Hey there.

Since a lot of the new players (be it to HoN or DotA in general) are frequently asking for an ingame help on what items to get on particular heroes, I've decided to take the time and put up a general and basic itemguide for all heroes that are currently in HoN.

When reading this guide, be aware of the fact that this guide is very basic and mostly covers aspects of Pub-games. Even though most of the item-builds should be very reliable in competitive games (lol) as well.

On another side-note: Since (as mentioned above) I can only cover the basics and HoN/DotA is a very situational game, you might want to adapt your playstyle and items to the enemy team in a particular game. So don't nail me on those items I recommend you to buy. This guide is only a GUIDELINE for you!

How to use this guide:

So somehow you stumbled across this guide, and wonder how to use it? Here's how.

** The first line of items beneath each hero's character portrait / name indicates your starting items. I recommend you to get those items to lane / forest. This first line is followed by a line titled: "Evolving to:" This is how you upgrade your starting items.

** Second line of items is your key-build; aka the most important items you will need in your average game. Priority of items is from the left to the right.

** The third line consists of luxury items. You wont farm / need those items in most of your games - but if you have the gold to get your hands on those - do it! As mentioned above: Priority of items is from the left to the right, so first item in the line is first buy.

Note (once again): Itembuilds depend a lot on your team's heroes and the opponent's. This is only a guideline!

** Heroes that are recommended to buy a courier usually upgrade to flying courier as well.

** If you are sent to solo mid - you will usually get a bottle.

** If you feel like you farmed really, really well you might skip some of the core / starting items (first row) and rush straight to your second row of items.

** ALWAYS try to carry a TP Scroll with you.

** If you are designated as a support hero and you know your role, you know that you'll have to buy wards and dust. If you are unsure about your role: Heroes that are recommended to buy courier usually will buy dust and wards through out the game as well.
Don't be afraid of the money sink you'll have when doing so; the benefits your team gains through you greatly make up for it.
(This is of course only if you are facing invis heroes and/or lack the heroes that got map controlling / revealing skills)

** Should you lack inventory space you can start selling your low-tier items.

** 2nd and 3rd row items are mostly completed recipes. Most of the time we will start buying the components for those recipes in a previous tier of the game.

** Example:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v169/snagg3r/HoNItems/Initiation/item8slash.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v169/snagg3r/HoNItems/Morph%20Attacks/hack.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v169/snagg3r/HoNItems/Morph%20Attacks/hackandslash.jpg

That means you start with a Slash - followed by Hack and completing the recipe for Hack and Slash. It should be obvious that I dont want you to buy Slash, Hack plus an additional Hack and Slash!

** Whenever there is a complete reciped item in any of those rows - you'll buy the single components on your own and in an order that suits your income/farm and playstyle best. Recipes and complete item list can be found here (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=521).

** If you feel like you lack regeneration on your lane, feel free to buy additional runes of the blight / healing pots or start with regeneration items that are part of your recipes.

I don't think a guide should be this generalised. Wouldn't want an int hero going hack and slash or an agi going bloodstone. Even if it's primary attribute specific, there's a pretty high level of variance inbetween the various types of heroes (pebbles/pest for example)

Apologies if I've stolen a reserved slot.

No offense taken, so I hope you will take none when I ask you:

Did you actually read what I wrote?

I could be wrong but I think he plans to do every hero, not just every archetype(INT/AGI/STR). His table of contents has a section for legion heroes and hellbourne so I THINK that's the plan.

This looks like the start of a very useful guide. It can often be intimidating trying to pick out a decent item selection when trying a new hero.
