The winner of the first suggestions contest for excellence is Skyve for a combination of hero design as well as passive suggestions. Honorable mentions drpeckers, nytemair, the_tes, kombaina, Diablo`` and matz0r.

The Prize
The first ever forum award for excellence in suggestions.
The Contest
Design a ranged support/ganker intelligence hero. This hero must have one non ult passive ability and 3 other abilities that are area control related.

The Twist
Not only will we be judging to on your own hero we will be judging you on alternative passive suggestions for other hero suggestions. You may make multiple passive suggestions for your own hero as well as others.

How the winner(s) of the award will be decided
I am going to go with my gut. (my gut is going to be looking at the passive suggestions)
Dead Line
The sooner the better. Consider the cut of date the end of the month but I would prefer entries much sooner then that so people can give passive feed back suggestions.

Can I use heroes that I used for other competitions? E.g. If I made a hero for the MTG competition could I use it for this? And is there a limit of heroes that can be posted?

You can use past ideas if they fit the criteria. You are allowed to submit as many times as you would like. The passive and how it works with area denial spells is what i will mainly be looking at so keep that in mind.

I wanted to enter a hero idea, yet I haven't fully grasped the meaning of "area control"..

Does Behemoth's Fissure, Empath's Wall, Gladiator's Showdown, Engineer's Spider Mines, and amongst other I have failed to include; do they fall as area control abilities?

I wouldn't consider gladiators showdown area control and spider mines would only be area control under some circumstances (when they are used in a mana to give you vision over a large area or placed in such a way as the enemy feels their movements are restricted.

Basically you mean area denial, right?
So skills like Zephyrs ultimate, Tempests Meteor/Ultimate, Gladiator's Pitfall/Ultimate, Glacius' Ultimate, Demented Shaman's Healing Wave to a degree, Geomancer's Ultimate, the threat of Behemoth's ultimate (since you CAN'T stand close together if you know he could just blink in any moment), and so on.

Engineer is probably the master of area denial. Keg creates an area that enemies will want to get out of. Turret does the same. Mines do the same, and can be used to prevent enemies from taking certain paths. His ultimate creates a lot of incentive for enemies to leave an area, and also makes them to not want to enter that area.

I just want to throw out there an alternative passive suggestion has the same value as an entirely new hero suggestion as far as i am concerned. (if not more value)

Does the skill count as a passive if it gives a passive effect and can be activated?
For example, Moraxes's Shield. It gives armor, and has an active effect.

not really. You can substitute numbers for stuff like low / average / high if you want. Of course if its completely out of wack balance wise it might effect it. (like a 1 second cool down nuke that does 10000 damage.)
