I've seen plenty of hero gets this item, but I feel that the money could be much better spent somewhere else, I think a buckler + other items would be more beneficial than an Iron Shield. Am I mistaken? Becaused Iron shield's usefulness feels VERY short lived. I mean is there any point of getting one instead of 2 bucklers if you're going jungle? or getting one instead of a courier at the start or hachet?

it's good for melee agi carries in lane, gives them damage, armor, and block among other things helps last hitting and surviving which is what they need in lane.

Good for agi carries who feel as if they'll be mass harassed in a lane, normally against dual ranged lanes.
Generally it's upgraded from stout due to the assured block of hero harass damage, and the buff to your last hit damage and +1 armor. It's also able to be bought from a sidelane in the SS.

it reduces damage from every normal attack that your enemies does so it's like a free 20 hp heal everytime they hit u..... not bad IMO lols...

madman, cronos, darklady, almost any melee carry can benefit from this item, but only if you get it early. It loses effectiveness quickly, but it's pretty cheap, so if u can buy it early (before ~3 minutes), then get one.

i get it on Kraken all the time it just suits the hero especially with the item build i use anyhow (mega lategame).
its 100/60% proc chance means it cant do no wrong.

Buy it and keep it until you need the inventory slot. It's not that expensive and gives you about 300 gold back when selling it. Good for Agi Melee as said above.

think of them as an alternative to getting soulscream rings.
they both give the same agility, cept one gives +3 intel/+3 strength
while other blocks 20 damage.

Great item. Its worth replacing one of the earlier stat items, expect the great battery.

What's even better is when someone decides to stack Iron Shield and Helm of the Black Legion.
Two different blocking items that do not stack FTL.

Anyone with a brain knows he's talking about the Side Shop.
I like the Iron Shield on a lot of agi heroes, since I seem to get harassed a lot early on. It's a decent item overall. If you want damage reduction, this is better for you than HotBL imo.

2 runes, 2 totems, 2 slippers as starting items give you +8 damage. Upgrade to Iron shield and you have a lot of harass resistance. Then get a mana battery and upgrade it to power suppply with chicken and you have mana and hp when they spam spells at you.

When I started reading this post I thought of you, and how you do... well... exactly what you said, so it was funny when I saw that you posted it too.

This is how I view it. I rarely get it on any heroes though, only Night Hound, who I only play when I'm determined to lose/troll an -ap game (is it FEEDING TIME ehehehehehe).

I only get it on heroes like Night Hound, Magebane, or Arachna (meh).
It's one of those items you're eventually going to have to sell, so you need to work out how long you're going to keep it (30 minutes?) until you need to sell it.
If you're going to be farming a lot (including neuts) it's a very good item for the price.

Its one of those early game survival items that loses effectiveness really quickly (another that springs to mind is helm of the back legion). If you can get it fairly quickly AND its actually going to prove useful then get it.
Unless your being harassed really heavily AND you have stout shield for some reason I wouldn't bother with it.

I get iron shield pretty much all the time on any agi carry, its just a good cheap early game item that gives a small dmg reduction + dmg boost. =)

It is early game when you're denying at lvl 1 to hold their lvls down.
