Hi,
finally i managed to finish that application that should replace the script.
It is written in Java, thus it's OS independant, you don't need Internet connection to be able to run it and is much faster.
More info and download here on my fansite:

I hope you will like it. Feedback is welcome.

can't you make an *.exe* ?
only language i know for making ".exe" files is Delphi. unfortunately, i am not very skilled in it and when i tried to code such program in delphi, it didnt work.
besides, ".exe" files cannot be run on linux.
why don't you use the internet version? can't you acces internet 24/7?

yes, post it here. more programs, the better.
it's just shame, that S2Games do no care about fans and their projects at all. well i know there is for example a competition on XFire, but what about supporting fansites, translations or at least sometimes reading the forum?
with this attitude, HoN will be the same failure as Savage 2 :/

It will, but I'm sorry there is a lot to translate in my german translation. I still need to translate 5 heroes for the newest version.
But then i try to finish my program.

Will this be updated?
if you mean the script - yes, it will.
i uptade it every time a new patch comes out. however, 0.1.59.1 brought just some minor changes, it didn't add any new lines, so there was no need to update the script. 0.1.58 works fine so far.

but the new heroes?
tomas666
11-28-2009, 06:09 PM
but the new heroes?
yeah, there is a little problem - but it's not the script's fault.
the patch before the last patch contained some commands for forsaken archer - but it was just blank space. i am not sure if you can understand me :D so here is an example of what i mean:
Ability_ForsakenArcher1_name Crippling Volley
Ability_ForsakenArcher1_description Ability_ForsakenArcher1_description2
Ability_ForsakenArcher1_effect_header
Ability_ForsakenArcher1_effect_header2
Ability_ForsakenArcher1_tooltip_flavor
Ability_ForsakenArcher1_IMPACT_effect
the script won't show you these lines, because they are already in your file. they are just not translated.
but maybe when i have some time, i will update the script to fix such issues.
there is just one thing i would like to know: how many people use my script? did it help you or is it useless? it's quite helpfull for me, but i had a look at google analytics and not many people use it...

because my notebook has broken, i cannot use it till it's fixed. i rarely get to use another PC, but HoN is not installed there (and cannot be installed there), so i cannot get to the .str files. for another week (maybe two), this script will work for the 0.1.59.1 version. if you want to compare your files to any newer patch, you will have to wait...

One problem is that most of these translations seem to fall apart. I think that there should be someone to collect good translations and send them on to the devs (or have a premium section like in guides). However, knowing what's "good" is very hard with so many languages. Perhaps some sort of voting system. If you have any suggestions about what to do, let me know. I know this forum is pretty much abandoned by mods, and I want to try and change that.

i update my (czech) translation every time a new patch comes out (except for the last one). i made a survey on the czech fansite (which is not on the "community links" list :/ ) and more than 90% of players who use it like it. rest doesn't like it - one of the reasons can be the missing characters (problem that occured several months ago, but devs do nothing about it).
i can assure you this translation is much better than just "good" :D and i will update it, if S2Games show some support. czech flag has already appeared in the main menu, but it is still gray...

sry for not updating script, i was unable to update it, it's too complicated to explain :)
however, i wrote a java application that works just like the script did, only thing you need are the original and translated .str files that will be compared. it's OS independent and you dont need internet connection to run it.
i just need to improve design a bit and add some more function. i will publish it this evening (in several hours if you are not from europe; i am too lazy to convert time from my time zone to GMT :D)
i hope you will like it :)

i have a lot of problems with the application :/
it doesnt work for entities_xx.str, sometimes it's quite slow and the progress bar doesn't repaint. unfortunately i dont have much time, i will take another look at this in a week (hopefully a little sooner).
Take your time :)
We know it will be impressively useful when it's done.

i have reworked the application a bit, design is much better, there is a progress bar and the GUI doesn't freeze anymore. also, name of the original file is set automaticaly (you can change it of course) based on the name of the translated file.

no feedback? :(
no feedback? :(
Don't feel bad, I love your appplication :D It does everything I want... The only problem is the one you point out in the website, no errors, no crashes, it's really good.
For the "problem" can you try to make it check every dunno, the first 16 characters per line, and if there is nothing, and the original have something, then print that line?

It shouldn't be very difficult to take care of that problem, on Friday we have holidays at school, so I will take a look at this.
Wow, this sub-forum is really dead, why no one read this topic?
Btw I suggest naming the application: Line Finder
I want a moderator to come here and delete the old posts and change the thread name to [App] Translation Helper... at least -.-

Oh, yeah, that's true... I always write 2 words and find them with Ctrl+F so I never use to copy. But it's true, you can't copy with hotkeys and the Copy to Clipboard button is not working.

maybe check the source of button.
It should be:
final JTextArea jt = new JTextArea();
JButton copy = new JButton("Copy to clip");
copy.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
String selection = jt.getText();
StringSelection data = new StringSelection(selection);
clipboard.setContents(data, data);
}
});

Updated. Sorry for the delay, I was busy beta-testing HoN :)
Changelog for version 1.1:
- renamed to "Line Finder"
- design changed a little bit
- number of missing lines is shown
- fixed the "Copy" button
- now you can check for empty lines; this feature is optional

what do you mean by that? how should it correct those empty lines? it finds them, it's up to the user to translate them...
I can help you to do this..
if you want, i can send you my source files and you can edit it and improve this application. but imho it does everything it's supposed to do and i can't think of any more features it should have.

If my thought is right, you can do a check if the line is empty then ....
Ugh.. sorry, but Copy is still not working -at least for me- I'm using Windows 7.
If I use Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V it only copies the first letter... and Copy to Clipboard Button does nothing :(

I know that Ctrl C/V is not working (that's not a bug, it's a feature!). As for the Copy button - I dont know what to do - it tried both 'jTextArea1.copy();' function and that solution described a few post above - both of these procedures work fine on my computer.
In the next release, I will make the TextArea editable again. You will be able to change results, but you should also be able to select the text and then Ctrl C/V it.

because it's in Java...
Typical java bash!
Its not the fault of a language if a program has bugs / problems or is slow! If you code bad in asm or c++ the program runs slow and has bugs too!

Why do you need an .exe?
fact most people like much more .exe, because it is executable,
.jar , .bat etc, people are not accustumed I think, but I know it is the same for most computers
I just wanted to try to port it, just as challenge for me :D
he said he was going to send me the source code, but nothing :(

Simple solution. Handpick someone as "-xx- project manager" and let him/her to chose the right one for you. I believe you can find many volunteers to do the job. I'm aware of the fact that this idea has it's pros and cons. But it's beter then waiting for a miracle to happen.
