View Full Version : HoN can't read my OGG files

I have made multiple small sound mods before, but since I built a new computer and reinstalled Audacity, HoN says "Cannot read file" to the OGGs I make with it. I can't find any difference in the OGGs that should make these unreadable.

This is one of the mods I attempted to make that does not work. Can anyone figure out what is wrong?

Thank you.

I'm not entirely sure, but i think there was another guy some time ago who had the same problem.. Turns out Audacity apparently did something to the files that made them unplayable.. He went through the files he made with an hex editor, changed something and made em work again.. I can't seem to find the thread :/

Thank you for your reply. I can look into fixing them with a hex editor. Perhaps it is something Audacity started doing recently with an update or something, because I used Audacity before on my old computer, where I managed to make mods without problems.

I checked, and the newest Audacity version was released 11 days ago, so I installed the two earlier versions, 2.0.0 and 1.2.6, but both gave the same result as before: The sound I tried to modify simply did not play, and the console printed

Error: CFileManager::GetFile() [/heroes/legionnaire/ability_04/sounds/impact.ogg] - Could not open file after loading the game. I am positive it is not the archive the file is put in, as I have already tried to put it in an archive of a sound mod that does work.

My suggestion would be to try an even older version, if you have the patience to do it you could try going 1 version back for each try?

I might end up doing that, even though I'm sure my old install of Audacity wasn't older.

Just made a announcer mod recently and I can say with absolute certainty that HoN can indeed play ogg's. Hope it helps.

Thank you for your reply. Do you mind telling me which software you used to make the files? Perhaps I can try out the same software, if it was not Audacity.

Actually I didn't make the files myself, but I can get back to you after I talk to the guy?

If you would, I'd appreciate it.

If you want you can post one of the broken files here we could see what is wrong with it and if the problem is on your hon or the file itself :-).

I think the MIME type from your .ogg files may be diferent and been converted on a diferent type of .ogg that is not yet suported by hon.

Thank you for your reply. The broken ogg is in the s2z archive from the original post.

.ogg is the format that most HoN sound files use, btw (to save space & loading issues and stuff)

Thank you for your reply. I suspect my title has been misleading. I meant that HoN did not load the OGG files that I created, not OGG files in general.

Edit: I have changed the title

Just save it as a wav and run oggenc on it.

I know I am bumping a really old thread here, but I thought I'd leave a solution to anyone who might need it in the future.

I tried making another sound mod today, and I eventually came to the conclusion that it is NOT my .ogg files that are the problem, but rather the archive that they were placed in. I still have no idea why my archives don't work, but if I placed the files in documents/Heroes of Newerth/game/ all my troubles were gone.
