Dev hook area

Seems like the grab distance of dev's hook is very inconsistent in terms of it's sideways aoe.

In this game I played 87791482 at 5:20 in the hook appears to completely miss me and yet I get grabbed and I often see other ones that appear to go closer but miss. Also many times you notice them pass by a creep at a closer range than this.

What is the size of the path of the hook and why does it appear to be different at times?

Please note that the aoe for the hook is a circle - thus it might not trigger until the hook animation is right beside the target.

I looked into the skill itself - there really isn't anything wrong.
