Ju’han had still not made sense of it all. The battle had been going on for so long that is was hard to keep track of all the incidents. Not all of her comrades, or enemies for that matter, could be accounted for.
The arrow had caught her unawares and the sheer pain, combined with momentary panic were enough to keep her stunned for just long enough to lose track of the Legion army. The constant cries for Sol’s guidance and blessing made it clear that the battle was still raging though. But it was hard to comprehend their origin or even if it made sense to follow them. Maybe falling back was the safest thing to do..
The Queen of Light took her wingbow and she turned to go.
It was silly really. The Battle for Newerth was raging for years now. Had it been decades? Ju’han had advised against attacking at night time. Surely the Hellbourne would benefit from the darkness.. The Hero council would have none of it. The surprise element would largely outweigh the disadvantages they argued. Jeraziah himself was adamant that the light would guide them and protect them throughout the gank. For the least religious members of the council though, this was a clear defiance of logic. It simply did not make sense. Nonetheless, the prince of peace embraced the gloom and walked the night alone. Soon, however, others decided to follow and there was not much of a choice but to follow the lead.
“Moon Queen!” Startled, Ju’han recognized that voice. Xe’nif, the warden. He was still alive. The glowing centaur was unmistakable even in the midst of the forest and the fog. His pet companions also gave him away at a glance.
“You’re alive! I lost track of everyone..”
“I see you got your wingbow now. I am afraid we lost positioning in the fronts during battle.. The lines were lost and everyone spread out. Dozens died…”
“The Dark Lord rides in force tonight, and time will tell us all. We have no options. Side by side we wait the might of the darkest of them all.”
“I hear horses thunder down in the valley below.”
“The river.”
“Most likely. Let’s move”
“Summon your wolves, that they might lead the way.” It always made Ju’han slightly awkward to hear the druid’s calls. His howl was deep and disturbing. Somehow summoning never felt like something of this world.
“We need to pick our pace up if we are to follow them. They wait for no one.”
The apples of the valley hold the seeds of happiness. The ground is rich from tender care, which they do not forget, no, no. Dance in the dark night. Sing to the morning light.
The apples turn to brown and black, the tyrant’s face is red. Oh, war is the common cry. Pick up your swords and fly. The sky is filled with good and bad, mortals never know…
Oh well, the night is long, the beads of time pass slow. Tired eyes on the sunrise, waiting for the eastern glow.
It was indeed the glow that they first glimpsed in the night. That golden glow that had grown to be recognized, feared, respected and even worshipped in most of Newerth. The prince of light was raging in battle amongst the Legion soldiers. Valiant and bold he may have been but the fear instilled in his enemies was on enough to keep him from taking heavy blows in battle. He was failing them.
One of the wolves jumped on a Hellbringer wizard but the other one revealed their true enemy. Maliken, the dragon of darkness was advancing and strongly pushing the Legion defences. It was at that moment that the world started crumbling down. As Maliken’s battle fury transformed his hate into strength, all around him lost mind and crumbled to their feet. His sword glowed black to red to orange. A sign of impending doom. Jeraziah was lost.
It is in the heat and heart of the battle that heroes are born. It is there that they come to be, their dreams come true or crumble down. A true hero will come through for those he loves or for what he believes in.
Sing as you raise your bow, shoot straighter than before. No comfort has the fire at night that lights the face so cold.
As Ju’han and Xe’nif raced to help their falling prince and face Maliken, the night is at its peak. It is said that the Moon’s glow increased tenfold to aid them in battle.
At last the sun is shining, the clouds of blue roll by. With flames from the dragon of darkness, the sunlight blinds his eyes.
Some say that the moon itself struck down their foes.
“Not much is really known about what went on that night. The truth remains that the Hellbourne were defeated in the battle of Evermore. Songs were written. Songs that are sung to this day. My painful old shell has seen many heroes rise and many heroes fall. This rugged turtle wishes to take no more part of this fight. What I can tell you however, young boy, is that this wingbow has great powers. Go forth Magebane. A new time arises in Newerth. New evils lurk. In your hands rests the destiny of our people. The fate of our land.”
