I was looking at the shop, and was looking at the gold coins and thought.. how much does this all cost, so i got out my trusty calculator and went too town (yay):blac:

How much does one coin cost?
If using the $10.00 pack you get 420 coins, so 10/420 = $0.0238 per coin.

If using the $30 pack you get 1575 coins, so 30/1575 = $0.019 per coin

If using the $40 pack you get 2415 coins so 40/2415 = $0.0166 per coin

THE COST OF HON PART 2:
SILVER IS GOLD

I was asked in my last post to see if i could do the same maths for silver instead of gold, and too see how much HoN you would have to play to buy every item in HoN. So here is the output of my trusty calculator :scou:

Defining my bounds:

For this Maths-capade i will be using these bounds to measure out how much time it takes:

1) In this Maths, You recieve 10 silver coins per game (kind of an average)
2) Average game time is set to 25 mins (to turn games into a time value, stay with me here)

ALT AVATARS
89 alt avatars (Excluding EA and Avatars which were only avalible for a limited time)

29 cost 3000 coins (87,000) : 19 cost 470 coins (8930) : 15 cost 560 coins (8400) : 6 cost 900 coins (5400) : 4 cost 1500 coins (6000) : 4 cost 330 coins (1320) : 3 cost 230 coins (690) : 1 costs 3200 : 1 costs 520 : 1 costs 400 : 1 costs 660.

Total = 129,320 coins
Coins / Coins per game = 129,320 / 10 = 12,320
No. Games = 12,320
No. Games * Time Per Game = 12,320 x 25 = 323,330 mins
323,330 mins
5,388.3 hours
224.5 days
ACCOUNT ICONS

151 account icons costing 100 coins each + 1 costing 1000 coins
151 x 100 = 15,100 + 1000 = 16,100 coins
No. Games = 1,610
40,250 mins
670.8 hours
28 days

ACCOUNT COLOURS
There are 5 account colours of varying price

Total = 18,170 couns
No. Games = 1,870
45,425 mins
757.1 hours
31.6 days

ACCOUNT SYMBOLS
There are 200 account symbols all costing 275 coins
200 x 275 = 55,000 coins
No. Games = 5,500
137,500 mins
2,292 hours
95.5 days

TAUNTS

There are 9 couriers of varying price

Total = 6100 coins
No. Games = 610
15,250 mins
254.2 hours
10.6 days

CONCLUSION

Total number of coins needed = 245,650 Silver Coins
Total number of Games = 24,565 Games
Total In Mins = 614,125 Mins
Total In Hours = 10,235.4 hours
Total in Days = 426.5 Days

THE LALOND AVERAGE
I was asked in comments to break the hours down for an average player, so i asked Lalond in his stream how much hon he plays on average per week, and he said 25 hours a week.

So

10,235.4 hours divide by 25 (turn into weeks)
10,235.4 / 25 = 409.4 weeks
409.4 divide by 52 (weeks in a year)
7.87 Years of Average Play
Thanks for reading this. Also please Badger MilkFat into Making this his new record ^^

Also would like to thank [GM]MacroHard for making me completly poo my pants thinking he had deleted this! im sending you the washing bill!!!

what about the free coins from refering fake acounts, them making them buy coins for you?

Eiram
02-12-2012, 04:29 AM
So you are saying i can have everything in the shop for less than one weeks pay? Infact less than that as you dont need 200 account symbols and 151 icons, let alone 6 taunts lol.
Compared to my other hobbies, this game is priced very well.

I occasionaly get 40$ packages and go for their special actions.

In total I've maybe spend 150$ on this game over the course of the past years (including buying the game itself), and I own nearly everything in the store thats worthwhile. (Who needs every symbol, flag, announcer and chat color? Be realistic.)

Compare it to mmorpgs where you spend 20$ a month just to be allowed to play, or F2P games where you have to spend 30$ a month to not be completly gimped, this game is fantastic, really dont know what all you cheapskates are Q.Qing about. You make it sound like you can't play the game without the alt avatars, symbols and announcers. Holy ****.

I hope you aren't serious.

i think he is. compare it to mw3, you play the singleplayer for 6 hours and pay 60 dollar for it: 10 dollar per hour gameplay

now play 1000 hon matches, normal match length 1/2 hour: 500 hours

go spend 500$ in shop: still only 1$/ hour

you actually have to play more than 50 hours of mw3 full of shitty cheaters and ragekids multiplayer to come close to that number, and thats only true if you want to buy everything with gold coins, which you obviously wont, since you will be getting lots of silver coins during those 1000 matches. lets say you only buy 1/2 of the alts for gold, which is still a pretty high number since many heroes have 2 alts now and you normally wouldnt buy both (at least i wouldnt). you then have spend 250$ on hon, which equals 0,5$ per hour of entertainment. compare that to a movie that costs 15$ for 2 hours of film.. pretty cheap, dont you think?

pretty cheap if u ask me, now compare price/playtime with other games

I bought Skyrim the other day at steam weekly sale for 30 euros. About the same as 3-4 premium avatars.

You have to compare the price/playtime for the use of that specific avatar (or whatever) not for the whole game.

In that sense Skyrim (for instance) gives you infinite better price/playtime ratio.

The store prices are ridiculous! Who keeps buying that stuff?

02-12-2012, 08:38 AM
I don't feel bad for spending the ~$200 that I have spent on the game. It's fun, I greatly prefer it over LoL and DotA 2, and I have gotten a lot of time out of it.

Now calculate the time spent played to get silver coins for the same stuff.

02-12-2012, 09:39 AM
And they dare to call it F2P.

Good job $'2

Ever since starting to play HoN - after it went f2p - i have spent a whopping 0,00$/€ on it and enjoy it all the same. I agree; good job, S2 :)

All of you hippies should get signs and start a protest....you can convert logical fallacies into cool catch phrases like "We are the 99%!", maybe bring some tents (and for sure some smores).

I'll either be working, or in my off time maybe playing some hon with my cool alt avatars and announcer packs.

PS: Welcome to the business world, consumers. Take a deep breath if you need to, I realize it may be a shocker but it IS true...S2 is a business with expenses incurred that need to be payed. One for example might be artwork, sound work, animation work...perhaps for a new avatar?

02-12-2012, 05:32 PM
Now do the maths for everything on LoL.. I think you will find that it is infinitely more expensive than HoN, and you cannot get any alts for free(other than ones from special promotions / liking facebook / youtube). Oh and lets not forget that you have to buy runes for each class of hero to make them effective so you'll be dishing out cash for IP boosts as well to afford each set which on avg is about 15k per set.

In other words HoN is a way better value... and way more fun to play(but that's my opinion).

Thank god everything you actually need is free. If you have extra money then you have plenty of opportunity of buying some vanity options.

02-12-2012, 05:46 PM
I have almost every alt avatar..I bought the majority of them when everything was on sale for 50%, most of the money I've spent on S2 coins was made from selling crap in MMO's.

Do I think the prices are too much? yes($10 for a single alt is pricey, mostly the newer ones). Do I mind to spend the money? Nope.

How many hours of game play would be required to purchase everything in the shop with only silver? (including heroes with a F2P account)

Also i wonder if S2 has information somewhere saying which account has played the most HoN...

lets just say the only thing people should be complaining about is that 30$(10$) worth of this game (the heroes) now got bumped up to 200$+

The other **** doesn't really affect your game play; just your e-peen

All the stuff that's running in the background to keep everything going smoothly isn't free. $30 was just not enough.

I did this a while ago for the FTP hero purchase costs, you didn't account for the hero packs. There's really no need to make it look worse than it already is...

Because you HAVE to buy all the cosmetic stuff if you want to enjoy the game.

Protip : If you think shop prices are too high (or are like me and just don't care about avatars and stuff) then just don't buy coins. Problem solved.

I've used $1000 or more on every other hobby than HoN. I haven't checked what I've used on HoN but (if you include the $150 I spent by selling another game) it should be around $500.
