The voice chat completely doesn't work.

Sometimes enemy abilities' sounds play in the fog.

For those experiencing FPS Issues:
Those experiencing FPS drops should type in the following command in the console (CTRL + F8 or CTRL + `) at the beginning of a game: setlibrarysfml.

Sound fix not persisting through games:

I played two games after downloading the patch for the sound fix and the first game went completely normal. The second game on the other hand, all hero sound effects had stopped working. The UI/creep/tower sound effects still worked and the problem seemed to be solely with hero sound effects, including other players and not just my own hero.
After the game, I restarted HoN and started up a practice game in which all sound effects worked.
Seems like a pretty small glitch and is easily fixed by restarting HoN. Just thought I would bring it to your attention since all bugs are bugs no matter how small or big.

Hmm, well alright. I will also take this opportunity to edit your thread and combine it for the FPS-drop issue so people won't post about it.

The game sounds very different from Windows/old Mac sound engine. Seems like a lot of sounds a missing or played with a wrong volume?

I can confirm that I've had the sound fix not lasting problem as well. Strangely it seems fairly random, as sometimes it will happen on the second game and other times I have played several games in a row without it occurring. Restarting HoN seems to fix the problem.

I am tiger user, and downloaded the most recent patch. Now my Hon Client won't open. I was just wondering if tiger/leopard/snow leopard got the axe?

I haven't done side-by-side comparisons, but the sounds seem to have a cut-off range that is smaller than the camera area compared to the old sound engine. Or the attenuation values of the sounds need to be changed. It's been awhile since I've worked with sound in OpenAL.

On an aside... One of the recent patches killed the dynamic layer on the main menu which was working before (after having not worked since they revamped the UI to include it). This is the layer with the volcano and birds flying around it is no longer there. It is there on the log in screen, but after logging in, it disappears.

Yup, a lot of hero sound effects go away during game, while the rest remain. I was doing SB's frenzy and I didn't hear the whirl sounds but I could hear creeps, announcer, etc.

Also, I'm using turtle beaches and I hear everything. A lot of the sounds are magnified for the left ear for some reason too.

Same problem as rest, some hero sounds i do not hear, some i do... Seems almost randomly...

Sound is glitched to the max after the "sound fix".

No hero unit responses and various other sounds that cannot be heard or are half operational.

Also, I cannot hear any microphone sound from my team anymore and I can't even use my mic (even when pressing the assigned push-to-talk button).

If you read the post in the news section by Xandark then you would know that all mac lion voice chat and music is disabled (apparently including hearing voice chat, which sucks).

Well, i'm still expieriencing fps dropdowns on my Mac / Leopard.
I know..it's an older System but it worked just fine until the "sound fix " patch 2.5.8.
Since then it's happening..FPS drops down for a period of time to 5-8..
So not really playable.

I tried the quick"fix" with typing in the console setlibrarysfml. but it doesnt help that much..

In the announcement, it said other than music and voicechat, everything sound related should work fine.

However there are definitely other sounds not working such as shop sounds (buying/selling items, the sound when you swap an item slot) etc.

So is the Lion version stable so I can upgrade from Snow Leopard again now? Or should I keep the old OS?

Set your "Music Volume" to 0. (all the way down). See if that works. I never did the console thingy.

It's definitely unstable. Keep your Snow Leopard. Your not missing anything yet from Lion besides like Cloud.

OK so like whenever I fully load a game (after heroselect screen etc.) I experience a crash. Upon reloading I can re-enter the game only to experience another crash... Hey at least I got sound working? :/

Random sounds are occurring, some are way to loud (e.g. auto attacks), some spells are completely missing. Also not consistent over several games....

This seems far from being viable at the moment :(

Nope, and neither has their been any word on when lion will get voice chat back. Personally I would rather have no sound and have voice chat work then the current situation where I have sound but no voice chat. Anybody know of a way to go back to the old sound libraries?

There's no way on mac, only on Windows and Linux(?).
Btw,I turned off my sound because of the FPS drops. It looks like I'm watching a slideshow on powerpoint. So at the moment i dont have game sound nor voice chat. Thanks a lot.

Id rather be able to hear my teammates on mic and use my mic rather than have a half working sound effects while unable to hear my teammates on mic....

Yup, I just use my Windows partition at this point. Not being able to use voice chat is way, way worse than not being able to hear the game sounds. They really broke the game "temporarily". S2 is the worst. I tell everyone I know that they suck hardcore. And this from a guy who really loved S2 and made a bunch of posts and sent e-mails on this issue. They've handled it terribly. It's still going on. They censor posts about it. Just a textbook case study on how a small business can alienate a customer base.

Oh while S2 is failing to fix this... can you check why there is a buzzing sound on the sound options (turn interface volume up to 100%).

QQloy mentioned it, but no one has responded -- if you download the latest versions for Mac they do not even open. There's some missing file and you never even get to to the log-in screen.

It just prints a bug report and dies. Would love some iGuy help.

I was just flipping through some RSS feeds and saw something related to HoN and that inspired me to come to the forums and review the current state of affairs. Nice to see that since Jan 31st, they still haven't made any changes / progress on the sound. Sound has been broken since August 2011. Lol??

Other companies can get the sound to work for their games. Why not S2? Oh well, back to other things. GG HoN

Is this still broken? Pretty annoying that a game that relies on communication has no voice chat... I don't care as much about the sound, but voice chat needs to work...

Maybe the reason they couldn't use a FMOD library that worked for Lion was PowerPC support holding them back. So now that they've dropped it they can easily just revert the sound code BACK to FMOD instead of OpenAL. Nothing against OpenAL, but they did a pretty poor job emulating the FMOD engine with their custom sound engine. At least that was my hope on March 9th when they were supposed to drop PowerPC support. However, no update in regards to Mac sound was released. Maybe when 3.0 comes out.

I hear enemy players "TPing" to towers through the fog, and as far as I can tell it's 100% of the time. I put my camera near the enemy tower or over it and hear the initial sound of the TP.

P.S. It's been great to know if more heroes come to the lane, thanks for the bug!

Wow, maybe if enough Windows player complain about the advantages, they will actually FIX the sound for the Mac client? Because it doesn't seem to matter how long we complain. This is horrible service and support. Although they have been at 2.5 for a very long time, maybe they are waiting for the big 3.0 switch in order to switch back to FMOD as they have not updated the "Dropping Power PC support" and it has been much past March 9th.

i hear teleports and kong through fog. try this if you want an advantage cuz f_cking sh_t2 won't do anything about it; when your dead put your screen on top of your fountain and you'll hear the enemy heroes. I heard madman every time he went invis and i heard his sound effects for his auto attacks. ez ganks gg s2 u fail as always.

For me the "setlibrarysfml" works fine. At least it takes away the framerate ****.

I don't mid hon fixing this. Infact its good to know when 2 people tping to tower to gank you. Also you can hear the enemy team attacke kong all the way from base

I can't play a game because the fps lags so much… it takes like 5mins to load assets before joining a game.

this is just plain silly..with certain heroes, the reload of setlibrarysfml just take shitloads of time so i lose connection with the server, (early MBP 2011). How can the client get worse during development?!

lol, the fact that we've had TWO patches and still no sound fix is outrageous. Stop patching in alt avatars and START fixing the voice chat. We don't give a shi* about the rest until the voice chat gets fixed. This is so ridiculous.

Since I generally play with my friends and we use mumble to talk I am actually fine with not having voice chat. The ability to tell when the enemy is konging or tping, or even if they are farming the jungle is really, really, helpful. I mean my friends have even started calling it my "mac sense". :P

For those of you who haven't noticed yet, if you look at the corner of the well then you can hear all hero attack, kongor attack, tp, and spell sounds from the whole map, as well as being able to hear them if you look at the area where the hero is.

After playing on both my mac and pc, i can absolutely say the mac client plays horrible...
I've also experienced the lag-issues people are talking about...i have used the cntrl+shift+fn+F8 solution. And even though it makes the game somewhat playable...I'm still experiencing small hickups and lags.
I'm playing the game on exactly the same connection, but the mac client just seems to react a lot slower (there seems to be a delay of 0,25-0.5 sec between clicking and game reaction).....normally I wouldn't find this such an issue...but for a game where practically everything revolves around reaction time....this is an absolute disaster!!!

Im now trying windows on bootcamp to see the difference on the exact same machine, with the exact same connection...

A thing that has been bugging me since the last "Bad entity snapshot"-hotfix patch, is that when toggling fullscreen (cmd+f), the game resets to the default brightness value, and has to be manually adjusted everytime.

Well they finally dropped PowerPC support and upgraded their FMOD library and 2.5.20 actually works. I do not know why this took 6 months to get done, but thank you S2 for doing something.
