Need help with a HoN Trding Card Game project, need layouts for cards!

I already had this thread open before, but some mod decided to put it into completed even though nothing was accomplished at all, resulting in nobody seeing this thread. So i will give one last try.


So i recently thought "why not make a simple and yet advanced card game that basically is HoN?"


Ive put it as my goal, and want to create some cards for fun. Now, what i need help with, is to make those cards. I can use photoshop, however, cant really make the layout for the card (the plain simple card without any text or pictures).


Ive had some inspiration from yugioh, but want to make them different. Now, here is my request:


First off, the hero card.

As you probably see, it will have a bigger picture, because of the fact that it is a hero card. There is a arrow on the left that says that the background has to be brown. I dont mind if there is a special pattern, like the yugioh cards, but definately brown. Do not mind the text. In all of the circles and ovals, dont mind the text. It shall not be there, it only tells you what it will be (even though you cant see it on the picture). So as said, do not add any of the text in. If there isnt a box, there is no box. By the way, when i say raised up, i mean the box gets raised, like in this yugioh card:

The place where the name of the card is is raised up. You can also see a pecial pattern on those cards. The background has been blended with a white-ish color that makes the background look less boring.






Now, secondly, we got spells.

As you probably can see, the background of those are green. The box with the name of the spell and the type of the spell have to be raised up as mentioned above. This is the easiest, since there really isnt much to it. A nice green pattern would be appreciated too.




Third, i got items.

These are blue. They are almost the same as spell cards, the name and types are raised up. However, there has to be a tiny circle at the end of the name. I will need it because the item needs to cost something, and it is up to you how you want to do it. :)

But have you considered ditching the brown, green, and blue borders? The slot where it states the card type is generally sufficient and you'll have more exposure to the artwork of the card's subject.

Will need a more complex layout with layers of varying transparancies, but has a really nice look to it. :3

This is really basic, but I didn't want to invest time on it until I got some feedback on the layout (size of boxes, position, colors, textures, etc...)

EDIT: It looked a lot browner in photoshop lol

I actually really like that Layout. If you could do some patterns on the brown and maybe add a tiny black frame around the edges of it then i think it would look really pretty!

oh and Katie, im actually scared that it would look weird if the artwork is one the whole card, since i not am the one deciding how the artwork looks. Im gonna say that im pretty bad at creating photoshops, innovation is more my style.

And of course im gonna share the cards with you ;)

Here's a first shot on a style I've thought of (I know that a lot needs to be changed/fixed).

Hmm actually i really do like that, being able to see the artwork on the actual background of the card would look nice, but im just afraid that i wont be able to do it for all of those heroes + heroes from the draft section. I do however still need space to put in icons for spells, MS and damage. Maybe the 99 in the bottom left can do for damage and movement speed, but there still remains spells.

It's really easy to fetch the pictures though. Could you perhaps do some "paintjob" on the picture I posted so I can see how you want it? :-)

I suggest to make-draw and post here a new template about what exactly you want to put in the card, more specific.

What do you need in the bottom-left box, and what do you want to have at the top? I can always change it to one simple color, but I just need some more explanation on your ideas.

Well, its basically like AngelQuilas layout, just with a brown pattern and black edges around the card. And the spell and items cards are also pretty clear for me if you look on the sketches. Actually, the item and spell cards are exactly the same, just with different color.

Could you give us measurements? Size of the card, size of the boarder, size of the textbox etc. A drawing with sizes would be great

I used AngelQuilas layout. So it would be nice if you could use something similiar just in different colors it would be very nice.
