View Full Version : [Graphics] Reflections bugged

This is how reflections look for me since last patch(mid wars one):
http://i48.tinypic.com/2h3v4oh.png
This is how they used to look:
http://i49.tinypic.com/11joufd.png

How to replicate(for me):
Start hon, then mm game.
However, if I will start hon, then practice mode first, then mm, bug WON'T occur.
Checked with and without mods.

I am using windows 7 x64, newest drivers, hd4850, maxed out settings. I doubt other specs make a difference.

Fun fact: Accursed alt looks badass with this bug, like his armor is made from silver scales.

Totally offtopic but picture of accursed please.

Unfortunately I can't spawn accursed alt in practice mode cause I don't have it, I know how he looks because my friend uses it a lot. I will make a screenshot asap, and that will be when he is online.

StartCmdClickPos SpawnUnit2 Hero_Accursed 0 1 1

That'll do it

My friend doesn't use mods at all, and he too had this bug. HD6370M, win7 64bit. Happens on A8-3850 APU too, but I don't know whether my friends have newest drivers or not. Above screenshot was taken from public game(if I start practice before normal game, bug doesn't occur).
Also, it looks AWESOME in motion, as accursed sparkles and shines and everything.

I can't reproduce on my system - can anyone else try?

TurboHydra

I will ask my friends to update drivers(if they don't have newest yet) and try again. Will that be enough?

I will play with Antialiasing later, and options in general(like set mid, then set high) to check if reapplying them fixes this.(Tough if it does, it will mean I wasted your time -_-').

edit: tried changing settings, same effect. If I start mm game, reflections are bugged. Starting practice mode, then normal one-reflections work as intended. The only thing I didn't try is reinstalling the game, which I will try later tonight. Should I delete some files manually(like idk, shaders cache)?

edit2: reinstalled hon, reinstalled drivers. Still occurs

edit3: Looks like me and my friends aren't the only ones. http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?424588-Why-are-certain-objects-in-my-HoN-quot-discolored-quot&p=15124951#post15124951

I'm getting this same thing.

Oh and I guess I should point out that sometimes it doesn't occur right away, but might start happening as I start my fifth game or something.

Not exactly sure when it starts happening or why.

Okay so it's definitely running out of memory.
http://www5.picturepush.com/photo/a/8356833/img/Anonymous/shot0320.jpg
Note however that the amount of heroes required before actually running out is very high... did HoN stop unloading assets after games?

TurboHydra

Inomares, this is not the same(picture with lots of heroes). If you look at rampage, he is indeed without textures, but he reflects the sky and surroundings like he should. In case of bug I described, there is a checkboard instead of some sort of normal reflection. You can see it clearly on observatory lens.

True! The Graphics Now Look Kinda Bad! I Hope S2 Returns Them To Normal

I know, it just depends on in which order everything is loaded and hence what will start out without textures, it is the same thing. If I'd loaded the map again the creeps would've gone silver-y and the observatory would've gotten checkboxes, I get this every day, I know what it looks like:)

EDIT: What I'm trying to tell you is that they're related :P
EDIT#2: Hmm, though reflections can be bugged the first game in...

Got the same problem as OP.
win7 64, HD 6850, max settings. Not using any mods. Been like this since midwars patch.

TurboHydra

Contra, did you try starting practice mode before playing any game? If so, did it "fix" the reflections?

Inomares
06-02-2012, 11:47 AM
Starting a practice game first does actually seem to prevent it from happening, though I've only been able to try it a few times.

BUMP
Got exactly the same problem - the game runs normally smoothly and on some reflective surfaces it is almost unnoticable, but on the observatory and water it is clear and very annoying!
It is true I used to get rid of it sometimes and couldn't explain how, so maybe it was indeed after practise! Will try when I get home and also post my specs.

I really hope this will be fixed soon - after updatin my PC I was really enjoyin the full grafics, but now it is spoiled by this "detail" :-P

Also as far as I can say, the OP's and mine bug is not (exactly) the same as Inomare's...

TurboHydra

Inomares just pointed out there might be a corelation between this bug and the amount of loaded textures, and showed what happens when there are too many loaded. His intentions were good. Are the bugs connected, I am not the one to judge.

Yep, tried going into practise mode first and indeed it did "fix" the problem.
Also changing to OpenGL seem to work but I rather use dx9 as it seems faster.
Hope this will get fixed soon.

So I can confirm what has been said so far:

The practice mode makes this bug disappear and all other consecutive normal games are OK too! In my case even when I restarted HoN!
The bug occured again only when I restarted the whole PC.

As you can see I use some modes, but I also tried it without them with no change.

I can confirm that people who are facing this problem use DirectX 9. I've faced this issue too so I changed my Video Driver to OpenGL and it solved the problem for me. To all the people facing this issue, go and try change your Video Driver to OpenGL under the Graphics section and it should solve the problem for you. However I can't guarantee that it will work since I don't know about the people who tried doing this.

I get average 55-60 fps with maxed out settings and directx 9 renderer. In opengl mode it drops to around 30 and less, and is considered unplayable by me, especially when in teamfights fps drops to around 7-10. So it is not a solution unfortunately. OpenGL is either not optimized right, or drivers are not made well(M$oft fault for monopolizing OS).

Offtopic: MACs use openGL as their main renderer like linux OS? or something different?

EXACT same problem as Hydra and all the other guys!

Please S2 games, fix this whenever you can :)

Will be highly appreciated.

The creeps make my eyes sweat and it's not really cool for my health :F

Thanks in advance and I hope a bug fix is soon to be released :)

ha, i got this too, with the reflections. with opengl works fine, but with great fps drop, directx9 got the reflection bug.this began to happen after the patch s2 changed the graphics(1-2 months ago).
Using a laptop,intel core 2 duo,3 gb, gf9600m gt, all drivers up 2 date, win 7 64bit.

huh, I usually never get more than 30 FPS :(
OT: If this is of any help, I usually get this when I don't close my game for 3-4+ games

Just posting to say that I'm having this problem too, and didn't even realize I had it till I read this thread. I did notice something weird with one of Ramp's alt avatars, like it was too shiny... but I thought it was just that avatar and not a major problem. After seeing this thread I checked the Observatory and sure enough I'm seeing a checkered pattern. I too would like a permanent fix as opposed to having to open Practice Mode all the time, or switching to OpenGL.

It seems like this is a memory problem, but team creeps have it (for me) even when it's the first game. Practice mode fixes it, but public games do not.

Yeah I certainly don't see it fixed-- I still have to open Practice Mode prior to playing Match-Making if I want the problem to go away.
