Forsaken souls

It was dark and storm clouds rolled overhead as night fell on a tiny town on the outskirts of Caldavar, a young man was outside his home watching the clouds while chewing on a small bamboo stalk. He was of slightly above-average height, with a lanky frame, dark hair and even darker eyes. The young man stood and ruffled his already messy hair as he decided to get inside to avoid the coming storm, he was an apprentice blacksmith and so retired to his forge to complete repairs on the swords of the legion blacksmiths who had shown up earlier that day-looking tired and terrified, it was not his job to ask questions, he was only to make their dull swords as sharp as he could again and collect his pay, with that thought, he banished any thoughts of why the soldiers were looking so frightened, why there were so few of them and why they weren't with King Jeraziah's army. He was done with about fifteen of the rusty, dull swords the soldiers brought in to him, he was about to start on the ten remaining when She came in as she always did, always at this time to remind him to come in for supper, always grinning at him with that infectious smile of hers, always reminding him of what he could lose if the war continued any longer.

"You should really eat more, you look like the tiniest gust of wind could pick you up" Ifi said as she poked him with her fork

"Fine, fine i will" he replied wearily

It was like this everyday, normal, peaceful, fun, he was aware that good times never last,he was aware that he shouldn't get so attached to her, but he couldn't help himself, he was smiling,he was happy,he was content. He returned to his forge in high spirits, for someone who couldn't even remember where he came from, what he did, who he was before he came to this village three years ago this life was excellent, he could only remember his name, but the girl and her parents who were alive at the time took him in and treated him as family, he was eternally grateful. The girl's father instructed him in smithing and when he passed away left the forge to him, reminding him to always take care of his daughter and home. He was done with the last of the swords and retired to his room to sleep, Ifi would come in soon as she always does under guise of being scared and slip under the blanket next to him, thinking nothing but pleasant thoughts, he drifted off to sleep.

"GEN!, GEN!, WAKE UP!, GEN!"
He woke up at the sound of her frantic voice, he wondered what was going on, Ifi was yelling his name, her eyes wide in terror. He stood up suddenly and asked what was wrong.
"MONSTERS! Gen, just after you left for the forge, i decided to go down to Old woman Mary's place to keep her company, but as i neared the village, i could hear screaming and some laughter that can only be described as evil. I decided to go closer, but i spotted these red horned monsters, they weren't beastmen Gen, what are they? Our home is Detached from the village that's why we are safe for the mom..."

Her voice trailed off suddenly because there at the door was one of the things she was describing, it was bent, crooked and most definitely evil, it drew closer to them and Gen grabbed his sword from the table to his left, the thing lept at Ifi, but in one motion Gen rushed across, pushed her out of the way and sliced the thing clean in two, he had no time to even wonder how he did that despite never having any training in the sword arts to his knowledge before he felt a mortifying presence, he fell down in exhaustion, the last thing he saw being the image of Ifi crouched in the corner as the strange being with four spider legs closed in.

Gen woke up, he was still on the floor in his home, probably having been left for dead by the hellbourne, he knew they were the hellbourne-who else could they be? Gen stood up slowly and painfully and began a futile search for Ifi. Gen did not find her in the house, so he decided to try the village and was horrified by the sight he saw, dozens upon dozens of bodies littered the streets, some had been half eaten, others were missing a limb, an eyeball but all were dead, he kept on looking, hoping to find a survivor, he was just about to give up when he saw something stir near the door of the inn, it was one of the legion soldiers, he ran over to the coughing spluttering soldier and asked him whether he was fine.

"Soul... Reaper *cough* *cough* it was the Soul Reaper we were running from, he did this" the dying soldier managed

Gen was shocked, that meant that the Legion soldiers were the ones who had caused the Soul Reaper to come here, he spat at the soldier, disgusted beyond belief

"I deserve that" the soldier said " The Soul Reaper does exactly as his name implies *cough* everyone that died to him here is gone forever"

Gen already knew this, but why couldn't he accept it? He wanted to see Ifi's smile again, he wanted to eat her food, in one night, his peaceful life had vanished. He decided what he was going to do, he would at least free Ifi's soul from the Soul Reaper, he would kill the demonic being, he would, he'd die trying,Gen turned to the wounded soldier

"Where is King Jeraziah" he asked.

The Soul reaper had best be wary, Gennadios was coming... for revenge!
