So I was playing Hellbringer for the first time [MAYBE second] today, I thought I did pretty good but I want to know where I can improve because I really like the hero and seem to do pretty well with him. So if you are a really good Hellbringer player and would like to watch the replay of this and maybe let me know how I did and what to do better and how to work on it.

Match ID: 9387334
Server: USE 19
Time: 1:12:25

I'm not sure if we can watch replays or not, if you can then please let me know the stuff above, if not then just tell me and I'll delete this thread.

Thanks!

It honestly looks like you were very successful in getting last hits on heroes, and buying items that you found convenient/wanted at the time.

Your range for an int hero like Hellbringer is shorter, and you generally get to hang in the back due to your role as initiator/nuker/slow. Steamboots gives you the flexibility for a nice burst of mana until you no longer need it, and then become a nice boost for your hit points which is why I ALWAYS choose them over Phase Boots.

Hellbringer can improve his contribution to the team by not having 2 Malphas (and a huge huge drainage of your mana), but rather by going straight for a Sheep Stick. It provides a huge boost for your intelligence and 200% mana regen, as well as a complete full disable for one of their teammates. Pair this with Malphas and a slow, you can start any fight as a 4v5. Late game, any competent team does not take Malphas as a serious threat, as he is easily eliminated by the other team's carry, the stun becomes more to interrupt them.

The frostfield plate is also a bit goofy in my opinion. Sure you have a lot of mana points now, and nice tanky armor, but Hellbringer already has a great survivability skill in Life Void. I think pairing a Mock of Brilliance with Life Void would be much funner than simply taking less damage (the aoe effect requires you to be somewhat near them).

But even then, after successfully having a Sheep stick, my next immediate item would normally be a Refresher, as you'll be able to a lot more afford its mana cost now... however, judging from the heroes you were facing, I would of put my Life Void to even better use. Building a full Codex to have a nice tremendous nuke. At this point, you'd become incredibly intimidating to the opposing team.

With the items you had, your a semi-tanky int hero with 2 weak malphas summons and all your original spells from Level 16. Imagine if you were instead the Hellbringer sitting in the back, initiating a fight with Malphas, disabling their main carry immediately, slowing him, saving Death Boil for the next target, and having a 700-800 dmg nuke (codex) that will attack at full wraith from life void debuff?

These are all my opinions based on your current game situation.

Codex on hellbringer? Never thought of that. If you are gonna try to be tanky with him you should try barbed armor. LifeVoid your enemeys than watch as they hurt themselves and heal u. Only works on people that aren't that smart though those seem to be in high supply in pubs.

I don't care how big the victory gap is in a game, if an ally Hellbringer ever got mock I would without hesitation vote kick them.

In all practicality, mock helps no one but the person holding it for the most part, yeah its aoe damage, but its not a team item, doesn't help his stats AT ALL, and certainly doesn't give you any additional disable. All of which HB needs since he lacks any real team contribution factor after his ult and slow.

Even Stormspirit would be more useful to the team than Mock would, and if we are comparing Mock vs Frostfield, I'd rather have the Frost on him than Mock since it at least slows their entire teams AS and lends to his main stat and armor.

Read the whole post, I was only comparing one goofy item for Hellbringer to another goofy item, I posted my own input on core items and Mock was definitely not one of them :P

Hellbringer is totally item-independant

Sheep stick is too expensive on him imo.
Me playing Hellbringer usually leads to warding/dusting
& mass suiciding so the more important teammates don't die at ganks.
Storm Spirit is a luxury item for me, in fact i am happy if I ever upgrade my Marchers..

If you do get mass kills and don't die,
either your team totally dominates (then your items don't matter anyways),
or you do something horribly wrong.

You're dying too much. Hellbringer is a strong laner, so you shouldn't be dying in lane or to ganks. You can only spend so much on wards, and this leaves you with a good margin of gold to buy Support with. I generally go.

Start:
Mana potions, Wards and Crushing Claws
Marchers
Bracers
Steamboots
Astrolabe
Barrier Idol

I _wouldn't_ die. If I ran. But if we are ganked (Me+Carry),
I tell the Carry to run and slow/block the gankers so he survives.
Same in Teamfights, if one goes bad, I run in to delay the enemy push,
rescuing 2-3 Teammates by sacrificing myself.

Since Hellbringer is about the most item-independant hero (matched only by Ophelia) in the game,
I'd never try to save myself if someone else will die and could've been saved instead.

Even if you don't die, you should avoid getting kills, you simply don't need the money.
If I somehow got tons of gold, I build Post Haste / StormSpirit, depending on the gold & situation
(i.E. if I got 1000g and expect teamfights to happen soon, I won't save money but start building StormSpirit)
Actually never got more items than 2x Null / Bottle / PH / SS, but I guess standard support Items like Astro, BarrI, etc work nicely.

Bracers i never found to be feasible, as Teamfights are usually all about you initiating with a stun,
plus LifeVoid, shackle their Carry and/or Boil some squishy. You don't do much afterwards,
& since you don't care about deaths, they look like wasted money.

My Startup is Courier, 2x Mark of the Novice, 2x Mana Potion & always solo mid
(though if you feel him to be too squishy, feel free to exchange one/two Marks with Claws).

+6 Int make easy Last/Hit-Denying, and after I got lvl2 I start to harass the living out of whoever opposes me.
Courier chipping me more Manapots, Wards, Bottle, Marchers, 2x NullT, Flying Courier - without any real order;
thus allowing me to stay in lane forever & only leaving after lvl4 to gank bot / lvl6 to push top tower.
