Want to suck at HoN? TOO BAD ITS ME VIOLE

Intro
I'm bored a lot of the time, with lots of friends going offline and on and all this such. Being a fellow HoN nerdy nerd, I have decided to make this topic.

"What is this topic about?" you may ask. Well, the answer to that should be clear since this on the training grounds, duuhhhh. I want to teach new people how to play and be better!

I've played DotA for over 7 years, back before most anyone knew it existed, when there were a dozen heroes with no custom abilities, no recepie shops, max level of 10, and so on. I've played HoN for 4 months, across many levels (teaching new people in noob games, learning the game myself when I just started, high level play, casual games, etc).

My training background
I've taught my friends how to play HoN before, 8 of them actually. Most have never touched DotA or even WC3 before, so that surely is not a problem. On top of that, throughout the last 4 months I've played, people have stalked me until I finally gave into their devious ploys to enlist me as their instructor (what jerks, right?), and taught them as well :). I've taken a few people from 1100-1200psr and have raised them up and into the 1400-1500psr range in a week or two (my back hurts from carrying their butts so far up that hill, though). So, to conclude, I've taught a lot of people how to play, be better, and feel better that there is hope in this video game beta.

What I ask of you
i • Able to speak/understand English fluently (As much as I'd like to help out ANYONE, I just cannot teach or spend that much time with someone who has little grasp of the language I mainly speak). This also counts to people who have no idea how to type - again, I'm sorry, but I am not willing to spend time with someone who tipe lyke dis, u no????. This doesn't mean you have to type like your English professor would, as casual is fine, but "txt speak" drives me insane :[

ii • I prefer Skype for conversing on. Vent is nice and all, but Skype is just a faster and more clear connection, and I don't like PTT keys (Vent can go without them, but it's a nuisance to set the sensitivity to the right value). A mic is also strongly strongly suggested, but not set in stone. Just know I'd prefer the guy with the mic than the dude without one.

iii • I live on the west coast of the US, which is PST time (-8 GMT; -3 EST). It would be silly to try and set up games with someone who's schedule does nothing but conflict with mine. I am on most of the day because I'm a currently unemployed (who isn't, right?), so outside of going out or having class, I'm free. I don't require you live on the west coast, but just able to have a schedule that overlaps with mine so we can actually play.

iv • Someone with a sense of humor. This isn't necessarily a requirement, but more of a suggestion. I joke around a LOT, and am a sarcastic twit, so some people just don't like those sort of personalities. I'm really kind when needed, and can take it seriously as well, but it's a video game - have some fun :)

v • DO NOT EAT WHILE ON SKYPE WITH ME. Please. I know this is probably the most douchebag sounding rule of them all, but I will not play with you if you eat on mic and make those nasty sloppy mouth breathing and lip smacking sounds. Sorry, but my sanity is not worth it o.o

So, I might add more in the future, but those are pretty much the only things I ask. So, just post here or send me a forum PM with some details about yourself (experience, why you want to learn, a 13 page doctrine regarding the metagame of heroes of newerth, the usual) and we'll go from there. I can't teach 17 people at once, and I do have a lot of my own friends who want to play with me too, so while I will try my best, I can't guarantee that I'll be able to answer everyone who replies, since I like to play with some of my friends too :P That's about it, sorry for making it long and boring sounding, but I don't like not being informative! <3

Disclaimer: I am not the best HoN player, nor do I claim to be. I do not enjoy competetive play most of the time, and thus have little tourney experience. So, while I may know a lot about the game, there are a few things I don't know (but have access to learn about).

Hiya, perhaps you could help me out some?

I'm pretty new to HoN, but not DotA I've played DotA occasionally for awhile(before I started preferring in-house games with friends than pubs who did nothing but insult me) so I'm not stranger to the mechanics of the game. However, I AM plain horrible, averaging 5-10 deaths a game with only 0-3 kills which come from mainly getting the last hit on a hero in a team gank.

What I think my main problems comes from not knowing how to play a hero right (Should I be focusing on jungleing, laneing, or going for ganks?) As well as item buying(I don't have the positions memorized so I can spend a few seconds trying to find that item I want while in a lane, or I'm just plain confused about what's best for me in that sea of items).

i - I tend to type normally unless I'm trying to make it clear I'm expressing sarcasm, which then I use heavy chat speak.

ii - I have no problem downloading a extra program if it's what you prefer.

iii - I live in the East Coast of the US, but I'm able to adjust to whatever times you prefer.

iv - I know how to take a joke, and I have a fairly strong sarcasm radar.

v - Annoys the hell out of me to.



I mainly want to learn to enjoy this game to the fullest, I enjoyed the hell out of DotA when I was playing 2vs2 or 3vs3 with friends who were all on the same skill level. Plus being told that I'm horrible, and often end up leading my team to lose(well maybe not actually leading them to lose, but I feel like I am) just isn't fun.



I do have a mic, though not sure how well it works since I don't use it as often as I should.

ive had HoN for like... 4-5 weeks? played about 120 games and im still horrible at almost everything, i can often guess what items to get for a certain hero but more often than not i suck at the hero anyway (get ganked alot etc :<)

I don't mind teaching people myself, but it's REALLY hard to do in pubs and I'd rather go about it with one trainee and perhaps two to three other trainers.

Really, I'd love to play with people who just *know* more than I do and are willing to share. For the most part I'm that guy on the teams I play with, but I know there's still a lot more I could learn.

Getting to play with Idejder and bark about bugs I want to see fixed [IDEJDER THE ANCIENT CREEPS ON LEGION'S SIDE OF DARKWOOD VALE DON'T SPAWN] would be neat, but really I just like hearing new ideas.

I'm more inclined to teach the newer/worse players than the better ones, as teaching tryhard tactics isn't exactly fun to do (i hate high level competitive play rofl) so yeah. this will help me organize everyone and keep track easier than memory. would be lovely if people would PM me their contact info though, so I can get in touch with you :l

I'm reasonably good at hon atm methinks, KD is averaging at 1.5-1.6, and I'm not a killstealer.

I'd love some training specific to certain heroes, specifically nymphora and Maliken. I just can't seem to recover form a bad farm with nymphora, and my early game with Maliken is pretty screwed. most of my other heroes seem reasonably sound strat wise.

im not new to dota nor hon but i just play with friends, in dota we played like 2v2 or 3v3 and picked random carry heroes flamed each other and left the game. now in hon we do like the same but we are around 7~ppl who do 5v5 vs. randoms, and yeah we still lose most of the time, we use vent vs random teams but yeah some of us feed then like crazy and we all get pissed and stop playing we really want to become better and maybe play 5v5 often but on a better level not some random pub stomper group.

soooo... i would really like to play with you or maybe you vs. us? so we can learn by doing, we never use wards or pull creeps away to spawn new ones etc. all we do is kill/deny kill heroes gank or get ganked/killed and most of the time i die and feed like crazy (0,6:1.0 K:D) i know all heroes and skills but i dont really know what im doing wrong.

i guess im to aggresivly playin if someone goes low i go like a beast after him to PWN SUM FACE YA but most of the time i get killed and yea sucks :D

my chance to play with/against high-level players is not gonna happen im stuck since i got into beta at 1600-1700max. and i dont know good playing ppl so i play only public

Also, are you able to teach an "old" dog new tricks? I have played dota for a while, and hon too now. I consider myself a mediocre player, and it seems to me that I can't breach the barrier in front of me into the 1700 (before rescale) psr ratings on my own.

im not new to dota nor hon but i just play with friends, in dota we played like 2v2 or 3v3 and picked random carry heroes flamed each other and left the game. now in hon we do like the same but we are around 7~ppl who do 5v5 vs. randoms, and yeah we still lose most of the time, we use vent vs random teams but yeah some of us feed then like crazy and we all get pissed and stop playing we really want to become better and maybe play 5v5 often but on a better level not some random pub stomper group.

soooo... i would really like to play with you or maybe you vs. us? so we can learn by doing, we never use wards or pull creeps away to spawn new ones etc. all we do is kill/deny kill heroes gank or get ganked/killed and most of the time i die and feed like crazy (0,6:1.0 K:D) i know all heroes and skills but i dont really know what im doing wrong.

i guess im to aggresivly playin if someone goes low i go like a beast after him to PWN SUM FACE YA but most of the time i get killed and yea sucks :D

my chance to play with/against high-level players is not gonna happen im stuck since i got into beta at 1600-1700max. and i dont know good playing ppl so i play only public

Currently I'm pretty busy. I had gotten a few new people in my social life, one important person included, and all the holidays were about and approaching, so I haven't done much HoN at all, let alone teaching. Still, I played a lot of games with a lot of people, and hope I at least helped a few people enough to make a difference. It'll be another week or two before I start training again (I just got TF2, I want to play it!), and I have a backlog of like a gajillion people to train too, so sorry everyone who's waited or thought they were ignored! <3
