View Full Version : Biggest Balance Issue - Lack of completeness in hero ports

I have played DOTA at all levels, from EM-junkie newbie to competitive tournaments. I can unequivocally say that the majority of balance issues in this game are due to the incompleteness of the hero base. Part of what Icefrog accomplished that made dota go from 100 players to 100 million was the ability to pick a team that could fight effectively against another team.
Facing zeus? Grab NA. Facing bh/sa? Grab slaradar. Facing TB? ruuuun :P
Anyway, the problem with trying to assess balance in HoN at the present time is that so many of the mirror heros/counter heroes that have been critical to have 2 competitive teams in dota are still not in the game. In HoN, the team that grabs 2-3 un-countered heroes will absolutely dominate for the most part, and when you're playing AP (like 90% of the games are) its a mad clickfest to steal the FOTM OP hero.
I think everyone needs to chill a bit with the cries for nerfs and balance fixes until we see what the final hero selection will look like.
That is all.

They've already said POTM SK QoP and others are being ported. It's not as simple as snapping their fingers and suddenly all the models and animations and portraits and icons suddenly appear. The time will come when they focus on porting the more important competitive heroes and they've already said this.

The game definitely needs Lion and Lich.

Well, what you are saying is not true.
There is no hero that can counter NA actively (besides having tons of HP), nor could you counter Tauren Chieftain.
Furthermore, how would you counter Hellbringer in this game? You can't purge his ulti, his heal makes him literally unkillable and his other two spells aren't bad either.
In DotA, its not like every hero had its counter part, in fact, it's only a very small cast of heroes that can effectively be countered or counter eachother.

Wow, did any of you besides Ville read my post? If not please try again and then adjust your responses accordingly. If it helps, I'll throw the thesis statement back out at you:

its a beta
let them port in the majority of the other heroes, then worry about completeness at the opening version

I think a smaller hero set would actually make the game better long term.

pretty sure TB would suck in HoN, if war beast has trouble jungling then TB wouldn't cut it. They rly have to change creep pulling/jungling to match dota imo :P

Yeah actually that is something that is being overlooked. They've made jungling early almost an nonviable strategy, which should probably be a much bigger deal than anyone has made of it.

I never really understand why people need to state this is a Beta therefore it's pointless to discuss balance and gameplay issues. What do they think Beta is for?

Well some balance issues are fine to go through, I mean that is part of this phase of beta, but the non-stop complaints against certain heroes really need to stop.

i heard they where gona have 60 heroes when Beta finishes.
And yea, some heroes like centaur should be ported to counter a leggionaire.

Uh? I say we need Rotundj'ere
Koreans don't play DotA and there is no official rulebook saying that heroes have to be designed to be unbalanced except against hard counters

Valid point.
The problem with not having a balanced game-play with all these total rookie non before DotA players on the servers (due to a massive handout of beta keys), is that pretty much nothing getīs done in a constructive manner. There is just an awful amount of whining about certain heroes, not the entire base "counter system" we had in DotA due to Icefrogs MASSIVE work.
Tho, a totaly new game = a total new perspective, must be hell for the devs every day pleasing everyone :( Peace! <3

Are you saying that no koreans play dota?
Are you saying that no koreans play dota?
Only North American Koreans play DotA, true story :D
I agree with your OP, btw, but I'd like to see some more thought-out plans from S2 regarding what heroes they plan to port. A mana-burning hero would be nice, but definitely not NA.

You are a failure. Why choose Spiked Carapace to roll your eyes at? Is it because you know that his other skills are amazing?

Since .30 pulling is even easier then Dota for me.
