is to give yourself a small extra stun early on. You can max Enrage instead of stats, but honestly, you won’t be seeing much of a difference in damage either way since your spells should be doing the business.

Q&A: Alternatively, Why am I dying so much with Behemoth? Please, Teach me the ways!

Q1: I keep dying before I can ultimate, what can I do?
A1:The enemy team knows your power. You need to stay behind your team and find the opportune moment blink in and ultimate. It only takes a split second, so you may have to bait teammates, but it will pay off.

Q2: I keep trying to fissure enemies, but they go into the fog, what can I do?
A2: Due to the range of the spell, you do not need to click on the enemy hero unless they are very close and you want to guarantee a hit. You can most often guess where they will be running/positioned at and fissure at that direction. It has a wide collision so you will most likely hit them.

Q3: What can I do with fissure besides hit enemies?
A3: You can block ramps, split off enemies from allies, aggro neutrals (this is a rare one to use), and block creep waves. You will come up with more and more inventive ways to use it as you play, remember it has many utilities and is one of the strongest spells overall in game so know when to use it and how.

Q4: Why do I need a portal key? I can just get Assassin's Shroud and run into the fight. It helps me escape too!
A4: I cannot stress enough the use of this item. You can use it to teleport to a fleeing ally and fissure from an incredibly far distance (1200 for teleport + 1200 for fissure). There is no substitute for the speed and positioning of the Portal Key. Since most of the big fights will occur on towers, you cannot afford Assassin's Shroud and it is not very suitable for Behemoth.

Well I hope you've taken something away from this guide. Feel free to comment, but keep it productive. I try to keep the use of the hero and his skills brief because as much as I can write here, you will not truely know how to use him until you have practiced him yourself. The greatest skills you can learn with Behemoth are Fissure blocking and blink initiating.

If there is a typo/missing anything feel free to reply so that I may fix it as well.

Just wanted to throw in my thanks for the guide. I never played Earthshaker in DotA so having this was handy. It's definitely a fun hero to learn to master, due to the power of blocking off lanes / escape routes with Fissure (and setting up Shockwave).

http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/364/behemothstats.jpg

It is very clear that Behemoth has horns, not tusks. Interpretors believe the Behemoth to be either a water buffalo, rhinoceros, crocodile and the elephant, but the most common suggestion is the hippopotamus. It is also said that it even chewed grass like an Ox.

http://www.playdota.com/img/hero/41/character.gif

He is a tribute to DotA's Earthshaker, who is indeed a cow.

And, by the way, am I the only one that miss the "around aoe" damage @ Fissure? Became pretty much harder to farm using a so limited fissure... ^^

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if enrage also affects our skills. For example, enrage (+100% damage on next attack) for a double damage fissure?

Make sure your team rushed in immediately after you teleport, or your string of stuns will be wasted.

Also, I'm disappointed that the guide failed to mention Shrunken head. It's a good way to avoid stunlock after you teleport in.

No mention of Ring of Sorcery? Though I have been playing Behemoth quite a bit lately and I don't like it on him at all; it costs too much. I'd rather take a Bottle for regeneration.

Tryptophan
07-25-2009, 08:13 AM
A Bottle doesn't increase your mana pool to the point where you can go Blink in, Shockwave, Fissure, and Enrage without having to Bottle for mana. That's an extra 380 damage if you Blink right next to them.

There's slightly more delay for fissure and its not as accurate as it was in dota. They have to fix that

Also in dota when you do Totem + Fissure with level 4 aftershock usually the creep wave = gold but not in this one

He's still annoying in this game but its not as good as earthshaker yet

Chrystolis
08-08-2009, 12:36 AM
For the boots decision, I like to go with Enhanced Marchers, especially being relatively new to the hero. At the moment, the phase ability on the E.Marchers allows you to walk through your own fissure. This is EXTREMELY helpful while you're still getting the intricacies of fissure down, and after that, it's nice to be able to move freely and chase down other heroes after making your primary target(s) weep.

With portal key, you can still move around the map (mainly back to town...given that it uses mana..) rather quickly, so while it's not near as fast as the Post Haste teleport, it suffices well enough for me :)

My Itembuild for him is:
2 Bracers, Enhanced Marchers, Portal Key, Frostfield Plate. He doesnt need anything more. Maybe an additional bracer, or later on a behemoth hearth, if your rich. But with Portal Key and Ulti, he just rules every team away. It is a little hard to get enough money through last hitting though. I do not like his slow attack animation.

He really doesn't need bracers to be honest, 2xNulls, 1xBottle, 1xPortal Key and some form of boots is all you need for the whole game, upgrade boots to whatever you want and get a guinsoo after that. You don't need bracers since all you're meant to do is blink in ult and fissure, no point tanking up if you're the one initiating all the time and probably will die anyway.

P.S. for a hard lane you might want to consider levelling fissure and stats at the start, include one level of heavyweight/aftershock before the ult, trust me it helps a **** load.

I like the additional HP because it helps me survive a little longer and maybe getting out 1 or 2 more stuns, after i blinked into the fight. Works well for me. Also the HP are good, to get more and safe last hits early game against a ranged enemy.
But two Nulls are also a good option, i just prefer survivability. But to be honest, i never used a bottle on him...but sounds worth a try.

Think he's an ox and the guide explains this important team hero well. personaly a proponent of: null+branches->ring of sorcery->blink->post haste.->bracer->shivas.

The two things up for debate would be ring of sorcery before blink which probably depends on the level of the game, if it's not a problem stealing whole waves it's a simple decision. The other thing is what boots to get. post haste is very awsome for clearing whole waves in pushes/defs/farming , on the other hand enchanted is pretty awsome allround in this game and gets you through failed fissures (like everyone else :( ), finaly steamboots provide an early door to more hp and gives you a bit more punch to finish people off while the ms handicap is mitagated by blink.

What you should do with Behemoth is go 1 level fissure just for blocking, then max out ur Enrage/Heavyweight. Farm a Battlefury and a Crit, then go up to enemies, cast enrage, and hope your enraged hit Crits. LOL

Patak
08-11-2009, 10:31 AM
I have a pretty hard time farming with Behemoth. I'm the first to admit I need to get better at last hitting but no matter what I do I feel like I'm progressing too slowly. By the time I get a portal key (even if I go for that first after starting items) I still have mana/recovery time issues (portal key doesn't help farming), move slow without marchers, etc. I can't use my AE on creeps because I have a smaller mana pool and no mana regen. So I need a little help.

Should I work on a Ring of Sorcery as first real item and use that for mana recovery so I can use my AE on creeps for better farming? It will delay my Portal key but the farming help should be better all game. This leaves me with no health regen after my Runes run out, should I be looking for some health regen first(suggestions?) and then Ring, and then Key? Marchers before or after Key?

Or should I still be prioritizing portal key and as soon as I get it roam with others for ganks for income? I feel like this is slow, as after any attempt I'm mostly out of mana and have no items to aid in health/mana regen, so it's back to base without marchers slowing things down some more and I feel like I'm falling behind.

Like for example, some people list builds only including "2 Bracers, Enhanced Marchers, Portal Key, Frostfield Plate.". I don't understand how to farm well enough to live with only that, or how to deal with no health/mana regen. Do you just suck it up and make frequent base trips and also spend money on a stone for every trip back? That sounds like it's so much time/money to me, am I missing something?

LeakestWink
08-14-2009, 01:39 AM
Haha, your skill build is all wrong. In order to make maximum use of Shockwave, you need to max Heavyweight ASAP, and for maximum chain stunning, you need all your skills. Ideally you will be able to get a DK at level 7 with this build. In case you didn't figure that out, that means you should build like this:

Fissure -> Heavy -> Heavy -> Enrage -> Heavy -> Shockwave -> Heavy, then max Fissure.

There's no need to put extra points in Fissure early since you should be using it to trap, not as a damage spell. Furthermore, the added stun time from Heavy is greater than that from increasing Fissure. ES/Behemoth doesn't have the mana pool to support spamming it, and Arcane Ring/whatever it is in HoN is for noobs.

Thanks for the guide, it gave me the confidence to try out Behemoth again. I played him a few times tonight and had a lot of fun- Fissure is, indeed, one of the most fun abilities in the game. The number of ways you can use it is mind boggling!

I had problems with getting gold via farming, due to his low base attack damage and lack of a good AoE ability to use on creep waves. However, the kills made up for it.

Your kidding about AoE for creep waves right? Fissure then enrage next to them bam dead creep wave you just have to have the mana to waste.

Im reading that many people find it hard to farm a portal.

Well, there is a guide somewhere in the ''guides section'' that
says how to get portal at lvl 6. I can't remember the poster
but i'l share it coz it's working most of the times.

First if you're legion go to the bot lane, and if you're hellbourne
get the top.

Second, you must find the creep spawn that never spawns magic immunity
creeps (it's the one that most of the people pull at lane creeps)

Third, you must stack it's creeps (just walk at them at x.53 and make
them hunt you away from their spawn)

Forth, when you've got 6lvl and you have stacked 5/8 spawns you just
go there and ulti them.
They will die instantly with your ulti + first skill.
If you played smart and didn't died/wasted monney at uselless things
you will be around lvl 7 with 1900 gold.

After that, just get you portal and start ganking. You don't need boots or anything
else atm. Only a null talisman, portal key and some tps.

Second, you must find the creep spawn that never spawns magic immunity
creeps (it's the one that most of the people pull at lane creeps)

This doesn't exist AFAIK, unless its easy camps or ancient camps, which aren't pullable.

Good advice, otherwise

The medium difficulty creeps spawn the magic immune ones. You need to pull the hard camps.

In hellbourne there is 2 pullable camps top, and in legion bot there is only one, no?

Because I have definitely gotten magic inmune creeps in that spawn.

Both sides have one easy, two medium and two hard spawns. The darker the colour of the spot on the minimap the harder the difficulty. The hard camps spawn the catmen, the vultures and the skeletons. The mediums spawn the wolves, ogres, minotaurs and magic immunes. The weak ones spawn snotters, werebeast things and ebulas.

Edit: Yes, there are two pullable camps in Hellbourne where you can pull the neutral units to attack regular creeps. In the Legion, only the medium camp is pullable. Stacking creeps is different.

The good things about harder spawn is that not only
wont never spawn magic immunity creeps but they
normally spawing packs of 3, which is very good, because
behe's ulti doing dmg based on how many units are nearby.
