I know this topic has been mentioned a few times, but I can't find the threads now and I don't think I ever understood the actual answer to this question.
If three friends are on a team, and one goes afk for supposedly "legitimate" reasons saying he will be back. But after 15-30 minutes has not returned and obviously the two friends will not vote kick the friend, stopping the team getting their items and extra gold, and also preventing the afk player from receiving a possibly well deserved Disconnect. Is there any punishment for the three players? Can any receive a ban? Can the AFK'er at least receive a disconnect?!
It just seems terribly unfair that the two other players have to then sit through a 40+ minute game, which is almost a certain loss, because the afk does not get kicked stopping the slight advantage a team would usually get if one did disconnect (gold + items), and secondly because the two friends of the afk'er often do not try as hard, usually claiming the AFK'ers abilities are required to win...
Is there a rule that covers this topic, or does it simply vary depending on specific cases?

Hello there.
Quoted from the Code of Conduct.
AFK Abuse / "Avoiding AFK Detection" / "Illogical Refusal to Participate"
What is AFK Abuse?
The AFK detection system is designed to allow players the opportunity to remove allies who have stopped participating, reclaiming gold and items to better help them continue the match. AFK Abuse is the act of no longer participating in the match while simultaneously bypassing AFK detection.
Examples of AFK Abuse
Periodically moving around in or behind fountain to avoid AFK detection
Periodically leaving the base without intention to participate or help the team
Intentionally damaging self or activating spells/items/abilities to avoid AFK detection
Moving around/through trees on the edges of the map
Farming continuously without intending to help the team (particularly when base towers/barracks are being pushed)
Going AFK with the intention/knowledge of having a friend who refuses to vote kick you

I think this category was made for ALL 3 players, not only for the person who went AFK.
Make sure to report all 3 of them (I hope you have 75 Silver Coins)

you're only allowed to report the person who went afk. his friends are allowed to vote yes or no to whatever they want. the other guy doesn't have the right to go afk knowing that his friends will vote no to kicking him though.

Player A goes AFK. Player B is a friend, and refuses to vote kick.
Player A is guilty of AFK Abuse.
Player B is innocent of all charges.
Please report accordingly. =)
(note: For these cases the GM will do a cross check of the accounts involved. We can verify without question whether the AFK player and the down-vote player are friends. There are rare cases when a complete stranger downvotes the kick; in these instances the reported player will be innocent.)

Didn't know about it.
This wasn't specified anywhere though. That's why I made such a mistake. It's always good to learn something new about what you are interested.
Thanks and Sorry.

I thought it was included. Sorry for the confusion.
Just added the following to http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?396388-What-is-Griefing-Demystifying-the-Rules-of-Conduct-and-Common-Reporting-Mistakes
Refusing to kick an AFK player, even if that player is a friend
