is pebbles a good pick in competetive games ? right now im only playing publics and seeing which heroes i like and are good at.
Pebbles being 1 of them so was wondering if he would ever get picked in comp HoN.
Watched a few matches didnt see him. searched as well, didnt find anything.
So excuse me if this has been posted before. but i cant seem to find the post if it has :)
thanks in advance

He is very often picked in Dota competitions.
Awesome stun and multifunctional throw... good players really rape with him :)

I have seen him very few times in competitive Dota, but never in a HoN match. I guess he is a very situational pick, but most of the time there are better picks.

delay on both abilities is too long to be competitive

If your lineup can fit him in, he's not a bad pick.

You should probably stick to pubs if you think Tiny isn't competitive..

Pebbles is a gooooood pick. He has a massive aoe stun and can instagib people!

Pebbles is good, but fills pretty much the same role as behemoth, magmus, pharoah (kinda) and perhaps even kraken (but that's kinda a far fetched comparison): they're all tanky "support" heroes capable of initiating/dealing big damage in teamfights and being helpful in ganks.
So while pebbles in itself is not a bad pick, most of the time one of the other heroes will fit better in the lineup. His main problem is that he is always either limited by mana or by cooldown time, more than his alternatives.

I've got to say, I don't see Pebbles fulfilling the same role at the others. Magmus and Behemoth are weaker gankers, but stronger initiators. Pharaoh fulfils much the same role as Tiny - he's a ganker who can initiate.

He's very hard to play effectively in a competitive setting, I have seen him around 4-5 times in scrims/tournaments but have yet to see someone play him well enough to win.
He really relies on his nuke combo throughout the game, and it's huge damage potential advantage fades quickly. Basically he's used to gank the other team into submission, but one small backfire and you could possibly have just lost the match.

He said that Pebbles skill delay makes him unusable.
Tiny has NO cast animation. That's one of the things that makes him insane.
I'm not sure if the cast animation on Pebbles makes that big of a difference, but it just might.

Well if you can manage to farm a portal key then you are good. However, this can be a bit hard in competitive play because he farms about as well as behemoth..and has mana problems as well.
He's banned a lot and when he's not banned he's usually picked. He has an amazing aoe stun an amazing combo, an amazing initator, an amazing tank, an amazing hero. If you are good with him you can wreck another team with ease.

Are you speaking from personal perspective, because I've never seen Pebbles banned.. Ever.

"very often"?
He's picked in about 3-5% of the games...

IMO, playable in competitive, not common though.

i have seen like... 2 higher end games with him
maybe less
but i've played against more than a few good pebbles.
it's like pudge in dota, not an everyday pick, but there are players that win games with him.

he's not used often but given the right lineup he can completely annihilate a team, just a niche hero but definitely a powerful one

Yes, until the "very often" is backed up i cba. Hasn't seen the light in a single game of the bigger EU tours recently from what i've seen.
Haven't watched that many games except the later stages of the asian ones, didn't see him there either though.

Not first pick, but he can do some damage with Pyromancer...

This. Reduced cooldowns and he would see a lot of competitive play.
Shitty hero. Anything he can do can be done better by other heroes. Mana issues in the lane. Dominating phase of the game is too short. Completely worthless end game.

Define competitive
He is super situational, and rarely picked.

Makes a great lane with nymph, but else aint that use
I have never seen pebbles been banned...
Some of the most frequent picked heroes are never banned.

In competitive with BD, after strong support like Demented Shaman are taken, nymphora is usually taken. And if you've seen a good peb+nymph in a lane... damn.

I would choose Tiny only if:
A) My team needs a full-time ganker
B) My team needs a somewhat ok initiator
C) The other team has many squisshies

He's definitely competitive, but, at the same time, he's very niche. It completely depends on the bans that occur.

There was a time back when Tiny was considered a top tier competitive pick, but now he's more situational as the metagame has shifted and refocused, the same can be said of a lot of heroes. Pebbles is inferior to Tiny though, so I'd never pick him early. Depending on bans and such he can indeed be pretty decent.
But again, the same can be said of a lot of heroes.

How are they different? I haven't played dota in a while and i figured they were pretty much the same

In my opinion, when some top tier teams get more confortable with the ganking style (the only real agressive play i've seen so far was from FFS) pebbles may become an option. But for now we'll still watch the boring 1-2 heroes ricing and 3-4 ganking, or turtling.

Tiny has literally no casting time. He does not have to stop to cast chuck/stun.

Tiny died in dota after dagger nerf.
