FORUM MISSION

The goal of this sub-forum is to have intelligent discussion on the interaction of heroes, items and game-play related issues, and to ultimately probe and provide insight on overall balance. There should be no expectations in regards to having anything in this forum to actually be implemented into the game.

This forum is still an opportunity to directly affect the developers, and that can only be achieved by expressing yourself and your arguments in a intelligent and respectful manner. In order to keep it as user-friendly as possible, we kindly request that you respect the following rules:

BALANCE RULES

Please note that in Balance Dump (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=344261), none of the stated rules apply except for player flaming and the regular forum rules.

1. AVOID SUGGESTIONS

Straight-out suggestions, with no support or reasoning behind them at all, will be deleted with no questions asked. They bring nothing to the discussion and are simply a waste of effort on your behalf. Repeated suggestions with no such backing will result in infractions.

2. PLAYER SKILL IS IRRELEVANT

Player skill, or to be more specific, any types of in-game stats are useless indicators towards how well you understand balance. The value of one’s opinion is completely determined by the insight provided through their posts, not PSR/MMR. Calling out people for their stats is strictly prohibited within the confines of the balance forum.

If you are losing an argument, do not resort to attacking the player (ad hominem), improve your argument instead. Failing to follow this rule will for sure result in an infraction.

3. ALL OTHER FORUM RULES APPLY

They can be found right HERE (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=319192).

4. THREADS ARE APPROVED BY MODERATORS

The current version number must preface the topic of your post, eg. [1.3.3.7] Blacksmith.

If you do not include this, unless your thread is exceptional, it is unlikely to be approved.

Whether or not a certain topic is worthy of discussion is not decided by popularity, but by the quality of the opening post and the relevance of the topic. Before starting new threads you should try to make sure (by using the SEARCH (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/search.php) function) that the specific topic has not recently been an item of discussion.

If it was recently discussed and a Moderator closed it there is probably a reason for that, which might make the topic unfit for discussion until significant time has passed, or significant balance changes render the previous thread obsolete.

There can be a thread on anything regarding balance, as long as the foundation for argumentation is strong, or the issue is thoroughly explained. Remember though, just because a thread open post is long, doesn’t mean it is good.

A Moderator will lock your post with an explanation if it fails to meet approval criteria. Please check for your created thread once a day to make sure you haven't missed a decision!

5. STAY ON TOPIC

This forum is for balance purposes only. Any discussions regarding things that are more suited for Strategy, Suggestions or Mechanics forum, should be held in the appropriate forum.

This is important - repeated derailing of balance threads in favour of strategy (or mechanics) talk will result in infractions.

Do not talk about other heroes/items/game-play aspects unless they are directly comparable to the current thread. Filler posts like “cool” or “I like this idea” are not necessary; every post should be productive and in some way add to the discussion.

6. BE INFORMED

Read the whole topic before posting. Restating something previously mentioned in the thread just to provide your own opinion is pointless unless it further deepens the discussion.

Requisite knowledge about the topic is required to participate. If you don't know, don't post. If you think you know, but you don't - don't get mad when people call you out for it.

7. WHAT WE AIM TO BALANCE FOR

The game is balanced around the Forest of Caldavar map in Normal Mode (5 vs. 5).

Competitive play is our guideline for balance. Pub experiences, no matter what level of play, are virtually completely irrelevant unless no competitive statistics on the hero are available (new hero, heroes that never see play, etc.).
