View Full Version : Cauterize should apply Sear effect

Fellow Newerthians,

Seeing how Accursed is not picked up at all in the competitive scene, I was baffled because the hero is great in terms of defense. However, Sear being considered a filler skill for the hero, I felt if it could also be applied through Cauterize, Accursed and the skill itself will start holding more value.

This just means that the enemy will be 20% slowed for 2 seconds and if an ally (or Accursed) auto-attacks the target, they will gain Burning Strikes buffs. I think this will make Accursed more flavorful and possibly see more competitive light.

Similarly, if used on ally: "Cauterize heals an ally and cause their next attack to apply Sear on their target"
(Credit goes to Sherwood for coming up with 'the heal also applying sear' part)

What say you? Please list why or why not you agree with this suggestion.

Possibly even make shielded targets apply it too.

I see why not, it is the same scenario has Parasite. Before he didn't apply his passive through his spells and no one picked him, and then when they changed it (along with improving jungle creep cast-times), he became a regular competitive pick.

I'm concerned that this might encourage him to use Cauterize offencively. There's this problem anyway in Pub-Play where players are reluctantly supporting. A heal on an Ally is often more beneficial than nuking down an enemy. Humans lack the skill of clairvoyance and thus cannot see if they will have to heal in couple of seconds.

How about, keep the original suggestion, but also, when you heal an Ally, the ally's next attack will apply the sear debuff?

Keeps the original choice of Cauterize (damage vs healing) and keeps Accursed relevent as a support.

But IMO the real problem is the fact he has no assured ranged assist tagging other than offencively using Cauterize and he needs farm to apply Sear. Even with this change, he will still be underfarmed compared to other supports. (see the suggestion in my signature; now in archive).

- An Accursed player.

Applying it to the shield would make him op, imagine that the shield hits 5 players in a team fight and everybody gains extra attack speed on all of there heroes?

or am i missing something?

Cauterize is heal (or single-target nuke) and not fire shield. I do agree with Sherwood though, healing an ally should give him Sear passive too, but if we look at Sear mechanics I don't know how that will work.

Just for reference: Sear passive on Accursed is permanent, whenever he attacks an enemy they get the debuff for 4.5 seconds (which is primarily a movement speed slow). During this time, if an ally attacks the same debuffed target, their attack and movement speed increases. Looking at this, I really don't know how you would apply Sear on healed allies, will they get Accursed passive for a little bit. If so, for how long?

I meant the ally would act is if they were accursed for the next attack.

Accursed heals Forsaken Archer. Forsaken Archer auto attack enemy Thunderbringer. Forsaken's first attack and only first attack applies the Sea debuff on Thunderbringer for normal duration.

Think of it as Revenant's Attack modifer buff, but with only 1 charge.

I think to put it in plain English; "Cauterise, Heals an Ally for x. Ally's next attack applies Sear to the target". in addition to "Applies Sear to the target if an enemy".

OK agreed. Will put it in the suggest verbatim (and give you credit).

Thanks!

Why not? I'm game for a little Accursed buff that makes sense.

I should really visit suggestion forums more often. This would be a well deserved buff imo, thumbs up.

This would be a great buff for Accursed. The amount of times I restrain myself from using Cauterise on a fleeing enemy, because the cast time lets them get farther away.

So there I was browsing suggestion because I had an idea and wanted to see if someone else thought so too, and what do I find? An epic Accursed suggestion! Man I have always wanted Sear to interact with Cauterize at the very least!

great idea, might encourage people to spam it, instead of saving it for kills
