View Full Version : Suggestion: Enable ping on allied hero

Dear S2,

The purpose of this feature is to notify any allied hero that they are in danger because I see too many beginners don't have a sense that they are being ganked while they are farming, etc. Or maybe they are just too focused on trying to last hit creeps.

This feature is similar to the ping for defending towers.

When I ping my allied hero, the message could be something like this,

"Careful <hero/username>! You might be in danger."

Funnily enough I don't think this is a bad idea. Especially when (a) the person doesn't have sound or (b) they do not speak the language you speak.

Very good point! I get yelled back sometimes when i ping (around) the allied hero because they simply don't know why they got pinged.

Useful idea.

Yup. Also, if the player is distracted, a BIG red light above him is sure to catch it's attention. Put a poll to vote.

Lol the number of times someone pings for "danger" and I think it meant "GOGOGO"... and then we jump in to be ganked by midlane :(

On that note will people think its babying people too much? Replacing map awareness with over useful pings? Just playing devil's advocate. I like the idea myself.

Just wondering if this is similar to the Precise Ping suggestion in Miscellaneous?

I think my idea is quite different in terms of purpose and visuals.

In terms of purpose, the point is to alert beginners or unaware allied hero that they are potentially in danger.

In terms of visuals, a pinged allied hero is the same as if you pinged an enemy hero. Except maybe the color should be blue on the pinged allied hero. The mechanics and the way you ping is exactly the same as if you ping a tower/enemy, so minimal implementation is required. (I hope)

Except maybe the color should be blue on the pinged allied hero.

Hovering the mouse on an enemy/ally turns the cursor red/green with each. Since pinging an enemy already shows a red light, I think pinging an ally should show a green light as well.

i dont know about the message, i think putting something on their screen to get their attention is good.
I know when the clicking on enemy heroes first came out poeple would say "omg, you told me to attack them" when infact someone just clicked on them to show they were there. Solid concept though.

I agree, it makes sense to go with the color that is consistent with the rest of the allied scheme.

Yeah this happens quite often. So if this was implemented, then we can ping the allied hero instead.

I like this, I've always been a bit disappointed that you couldn't ping allies in the first place. Definitely approve.

Thumb UP from me.. Very good and usefull idea.. And there should be green glow around the hero that follows him and warns to go back..

another one great idea which has almost no downside and should definitely be in game, but probably wont make it because S2.

=[ I really hope not...this should be a breeze to implement (I hope). I am not suggesting something from scratch, hopefully they could reuse some of their code for this new feature as it is very similar to pinging a tower/enemy hero.

I really like the concept of the idea, but I find that sometimes when I ping a player it's not to warn them of anything but to direct them to go somewhere on the map.
This sort of thing may become very confusing if you're not intending to tell someone to get back.

Possible remedy:
Instead of alt+click for this kind of ping, perhaps ctrl+click or just another button in general.

I'll up vote anyway, but some thought needs to be put in to avoiding confusing situations when you aren't intending to warn someone of danger.

Hmm I see, so there's potentially a whole different scenario where you want to route the player a path in which you want that player to go...

I'll have to put some thought into that...thank you for your input!

Very good idea.

But only one flaw, what if we want to ping to help the allied hero?

Anyways, Thumbs up from me :P

Good point...I think as of now if you want to help an allied hero that is potentially in danger, you would either be in close proximity of him or be already tp-ing to the nearest tower...

if you're nearby and want to help the allied hero, then I assume the enemy has revealed himself and thus you can "alt + left click on enemy hero" as usual?

I really like your point, but at the sometime I don't want to complicate things or suggest another hotkey because right now I don't even know if S2 would consider implementing this feature. (I really hope they are aware of this thread)

KEEP ON VOTING! =D

great idea, im a fairly experienced player but sometimes when im playing pubs and im tired ill zone out while farming and not notice enemies pass through wards or notice my allies typing for me to back; would be especially helpful for new players (Y)
