Fast communication contributes to a good team. However, with pings, sometimes meanings can be misconstrued and might lead to the whole team dying because they didn't know whether you meant to attack and go here or be careful and run.
Thus I believe it would be a good idea to have to different types of pings. Default ping would be the same (alt + left click) and it would mean to attack or go there. The secondary type of ping would be done by alt + right click on the minimap, and would have a different animation/sound signifying danger and for you to go on the defensive. The animation/sound don't have to be fancy, but just different enough to be able to differentiate between left and right click pings.
Currently as far as I know, alt does nothing as a right click modifier and makes your hero move to the spot clicked. So changing this with the suggestion above and the left/right click buttons being right next to each other, I believe this to be a beneficial change with no downsides.
In summary:
Two pings with different animations (and sound if possible):
Alt + left click -> Offensive ping, used to mean "attack" or "go there."
Alt + right click -> Defensive ping, used to signal "danger" or "to retreat."
Also, in combination with this idea, I believe it would be a good idea to show pings on the real map so people can see where pings are specifically (good for showing where to put wards, etc).
