I've created a Red Tempest! What an accomplishment! Took several hours.
Not. It took very little time, is simple as hell, anybody can do it.
But still, I'm using it, I thought I'd just upload it so that others may too ;)

Here's some screens:
1804 1805
1806 1807

Installation (textures)

To install, download this file (http://www.mediafire.com/?tzhy0ihhmom) and extract it. You then have to add the folders "00000000", "00000003" and "00000005" to the file "textures.s2z" in your Heroes of Newerth\game directory.
(You can open textures.s2z with WinRar (http://rarlab.com)).

Windows: C:\Program Files\Heroes of Newerth\game\
Linux: /home/<username>/HoN/game/
Mac:
1. Press Finder
2. Press Applications
3. Right click 'Heroes of Newerth', and press Show containing files
4. Open Game folder
5. Move file here

(I also included the original files in the "Original Textures" folder. To restore the original icons, simply drag those "00000000", "00000003" and "00000005" folders onto the file textures.s2z (or add them by using WinRar (http://rarlab.com)))

This mod does overwrite some game files (the textures).

Incompatibility with other mods

This mod is not compatible with any other mod modifying the hero icon or the textures of the tempest. For a list of all mods and what files they modify check the Modification Repository.

It looks like it's really hard to depict what player color the hero is...

I bet it looks better in-game.

You are correct. This is only a recolor of the purple part of his skin, the player colors have not been edited in any way. It's easy to see, really :)

@Zaraki: Glad you like it ^^ I kinda liked the red better than the purple, since the red makes him look more like hes capable of massive spells. The purple seems a little more binine, I think :P

@Rubber: What kind of grammar is that..? :P No, it didn't take a lot of work, anybody could do it. But none had, so I did ;)

Ok read the guide. Easy. But how would I change the icons with that method? As far as I can see, it's not possible, since the icon-path is directed from the "entity" files, which shouldn't be messed with since they hold the basic stats of the heroes and are constantly modified.
And if I can't do this with the icons, why should I make half (the textures) use this method and the rest (the icons) use the current method of overwriting textures? Would just be more confusing :S

You can mess with the entity files, but you'll just have to make sure you keep them up to date with the game.

Or just don't bother with icons T_T

But icons are essential. They play an important role in mods, IMO. Well, for this texture and the torturer texture I've made, it's not that critical, since they don't look very nice (recolor :S), but for an example my custom hero, Khar, I really think the icons are essential to differ my mod from the original hero. Especially the hero icon.
