View Full Version : Why, oh why, must you push the lane?

No, It's not what you think. I'm talking about early (lvl 1-6) where I try to focus only on last hitting, but end up being called a noob for "not attacking the creeps". However, when I start listening to the 1337 squad, the lane ends up getting pushed to the opposing teams tower and we become unable to get denies. Oh, and ganked... So am I really just a noob who should be auto-attacking the creeps? Or do I have the right to rage when I see someone failing to focus only on last-hitting?

There is never a time before level 6 when auto attacking is ok unless you are the babysitter and you're trying to feed your kids. That requires incredible cooperation, though, and you have to be perfect at denying to keep the wave from moving.
Scratch that. Auto-attacking is never a good idea.

:) Thank you for the replies. It was getting frustrating because it wasn't making much sense to me.

Honestly, you should take what anyone says with a grain of salt unless those people happen to be the winners of the competitions in this game and therefore making real life money. Don't ignore your teammates, but if your gut tells you you're right and you profit from it, who are they to tell you what to do?
Someone really smart said 80% of the time this game is about gut feeling. What do you feel is going to happen? What do you feel might happen next? That's what's going to happen.
You're welcome to play on my team any day if you don't auto-attack. I'm kind of appauled someone would support auto-attacking. It's about the worst thing you can do in this game. Depending on how good your enemy is at last hitting it can be worse than feeding.

Try pulling your creeps to some neutrals.
Make sure your ring of the teacher is turned off, so it doesn't give your creeps extra damage and armour.
Yeah and just last hit. When denying, you can get a few hits on your own creep at the start to bring the creeps closer to your tower.

Theres nothing wrong with pushing the lane if you are on short lane though, since that allowes you to creep pull and deny your opponent alot more exp

Did they really say that? Seriously....

you are definitely in the right here. the problem with those people you play with is that they never visit these forums, might not even know they exist, and are damn sure they know exactly how to play. Its not likely to change either, because i really didnt know anything about last hitting before I came to these forums. Maybe just try to tell them nicely?

Replace pebbles with a hero who can jungle so you don't have a try lane ophelia and tempest are pretty good at pushing towers.

They are morons... pushing the towers early is stupid. Like you said you can't deny the creeps but furthermore it leaves you open to be ganked easier too. Don't push a tower until like level 8 I would say.

While I don't support auto-attacking, I feel that everyone is forgetting that sometimes teams want to go for an early push and win to tie down late game heroes, or late game in general.
With that said, when I'm with my friend at bot lane (top for hellbourne) I tell him to push hard after the 2 minute mark (not with auto-attacking, but with harassing + last hitting creeps to get their hp down faster than our own creeps) so that after I've triple stacked creeps (after warding of course) I can eliminate about 1 complete wave every other wave and hinder their hp gain. By doing this I give my partner extra hp when I'm pulling creeps AND it limits our enemy's levels drastically in our lane.

You are indeed correct...proceed to yell at every Hammerstorm / Magmus / etc. that learns their pushing skill early.

ofc u should attack creeps but only so u still can get last hit (hit them half hp and wait for last hit)

Is it Galvanize or Cleave?
Is it Steambath or ExplodieCreepDisease?

All 4.
For hammerstorm= Stun, Galvanize at 2, stats at 4, keep maxing out stats until 12-15(depending on your setup, you can max out cleave at this point or you can keep with stats)
Magmus=stun/stats, get touch around 9(first level) or 12, you are a mid game pusher, however, you can get touch at 2 or 4 IF and only IF you are facing 2 melee laners against you.

Alright, thanks for the help. Just occurred to me how much more effective the stats are for these heroes than anything else, considering they're 1/2 stuns and OOM.

The babysitter shouldn't even think about taking his kid's food unless he knows he won't get it.

Actually, not only that, but as Hammer, at level 8 depending on your items you're looking at some 1400-1800 hp, with 100-120 damage.
Magmus also benefits from this, as he is squishy as hell , so going stats early actually gives him respectable 1kish HP with almost 0 items, with bracers/marchers, you're looking at 1-1.2k hp.

As long as its not em, its beneficial to you, if your opponents are pushing the lane in the laning phase of the game... in all lanes. Unless the opponents are running a legionnaire combo, you should let them push.

autoattacking is bad of course.
i have a question tho. isn't it good to attack your own creeps for the very opposite reason? of course try to get the deny, but ionce your creeps get past half health, u can still attack them without missing the deny. this ends up in your creeps dying faster, thus keeping the lane on your side more.
"auto-attack" your own creeps (it's not really the correct term), but don't miss the deny. right?

First of all, I said you would hit the creeps to weaken them for your lane partner. Not last hit and steal from him.
Secondly, I said nevermind at the end of the post followed by, "it's never good".
Read before you quote me.
