Devourer

Probably one of the most useful heroes and one of the most annoying ones. One of my favourite heroes to play.

2. Stats
3. Skills

Introduction

Consuming and destroying all in its path, the corpulent, putrid Devourer exists only to feed. No pain can match the agony of its hunger, and so it shrugs off all attacks, spreading its rot and disease across the battlefield like doom itself.

Stats

Primary Attribute:
Strength

Starting Stats:

Str:25(Gains 3.2 Str per lvl.)
Agi:14(Gains 1.5 Agil per lvl.)
Int:14(Gains 1.5 Int per lvl.)

Armor: 1.96
Movement Speed: 285.

Skills:

Gutting Hook:
The Devourer launches his Guttling Hook at a target unit or location. The first targetable unit that touches the hook will be dragged back to the Devourer.
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/heroes/6/ability1_128.jpg
Type: Physical Push
Range: 350 / 550 / 750 / 900
Radius: 60
Cast Time: 1.4 Seconds
Mana Cost: 140
Cooldown: 14.0 Seconds
Required Level: 1 / 3 / 5 / 7

Activation
Deals 100 / 200 / 300 / 400 Physical damage to target and interrupts channeling abilities. Drags the target to self.

This is what makes you. This gives you the ability to hook whoever is unfortunate enough to get hit; dragged back to you.

Decay:

The Devourer allows himself to decay, draining his Health over time and releasing poisonous gasses that both damage and slow nearby enemy units.
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/heroes/6/ability2_128.jpg
Radius: 250
Required Level: 1 / 3 / 5 / 7

Activation
Applies Decay to enemy targets in radius and deals 25 / 50 / 75 / 100 Magic damage per second to self.

Decay Effects
20% Movement Slow
25 / 50 / 75 / 100 Magic damage per second.

Your slow, while dealing tasty magic damage. You want to have this on *before* or after you hook, depending how fast your reflexes are. (For me, I usually turn it on just before I hook because i'm slow =\)

Cadaver Armor:

This grotesque armor increases the Devourer's Magic Armor and permanently adds strength for each nearby hero kill or each kill he makes.

http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/heroes/6/ability3_128.jpg
Passive
1 / 2 / 3 / 4 Magic Armor
Required Level: 1 / 3 / 5 / 7

On Kill
Permanently adds 0.9 / 1.2 / 1.5 / 1.8 Strength to self per hero kill, or 0.03 / 0.05 / 0.06 / 0.09 Strength per creep kill.
Aura Effects
Radius: 400
Target: Enemy Heroes

This is what makes you a ***** to spellcasters. Also gives you a nice strength bonus whenever you kill someone. Yes it gives you strength PERMANENTLY. The magic armor stacks with your items.

Devour:
The Devourer grabs a target enemy and feasts on their flesh, dealing massive damage for every second he feeds.

http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/heroes/6/ability4_128.jpg
Type: Superior Magic

Range: 160
Channeling Time: 0.3 Seconds
Mana Cost: 100 / 130 / 170
Cooldown: 30.0 Seconds
Required Level: 6 / 11 / 16

Activation
Applies Devour to target enemy for 3 seconds or until channel is canceled.
Devour Effects
75 / 125 / 175 Magic damage per second
This ability can be boosted by Staff of the Master.

3 seconds of pure win. This will basically rip your target apart early to mid game. Late game, it's a disable marking the target's demise as your teammates will probably switch to him the moment you hear "Mmmmm, yummy."

Pros:
High strength, especially end game resulting in a ton of health.
Able to save teammates with a hook.
Able to grab a enemy and disable him, taking him out the fight before it began.
Not as item dependent as most heroes.

Cons:
Poor mana pool and regen.

To me, this is the only skill build you will ever need. You want your hook maxed out asap to help in ganks and saves. Following that, decay to slow your victims and your ulti to seal the deal.

Items

Starting items:
I believe that Devourer doesn't need stats as much as normal heroes, so my recommendation is to go with regen/consumables first off.

Item set 1 and my favorite:

http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_TrinketOfRestoration.jpg- 350 gold
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_RunesOfTheBlight.jpg - 90 gold
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_MinorTotem.jpg - X3 - 159 gold.

599 gold used, leaving you with 4 gold.

As a usual pub player, I'm usually laned with another melee and then be up against a ranged hero or two. The regen trinket is to be able to take a few hits while trying to deny/last hit. The runes is for quick regen when you don't want to take the risk. Totems for cheap stat increase.

Item Set 2:

http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_Bottle.jpg - 600 gold.

If your an advanced player, you may want to go with bottle, as Devourer hardly has enough mana for one measly hook early game. This might help in between ganks. I don't recommend it.

Item Set 3:
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_PretendersCrown.jpg X 2 - 370 gold.
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_RunesOfTheBlight.jpg X 2 - 180 gold
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_ManaPotion.jpg - 50 gold
Crowns for stats increase early game, also for making your bracers later on. Runes for regen, and a mana pot for another hook.

Item Build 1:

After your lane phase, try to have 1500 gold before going back. Devourer needs ms fast, so boots are always first. If you died before getting 1500, get marchers before heading/tping back.
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_Steamboots.jpg
Personally, I like these boots the best with Devourer. It gives you str, attack speed and movement speed which you need.
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_EnhancedMarchers.jpg
These are also good. Damage, more movement speed which you need and the useful unitwalking ability. Don't underestimate these on Devourer.

After boots, if you have extra money around after ganking/laning, buy
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_Strength5.jpg
X 2. They're cheap, good for some extra hp and stats.

If you don't have that much money, save up for your headdress, you want this asap.
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_TrinketOfRestoration.jpg
These come first if your laning/jungling more than ganking.
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_MysticVestments.jpg
You may want to buy this first if your up against nukers.
http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/images/items/Item_HelmOfTheVictim.jpg
If you jungle, get this first. The armor and hp regen is perfect for it.

So you finished your Headdress. This reduces how much damage you do to yourself with decay, allowing you to use Decay longer. The hp regen goes well with Devourer and magic armor stacking with Cadaver Armor makes you a tank vs casters.

Gameplay

Early phase:
Hellbourne top or Legion Bottom are your best lanes, they have more cover for you to hide in fog and behind trees for surprise hooking. Don't ever go mid, your a shocking solo.

If you find yourself with another melee, try not to get harrased. You don't want to get yourself killed early, as your trying to get that headdress asap. If you get harrased, pull back for a while, regen. If they push you back to your tower, try to hook them right next to it after the creep wave and slow/disable him with your lane partner.
